  1. I'm a pretty serious dad about coaching my boy, and it's select baseball...so we're trying to win. But the most important thing he's going to take from sports is handling adversity. How in the hell am I supposed to guide him through that if I'm making excuses and protesting when he gets bet or bitching about balls and strike calls if a kid fans him (which happens all the time...dads are insane about this)?
  2. I liked Waterstreet that was in the building that's now been Sam's Boat for a decade plus. That part of town had no options like it then. You could do a decent piece of fresh fish and a wedge salad for like 8 bucks, and it was close to my office. Still is actually but different office/company.
  3. Didn't even know it was closed, haven't been in forever. That was the site of my first date with the wife, circa 2001.
  4. Good thing they caught him. This guy screams weirdo going on a killing spree.
  5. It's Central Texas and Kansas City for me, though I'm only in KC a couple times a year, so I stay pretty tightly focused on the best places when I'm there. Other than obvious differences in brisket prep, the best Texas and KC places are more similar than different. The depth of really good (if unspectacular) joints that Central Texas has developed over the last 5-10 years is staggering.
  6. This is pretty much where I'm at. Fold, because I don't see enough paths to victory, mathematically or by gut.
  7. Had lunch there yesterday, wife picked it as a "something we don't normally do" for Mother's Day. The food was predictably pretty terrible (combo fajitas), and the service was even worse. 15 minutes before greeting, queso/guac showed up but we didn't have chips, yet. Took 5 more minutes (and two employees) to solve that. Food took about 30 minutes. I don't know if they didn't know it was Mother's Day or if they're just even more terrible than before. I'm glad I only go about once a year.
  8. I think it will land on "about the same". There are lots of hands in the cookie jar for widespread sports gambling...leagues want compensation, governments want their piece, and ultimately those hands are powerful enough to get it done. All in all, if I'm betting legally in Texas but paying a worse price due to all the mouths to feed, I'm going offshore or through a bookie, anyway.
  9. Austin's traffic is legitimately worse than cities of similar population due to the lack of freeways/lanes. If I need to get downtown from 183/Mopac, the fact that my default would be something like Burnet -> 45th -> Lamar instead of the two N/S thoroughfares doesn't really have an equivalent in places like Indianapolis, San Jose, Cincinnati, Kansas City, etc. Houston is a different beast just due to population.
  10. Sub steak, two packets of fire —> legit taco.
  11. It takes a little while to get a feel for when/how much to close the vents, but once you've got the hang of it...they're incredibly stable.
  12. Except he really didn’t. Once you understand that, you’ll understand why you’re getting laughed at. It was a stupid play, but it had literally no mathematical effect on the table unless you know the cards in advance. And if you know that, I’ll stake you for your next baller hundred and we can go in halvsies on our own Caribbean island.
  13. Five mutuals, and a kinda weird cross-section.
  14. An assembly line burrito place that has good queso and salsa, which helps down out the terrible burrito. But they can't stay open in Austin, locations at Parmer/35 (years ago) and out in Cedar Park (recently) both closed fast.
  15. I like ballers that buy in for $100 and bully people at the table that have no effect on their odds. Just the best.
  16. I've been lazy and cooking on gas lately, I think tonight's a good night to fire up the BGE.
  17. On ceramic, no lighter fluid, no briquettes, don't get it super hot for the first couple of cooks, and don't have your face nearby when you open the dome. You'll get used to it very fast.
  18. I don't have any firsthand experience, but in this position I would call Bernard Watch, ask if they repair Omegas, then when they certainly say no...ask for a referral.
  19. Limits are $250.
  20. Under Kansas for as much as you can stand. The wildly optimistic view would get them to 3. Having that be a push, and needing 4-8 to lose, is Mayweather/McGregor easy but sadly with lower limits.
  21. Not for $17 an hour you haven’t. That’s a bad lunch shift at Applebee’s. i hired a bartender for a Christmas party roughly that size. $150 for 5 hours and guests also tipped.
  22. Out of market NFL team has me by the balls.
  23. I happened to be looking at my roster as the dong that Salvador Perez just hit posted. Niiiiiice.
  24. I went back and forth and landed on the smaller Pro. When I'm split screen, I wish it was bigger...when I'm just reading forums or news, I like the size. If I can't even decide which one I prefer, I can imagine personal preferences vary wildly.
