  1. Way late to this (waffle) party like a lot of shows. The wife and I finished Season 1 last night, and holy shit this is a great show. I know it borrows from other stories with plot devices like parallel alternate realities, but it's so unique. As some folks mentioned, the set design makes it difficult to pin down the time period of the show. Lumen is using some advanced technology, but the computers, cars, furniture, and other set items make it look like something from 1970s Canada. And there's a touch of dysphoria throughout. And the acting of the innies and other Lumen employees is fantastic. All four characters of the MDR Department are all so compelling. And Trammell Tillman steals the show. He plays Mr. Milichick brilliantly, with always a touch of sinister below the surface. On to Season 2.
  2. So does my firm need to cancel the Ramandan noon waffle party?
  3. I totally get it. It's very much like a white person using the n-word even as satire or humor. David Chapelle can say it all he wants, but South Austin isn't going there.
  4. Goddammit, Brisket, get with the program.
  5. I'll be 70 and too old to move out of the U.S. I just hope the food is decent at my re-education camp.
  6. Oh, please. It's not like putting beans in chili.
  7. Bought Road to Ensenada shortly after it came out when I heard a couple songs on KGSR that I liked. That was in my first few years as a Texan. Great fucking album.
  8. I'm not sure if that was his intention. But during the fallout of his embarrassing meeting with Zelensky, I've been hearing reports of other European countries banding together with commitments to increase their aid to Ukraine. I'm sure it's a matter of time before Trump claims credit for that and tells us it was all part of his master plan.
  9. You don't know that. For all you know he could be sending his resume to a California strawberry farmer as we speak.
  10. And he died in 1995 at only age 45. Yeah, you can figure it out.
  11. I know, I know. But he's proud of his state. You know, that's damn rare thing these days?
  12. We should have been at war with Europe. They were God awful, and I can't believe decades later I still have to hear Final Countdown at sporting events. Fuck Europe.
  13. I grew up in Virginia and North Carolina, two original colonies with some badass histories. Compared to Texas, the residents of those states seem to have very little state pride, and they express no real identity in being "Virginians" or "North Carolinians." So when I moved to Texas in 1994, I actually was impressed with the amount of pride and identity in being a Texan. I was enamored with Texas history and what still seemed like a sense of frontier independence. I'm not sure if back then or even today you could call me a "Texan" (my wife born and raised in Austin tells me I can't truly claim that title), but for about my first decade living here, I was damn proud to claim this state as my home, even as the Democratic strength and influence in Texas politics was evaporating. Now? Now Texas is just another red state. Passing all the red state laws, sometimes trying to lead, mostly desperately following. And there is little to nothing recognizably Texan in our State's leadership (Danny Goeb, I'm taking to you). I haven't felt pride in being a Texan in quite some time. So you go on and celebrate Texas Independence Day, sonny, and stop wasting my time. Because to tell you the truth,
