  1. Don't be so Dbhard on yourself.
  2. My daughter considered Reed as part of her private school applications. As she and I researched it more, it seemed like the Rice of the PNW -- a lot of really smart kids, but a pretty lame social environment. She applied to L&C and got some generous scholarship money, but wanted to go to a bigger state school with robust athletics. I have a good client who went to L&C, and while he really liked it, he said that area of Oregon gets much worse rain than other parts of the state. (See below). My daughter is a rising sophomore at Oregon, and absolutely loves it. I thought a Texas girl who loves the sun would have a tough adjustment, but she said the weather was okay. The rain was mostly a constant drizzle such that students don't even bother carrying an umbrella, and instead rely on waterproof jackets and backpacks. And maybe this year was a little different, but she got a fair amount of sunny days in the middle of the rainy season. I was actually surprised to get from her so many photos in the Fall and Winter that showed sunny blue skies.
  3. Yes, indeed. He was the only reason my parents ever bought Lone Star.
  4. I got to spend a lot of time with Gunny Ski when I visited my parents in Harlingen on breaks from college. I loved that guy. So did my dad.
  5. My dad was on staff there that same time. He served in Vietnam as a young infantry officer fresh out of college. Rarely talked to me about it, and when he did, it was mostly logistical/historical, and never really personal. I remember when I was a young and stupid kid, I asked him, "Dad, did you kill anyone in Vietnam?" He didn't answer. I've always felt bad about asking him that question. I know from my mom that on a couple occasions when he opened up to her about what he experienced, he was crying.
  6. Have you been to Andiamo or Reale's? They're closer to my hood and way out of your way. I've actually never been to either yet, but I keep hearing that they're legitimately good and affordable Italian in a more homey setting than something like a Vespaio or Red Ash.
  7. I'm tempted to drive 2.5 hours to see you get your ass kicked by somebody's grandpa.
  8. Nice to see all the support for Arkansas. My stepdaughter is only a sophomore, but Arkansas seems to be at the top of her list right now, and we have close friends who just moved their daughter into her freshman dorm. I'll be very happy if that's where she ends up.
  9. I really can't blame the Democrats for coming back to Texas. I mean, it's almost football season.
  10. I respect Zelensky for holding it together at that moment.
  11. He’s probably a dentist!
  12. Among other points about Traylor, I was responding to this notion that he would be considered by Texas at some future point. And my response is, if it’s true he was on a list in 2020, this Texas program is well past that point. Whether you share that take or are ascribing it to the wisdom of other Surlies, I strenuously object.
  13. What if someone tries to rob me while I’m cleaning my gun, smart guy?
  14. Texas in 2020 coming off of Tom Herman and Charlie Strong is so much different than what Texas is now with Steve Sarkisian, so it wouldn’t surprise me if Jeff Traylor was somewhere on somebody’s list at the time, though I’ve seen nothing to indicate that was more than fan fiction. Also, the NIL/transfer portal landscape of college football today is a different beast, and a coach at a place like UTSA does not have the fluency of that environment like a head coach or coordinator at a strong P5 program. If Sark does leave for the NFL, it’s because Texas is performing miles above the mess it had been in when we were on our last head coaching search. I seriously doubt Texas will hire a coach from a program like UTSA to replace Sark. It’s nice what Traylor has done there, and if he’s going to keep his Texas dream alive, that’s really great, much like Katie Ledecky is holding out for closetojumping. But I think Texas is way past Jeff Traylor. My mind could be changed if he gets UTSA into the playoffs on more than one occasion. But until that might happen, Taylor and his fanboys should more realistically set their expectations. My grip is fine, good sir. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
  15. I’m sure it was discussed on Surly, but that doesn’t make it a reality or a remote possibility. Texas isn’t going from Steve Sarkisian to Jeff Traylor. Get a grip.
  16. Why on earth would Taylor be waiting for the Texas job to open?
  17. Hey @closetojumping, if Katie Ledecky doesn’t do it for you, how about this?
  18. With any luck, Ben Arbuckle’s got the grail already.
  19. I recalled that Barron played man on him for much of the game. However, I was also nonsober for much of the second half.
  20. Yeah. He’s done some badass stuff in his life, but Man v. Wild had some exaggerated theatrics, and he caught shit for staying in hotels at some locations.
  21. Why less focused? It’s the Swamp. And Texas will be coming off three lackluster non conference matchups and eagerly anticipating the SEC opener. I’m not worried about the team’s focus.
