  1. Maybe I have a recency bias because of our frustrations with Quinn as of late, but I'm making a distinction between a better overall passer (Sam) and a better arm (Quinn). Yeah, when Quinn is "on," he makes some throws we never saw from Sam. But I think when comparing their college careers at this point, Sam proved to be a more reliable passer than Quinn has. And whether you disagree with my better overall passer assessment, the sum of my opinion was that Sam is our best QB since Colt, responding to TreatyOak's specific statement, which includes passing, pocket presence, leadership, durability, running ability, etc.
  2. I like Quinn, and don't doubt your impressions of him as a person. And having met you in person, you're in damn good shape for 65, and am actually surprised at that age. But, I think Sam Ehlinger has been our best QB since Colt. Yes, Quinn has him on a conference title. But Quinn has better talent and coaching around him than Sam ever had, by a mile. And I think Sam is a better overall passer, more of a dual threat with a much better pocket presence, and showed a bit more fire and mental toughness than Quinn. I'm not bashing Quinn at all. I'm rooting my ass for him these next two games (and hopefully beyond this season). Just responding to your first assertion.
  3. I figured, but thought I'd ask, since I didn't want to assume anything about The Pearl on the chance it was Domain-ish. Will book at Hotel Emma. What's good to eat around there?
  4. Would be nice if for one Saturday this season Auburn was not a complete piece of shit.
  5. Yeah, COVID is still around, but it hasn't been a big deal for quite a while, so why do you think something changes in January that will cause more cops on the roads to write tickets? I still hear how APD is understaffed, so I don't think an increase in cops is what will change the level of traffic patrol.
  6. Side note: I lived in Raleigh for two years, and grew up half of my childhood on the NC coast. Was in Wake Forest for the first time ever in 2015 for a client trip, and really loved the town. Seems like it could be in consideration for the retirement destination list, but by that time it's probably going to be too crowded.
  7. I'm in San Antonio a lot for work, but not R&R. I'm thinking about taking my wife to San Antonio for a weekend in January to celebrate her birthday. Where's the best place to camp out for a couple days, with restaurants and bars in walking distance? The Pearl? Downtown? La Cantera? Sorry if this topic is covered earlier in the thread, but too lazy to scroll through the last 50 pages.
  8. Sorry to miss the last home tailgate, but . . . .
  9. Outstanding. Possible stupid question: Is the meat on the grill lamb? It looks like some sort of bone-in lamb, but too small to be a full leg.
  10. Yeah, the ego boost of looking in shape is a great narcotic. Do it for other reasons, but that's a nice benefit as well.
  11. Hangovers are probably the reason I keep my drinking in check. Probably a good thing for me that a legitimate hangover cure hasn't been invented. When do you exercise? I've read that exercise later in the day might affect when your body is able to shut down for the evening, but others can speak more intelligently on that. And do you take any sleep supplements other than melatonin? As mentioned on this and other threads, magnesium and l-theanine might also help with sleep.
  12. Get back to lifting, @troph. I tell people that when I started lifting again around 40 I felt like a completely different person. More in shape, better endurance, less aches, better sleep, and more regular bowel movements (yes, regular shitting is so much better). And I'll admit, there's also some vanity at play, to quote Lester Burnham.
  13. I'm old and fatalistic enough right now that when I read Texas is scheduled to play [insert team] in 20___, I think, "I wonder if I'll be alive then."
  14. He's the biggest piece of shit head coach right now, and I don't know why people are debating that other than it's what Surly does. I take pleasure that he moved his family to that shithole Baton Rouge just to be fired in a short period of time.
  15. My internal medicine doc said something similar about glucosamine, and said I'd be better off saving my money. Since dropping it, I haven't noticed any more joint pain. In fact, my joint pain is considerably less, but I think that's because I've incorporated a lot more serious stretching and more balancing exercises in my lower body routine. The doc didn't say whether he thought creatine was good or bad, but my creatine levels were in the high range, so he told me to get off of it. He wasn't alarmist, but told me unequivocally to stop taking it, so I did. I've been off over a year and a half, my creatine levels are back in the normal range, and haven't noticed any change in my workouts or recovery. Like you alluded, I'm not trying to get yuge, and for the most part I lift in the 8-12 rep range to failure, so maybe creatine wasn't all that helpful for me. I do think that when I got back to lifting 10 years ago creatine helped me add on quite a bit of lean muscle in that first 8-10 week period, but that could have been all in my head.
  16. My job (real lawyer, not just Surly lawyer) is also fairly sedentary. Unless I'm in court or at a site inspection, most of my working day is at a desk, or sitting a conference room in a deposition. That's pretty much been my day job since 1999. I've also read a recent article saying that standing desks aren't as beneficial as advertised, and that some movement every half hour or so is preferable. For the last few years I've tried to make it a point 2-3 times a day to walk briskly around the perimeter of my floor. And since I read about the 10-Minute Walk, after lunch I walk around my block downtown for 10 minutes, work and weather permitting. And I also do a 10-minute walk right after dinner, which helps make up for the time sitting on my ass at the office. That on top of my early morning workout routine. But still, sitting at my desk for most of the day is not great.
  17. She grows on you. I really liked her in the novella If It Bleeds.
  18. That's a really good one. I thoroughly enjoyed the Mercedes trilogy.
  19. My wife has been a People's VIP for quite some time. And I think she recently added DHEA. I took it for a couple years but I read some articles about some possible not-so-great side effects for men so I ditched it. Haven't noticed any adverse effects since cutting it out.
  20. My impression of the aggy demographic right now is that it's heavily weighted with Elon Musk fanboys.
