  1. Outstanding. Possible stupid question: Is the meat on the grill lamb? It looks like some sort of bone-in lamb, but too small to be a full leg.
  2. Yeah, the ego boost of looking in shape is a great narcotic. Do it for other reasons, but that's a nice benefit as well.
  3. Hangovers are probably the reason I keep my drinking in check. Probably a good thing for me that a legitimate hangover cure hasn't been invented. When do you exercise? I've read that exercise later in the day might affect when your body is able to shut down for the evening, but others can speak more intelligently on that. And do you take any sleep supplements other than melatonin? As mentioned on this and other threads, magnesium and l-theanine might also help with sleep.
  4. Get back to lifting, @troph. I tell people that when I started lifting again around 40 I felt like a completely different person. More in shape, better endurance, less aches, better sleep, and more regular bowel movements (yes, regular shitting is so much better). And I'll admit, there's also some vanity at play, to quote Lester Burnham.
  5. I'm old and fatalistic enough right now that when I read Texas is scheduled to play [insert team] in 20___, I think, "I wonder if I'll be alive then."
  6. He's the biggest piece of shit head coach right now, and I don't know why people are debating that other than it's what Surly does. I take pleasure that he moved his family to that shithole Baton Rouge just to be fired in a short period of time.
  7. My internal medicine doc said something similar about glucosamine, and said I'd be better off saving my money. Since dropping it, I haven't noticed any more joint pain. In fact, my joint pain is considerably less, but I think that's because I've incorporated a lot more serious stretching and more balancing exercises in my lower body routine. The doc didn't say whether he thought creatine was good or bad, but my creatine levels were in the high range, so he told me to get off of it. He wasn't alarmist, but told me unequivocally to stop taking it, so I did. I've been off over a year and a half, my creatine levels are back in the normal range, and haven't noticed any change in my workouts or recovery. Like you alluded, I'm not trying to get yuge, and for the most part I lift in the 8-12 rep range to failure, so maybe creatine wasn't all that helpful for me. I do think that when I got back to lifting 10 years ago creatine helped me add on quite a bit of lean muscle in that first 8-10 week period, but that could have been all in my head.
  8. My job (real lawyer, not just Surly lawyer) is also fairly sedentary. Unless I'm in court or at a site inspection, most of my working day is at a desk, or sitting a conference room in a deposition. That's pretty much been my day job since 1999. I've also read a recent article saying that standing desks aren't as beneficial as advertised, and that some movement every half hour or so is preferable. For the last few years I've tried to make it a point 2-3 times a day to walk briskly around the perimeter of my floor. And since I read about the 10-Minute Walk, after lunch I walk around my block downtown for 10 minutes, work and weather permitting. And I also do a 10-minute walk right after dinner, which helps make up for the time sitting on my ass at the office. That on top of my early morning workout routine. But still, sitting at my desk for most of the day is not great.
  9. She grows on you. I really liked her in the novella If It Bleeds.
  10. That's a really good one. I thoroughly enjoyed the Mercedes trilogy.
  11. My wife has been a People's VIP for quite some time. And I think she recently added DHEA. I took it for a couple years but I read some articles about some possible not-so-great side effects for men so I ditched it. Haven't noticed any adverse effects since cutting it out.
  12. My impression of the aggy demographic right now is that it's heavily weighted with Elon Musk fanboys.
  13. One point deduction for non-paper plate, but condiments slap hard. 9/10
  14. Husband of perimenopausal wife reporting for duty. As reported in the Longevity thread, my wife hit perimenopause almost to years ago seemingly at the exact moment she durned 50. She's always had a tough time sleeping since the hormonal change from having kids, but now the sleep trouble is turned up to 11. I guess it's good that she's used to little sleep for the past 10 years or so because she's used to powering through and it's not affecting her emotionally. Her other main symptom right now is weight gain. She works out a ton -- lots of walking but also a good weight training routine -- and for the most part maintains a healthy diet of high protein and fiber, healthy carbs, low sugars and processed foods, and lots of greens. And she takes all of the supplements. But she's still put on some weigh in her belly area. Not a ton, but definitely noticeable and way more than she's ever had and is comfortable with. The hard part for me right now is constantly hearing her say how "fat" she is. I use the term in quotes because she's not fat or obese, certainly not by my standards and most clinical ones. But on a daily basis I hear her complain that she's fat, that her clothes don't fit, that none of the dietary adjustments are working, that she won't be able to find any dress for our next formal event, etc. I try to respond by saying that she looks great, I find her body wildly attractive, she'll definitely find a beautiful dress she looks great in, etc. But she just blows all that off. I should be used to all that by now and not take it so hard, but it's sort of starting to weigh me down. I know that it absolutely shouldn't, and I just need to keep reassuring her that I love her body even if I get nothing in response. For now, the weight gain and her body image hasn't affected her sex drive, which is still vibrant, and her mood swings are slight and infrequent. I need to keep telling myself to practice empathy and patience, and continue telling her how much I love her and am attracted to her, and how this is our life together for the next several years. Edit: And odd that this thread is in Lulz, and not Help.
  15. I'd rather watch a sporting event in Fallujah.
  16. I didn’t know there is a menopause thread. Which forum? I can’t find it with the search function.
  17. Oh hell yeah on stretching. I find that I have less injuries or discomfort over the last few years as I've taken stretching more seriously. That, and I don't go for heavy volume and low reps anymore. I focus on form around the 10-rep range.
  18. I think one of two things will happen: (1) Sark has a meeting with both of them and tells them that there is open competition for the QB position in spring ball; or (2) Sark tells Quinn bluntly that the QB job next season is Arch's and that if Quinn wants to stay in college for his final year of eligibility he should transfer.
  19. Proof? This is the internet, boy.
  20. Who else deserves the credit? The recently-added Nansen and Baker? Gideon and Joseph for figuring shit out in the secondary? The overall recruiting staff for helping build talent and depth? I don't know the answer, just asking.
  21. I don't have any personal affinity for PK, but it's nice to see what he's done in contrast to the defensive coordinators our last two head coaches hired their first years. Vance Bedford and Todd Orlando had pretty solid first years, but then regressed horribly. PK's tenure here started shaky, and now he's developed a dominant defense.
  22. Texas could win the national championship, and he'd still have aggy ranked higher, talking about how the Longhorns lucked out against a watered-down playoff field while aggy dominated all phases in a December 28 bowl win against Duke.
