  1. Man of all the strange things that can happen. I was waking to my stand Sunday evening and had a mesquite thorn go all the way through my boots and puncture my foot. It's been 3 days and that sucker is still swollen up like a football. I want to hunt this cold front next week and hope it heals by then. TLDR; I hate mesquites
  2. Picked up my first thermal monocular lens on prime day; AGM15-256 I believe. It’s a lower level model but excited to use it looking for hogs at night but mostly to use walking into bow stands at dark and making sure I don’t bump anything. Seems like it might be useful finding dead game in thick cover too
  3. It’s already been mentioned but the radiator needs to be done to avoid the dreaded pink milkshake. Also, the lower ball joints probably need replacement as those were a weak point. Great trucks; I’ve got a 02 with 255k on it
  4. Thanks Cruiser. The nightstand gun is just a bare bones Ruger SR9. I've never run an optic on a pistol before so any thoughts on that are greatly appreciated. The majority of my shooting is at the deer lease but I'm in DFW so I just need a find a place around here to try out some of the guns.
  5. Appreciate the responses; I need to shoot some rounds through all of them and see how they feel.
  6. Need the surly thoughts on a new EDC. My brother just bought a Canik mete MC9 and that's nice little pistol for the price especially with that trigger. I'm currently in between going with the Canik and a Holosun optic or looking at the myriad of the Sig 365 options. I handled the XMacro yesterday and really liked that but the price point is significantly higher. Is this a buy once cry once or are there any options I should be looking at?
  7. 38 degrees with a light north wind is pretty hard to beat. I had a small 2.5 year old 8; 5 does and 8 turkeys. Also, had a hog at 55 yards but that’s out of my range. Most of the time we have a group but sometimes it’s enjoyable just being solo; can’t wait to get out to the country again
  8. That’s awesome; my back hurts just thinking about quartering that out
  9. Shot and handled a bunch of different bows and ended up taking home a Matthew’s phase 4; put a QAD fall away rest and a black gold 3 pin sight. I’ll mostly be hunting tree stands and appreciate the advice. Excited to get a lot closer and hone my hunting skills. I definitely want to hunt the West before I get too old but right now just trying to narrow down my arrows and broadheads (fixed vs mechanical etc)
  10. I jumped into the bow hunting game this year so excited to get out in October and see if I can get a big one on the ground before general rifle season starts. Bow hunting is like fly fishing; there is so much information out there it's almost overwhelming.
  11. SDG, I went with OME shocks and the Bilstein 5100’s and have been happy. This fixed the rear sag issue. I see you don’t want a lift but would like it leveled. A good option for that would be to replace with 99 4Runner highlander springs. This is an original part but they are actually an 1” taller. I’ll drop a link below that will save a lot of time and include part numbers for suspension etc. http://www.toyota-4runner.org/3rd-gen-t4rs/66976-3rd-gen-4runner-lift-information-faqs.html
  12. Costco had a Rebecca creek double barrel store pick that I was told was MGP; does anyone know if that is true? Also, bought a 14 year old tincup that is MGP; excited to try even if it’s only 84 proof
  13. Did anyone else seem abnormally low deer numbers this year? I've hunted the same place in Jack County for the last 17 years and don't know if I've ever seen as few as deer as we saw this year. It might be due to the freeze or lack of rain but we didn't seen any mature deer (doe or buck) this year and we typically have at least have a couple 4.5 year old deer. I talked to a large processor in DFW and they said they were down almost 40% in the amount of deer brought in this year. They thought the freeze and low fawn survival rates were the culprit.
