  1. Great experience.  Got to town on gameday (sheesh, I cant get days straight this week) about 1.  Checked in to room at Marriott Warehouse district.  Quick shower, had a buddy flying in from ATL, met at Cochon Butcher for a bite, couple beers.  Went to the corner dive bar down from CB and had another beer and started getting our plan.  Uber to Saddlebar for a beer with a couple buddies.  All 4 of us walked to RItz lobby bar, outstanding idea for many reasons (ill let you figure it out).  Met up with 15-20 guys and pounded sliders, drinks flowing watched Rose Bowl kickoff ....their TV kept losing signal for some reason.  Left there and went to Walkons.  Line was out the ass, went around the side entrance slipped the dude manning the exit, $20, me and my buddy walked in and found some of our crew that had left the RItz.  The beers were huge, 18oz i believe.  Had one or two plus a shot, place was packed.

Walked to the dome, saw kickoff, line getting in was long, but it moved.  Section 277 Row 1 , outstanding seats, leg rest , put our jackets on the rail, beers too until a cop showed up , no shit NOPD, and told us no beers on the ledge.  Probably had 2-3 large beers, got the last miller lite in my area about 3rd quarter or so.  Overall, great experience, walked back to Marriott , about 25 minute walk, got a beer at the bar, bed by 2:00.

  2. Just wrapping up 3 ski days in Breck.  Overall, I must say conditions were not as bad as I was expecting.  They opened up the T-bar while we were there, though Imperial SuperChair is still down.  Peaks 9 &10 had much better snow imo.  The conditions resembled more of a spring skiing feel vs late December.  Full sun, no clouds, highs in the 30's, no wind.  Cold in the shade, but we were unzipping in the lift lines to cool down.  Crowds were not bad at all, lift lines were very manageable.  We started each morning about 9-9:30 at Beaver Run and never had to wait in line , just clicked in,  got the pass scanned and we were off.  We ventured over to Peak 8 base a couple times and those lifts there had the longest lines, but nothing crazy.

We were able to get tables all 3 days for lunch with out much trouble ; ran in to several Texas fans/grads.  Overall great trip.  Had a ski in condo off Lowest 4 O'clock, which was nice.  Walked to town each night for nightlife, shopping, dinner.  Mainstreet Breck is perfect for our group (4 teens and Ms Jdhorn and I)

Open Snow is saying nothing until Christmas Eve.  4" on the 24th, 1" on the 25th and then back to nothing for the remaining 10 days.  Not great, Bob.

Yeah I saw that on TWC this morning.  Looks my kids will get to experience skiing on ice for the first time.  Spring skiing in CO in my youth is all i ever experienced.  The last several years in UT we have seen the best snow conditions; double edge sword I guess, in that driving from Denver should be no issue, but not ideal on mountain conditions other than the weather being warmer.  Still will be fun.

I just checked again and Hertz doesn't have any SUVs available and this is what Budget wants to charge for a week:

    what city/airport?

edit: nm, see it now. Gunnison to CB.

One of the first things i do when planning any trip or even start thinking about a trip is grab a car; i may hold 6 car reservations just to lock in a ride, but i have 3 teen daughters and wifey (sorry no picks assholes)

  5. Now you guys got me nervous.  Renting in Denver and driving to Breck Dec 27-31.  Getting the car from National, Ill check and see if they offer a snow package (ie chains or an alternative).  Rented in SLC for Park City the last 5 years and it never even came up as its interstate the whole way .  Last year in Feb it dumped the whole time we were there, but the roads were plenty clear and we had a 4X4 burban,   never was an issue for the short drive.

Denver to Breck over that pass will be 2x as long.  Need to look into that, though with the projected weather, may be a moot point.

edit: checked my reservation, we have mid-size AWD SUV; $317 with a couple free day awards used

  6. Like many of you, I have owned a dozen of boots at least since my late teens, 53 now.  Red Wings for my college days and early 20's decade. Served me well for many years.  Kept mink oil on them repeatedly and I still have one pair since 1992 that I mow the yard in, occasionally, though my feet feel it after.  Wore Justin Ropers as my "nice" boot for many years.  Bought 2 pairs of Luccheses , a soft skin (cant recall which), caramel/distressed brown color Roper that I still wear and get compliments on periodically.  My second pair of Luccheses currently in rotation is a western style boot , round toe, well worn in and look like they just come off the Dutton ranch.  Love those boots, though they are looking a bit too worn; i call them my drinking boots.  I will say the strap broke a couple months ago, so getting them on, I have to wear a business sock, versus tube so they slide in

The most recent purchase is a pair of Tecovas from their shop in Frisco at Legacy, western style, suede.  Been getting a lot compliments on them;  they pair well with a dark khaki jean.  You have to be careful with Tecovas boots as the jean/pants cannot be too skinny, as the shaft is larger (no ghey) than any other boots ive owned.

Ill try and get some pictures uploaded.  Love all my boots, its about all i wear outside of work.

  7. What finally drove the RU out of Afghanistan?  That is what will ultimately doom their UKR efforts imo.    I dont have enough background knowledge of how that campaign ended.  From the looks of things and reading upthread about their manpower replenishment strategy, about the only way I see this ending anytime soon would be to look at Afghanistan.

But if he had beaten Colorado he would have been a legend anyway. The fact that Applewhite came off the bench and almost pulled it off and led that comeback against Washington certainly doesn't help. Granted maybe James Brown or Vince Young coming off the bench comes all the way back and beats Colorado, but just coming in and NOT being horrendous for a little over two quarters turned a 19 point deficit into a 2 point one.

We were Freshman Phil Geigar roughing the punter away from completing the comeback.  Major was poised for one last drive after we held them on 3rd down.  The young buck got too exuberant and it cost us.  He ended up being a fine player out of Evangel, but not to be that fateful night in Dallas.  I watched that game from Ricks on Bourbon st, the night of my bachelor party

  9. We had a younger-ish associate (mid 30’s) get fired a couple years ago for using a poor choice of words (racially charged) in a Facebook post.  It was a Fox News article that he left this particular comment on.

Some completely random person saw the comment (it was bad), copied it and  emailed it to our general email for the company.  I guess his employer was listed on the bio page and was able to research our company to the point of fining our general email.

Thankfully an admin person monitors the email and was able to delete it before it got out to the masses somehow. We fired him on the spo, which needed to happen. Not only did he show his true ethos, but had our/his clients seen the post before he deleted it,  would have been no bueno.

  10. Primary bedroom repalcing master bedroom is appropriate imo....I  prefer to use the term main bedroom....Mrs JDHorn (no pics) is a realtor.

The phrase "back of the bus" used  needs to be 86'ed , no need for that.

"Black and White procedures", Ive replaced with non-negotiables , in meetings recently.

Any time someone uses the term "jew them down", I cringe.  I come from the age when Mexicans were called 'beaners'.  I havent heard that in ages, so thats good.

  11. HAHAHAH If they hire the KSU OC that would be so on brand for the Aggies.  Hire the OC from the team known most for running the QB.  I guess he didnt watch last year vs Bama, running that old fashioned O in this modern game is not going to work.
