Tell me you're not from the South without telling me. There is a ton of stark differences from Ole Miss and UF. For one, Ole Miss attracts mainly rich out of state kids (who never come back to Ole Miss once they leave) and what upper socio-economic demo there is in the MS. UF is almost all instate kids and its a great academic school, not Texas great , but it's up there. Ole Miss is not on a par academically.
There is a reason there is a "Florida Man" meme. Florida other than Jacksonville and the panhandle is not the south. There are thousands of UF kids from Tampa, Orlando and south FL and those are much more aligned with a northeast mindset than a 'southern' mindset. Think more Jersey shore than Garden and Gun. Think more mom and dad moved here from Ohio than Southern Living / 30-a southern. The factory owner/exec retired to the east coast of Florida ( basically West Palm, Ft Lauderdale, Jupiter etc) and the factory worker retired to the west coast (basically Venice, Bradenton, Northport, Port Charlotte, Punta Gorda). These types spawned the UF demographic by and large. The panhandle of FL is Bama , FSU and Auburn country. Jax is UGA country. IMO FL is not the traditional south. Florida is Florida, much like Texas is Texas. If you have never lived in LA, MS, AL, GA, South Carolina, TN, then you think Texas is southern and most likely FL too.
Ole Miss is prim and proper, the Grove, deep souther ties and roots , very little infiltration of anything other than redshirting Ms Amercias.
