  1. Such badass pics, thanks for sharing. I took the boat up as close to the dam as possible in July '13 when we were near the all-time low lake level of 620'. To see the dam tower above the water 100' is pretty damn (hehe) impressive and ominous. But these two pics are much, much more frightening.
  2. I always get a kick out of Smithville hitching their name to a 21-yr old movie which scored <25% on Rotten Tomatoes and very few people have admittedly ever seen.
  3. Far from it. I believe the record is almost 50’ in a 24hr period. Regarding the rainfall, it just takes the right amount of rain to fall in the right places. Twelve inches in 48-72 hours in the L.T. basin and City of Austin (not unlike two years ago,) and the lake barely moves. But you get that same rain only a few miles north and west and it’s historic increases. Holy moly: the latest from LCRA is projecting 705’-710’. That’s incredible.
  4. The difference of water on Lake Travis beteen 665’ and 685’ is VASTLY different from 685’ to 705’. A lot more water is going to go into Travis over the next few days but unless something drastic happens, the elevation increase should begin to slow considerably due to the amount of “horizontal” acreage. Not all feet are created equal when it comes to Lake Travis and Mansfield Dam.
  5. Chikage is named after a Japanese ballet dancer. And no Nicole Harford, no care.
  6. Getting greater by the hour.
  7. Yep. The Highlands can do some crazy things. In large part, that’s what they’re designed for. Lake Travis once went up 40’ in 24 hours. Spencer doing his thing. He’s the best.
  8. What is happening here?
  9. The kid is fucking good.
  10. Man, going in thinking I would love this movie and left think it was just okay. Much more family/human-oriented and less “action” than Apollo 13 and The Right Stuff. Whoever said the music and cinematography feels like Interstellar is exactly right. Loved the Gemini and LEM landing though. The movie does a great job of showing the horrors of the early space missions. Janet Armstrong’s quote to Deke Slaton was very fitting.
  11. He appears to be inverted.
  12. King is on a real television and movie kick as of late.
  13. This is the reason the folks at LCRA are usually pretty even-keeled about lake levels. While everyone else seemingly proclaims “the lake will never be full again!” they know it just takes 1-2 freak rainstorms 100 miles away to completely change lake levels for the next 6-12 months. LT can go from 645’ to 670’ in a couple days.
  14. Baylor has amazing skill players but yes, the OL and DL is turrible. The safety play is the worst in the conference too. Brewer is a fantastic QB and awesome to watch play.
  15. No photoshop needed. My favorite APD mug from the olden days. Monica Vargas:
  16. I often think about our Sweet Prince.
  17. I think the results on the the court show as much...
  18. I finished S2 back in January and remember thinking that episode would be my last. Just too many things going on and with the exception of a few scenes, it was becoming painfully slow. If it wasn’t a scene involving Obergrubben Smith I found myself playing on my iPhone A part in of me would like to watch S3 but I’ll likely pass unless the reviews are overwhelmingly positive and it’s heads and shoulders better than last season. Interesting concept though.
  19. I hope both the individuals who wrongly accused your friend did serious time. But somehow I doubt they did.
  20. Great post and I hope it’s not one which gets buried in this thread. Thank you for your stories.
  21. I have no problem with her running but I wish these cowards would be honest for once https://www.nbcnews.com/meet-the-press/video/warren-i-am-not-running-for-president-1182655043765?v=raila&
  22. Over the years I’ve watched hours of the Tohoku footage from 2011. Such an incredible, devastating power of destruction.
  23. Fair enough. We certainly agree on #1 but I’d like if you could eleborate on 3. Number four sucks and I think having someone as political as BK should be a disqualification factor for a position which is supposed to be apolitical, but I don’t see how it has any bearing on whether he is guilty of the accused 36 years ago.
  24. Brief preface: I find everything about Trump and those he’s surrounded with disgusting people and a cancer to democracy. Yesterday, I watched 5-6 hrs of the hearing. By lunch I was more or less 100% in Ford’s camp. By the time BK was finished last night, I believed almost every word of his story. I think both are telling what they believe are the truth but I’m more inclined to side with BK due to lack of any real evidence or corroboration on Ford’s part (which sucks after 3.5 decades but is definitely part of the equation). His defensive demeanor was cute at first but grew tiresome. I’m not certain I love seeing a SPJ lose his temper so quickly, but *IF* the accusations are false, I understand his position. I would absolutely like to see and FBI though but unfortunately we’ll never see one.
  25. Wow. Kevin and Conan were great.
