  1. Runaways? I'm guessing the Hook Up bar at Los Suenos.
  2. He also got hurt in the fall (is there something in the water there?) with a thumb issue and could not participate in practice. 45 guys for 35 spots - with two senior catchers returning (which almost never happens)
  3. he's done a little more than just practice in the fall. He was on the 35 man roster all last year and went to Omaha. He basically caught every bullpen session for the team last year. Very good defensive catcher for sure.
  4. Saw them last year in Houston and it was a fantastic show. Would see them in Vegas if I happened to be there. Ya the price is high, but it would probably actually limit my gambling losses to go see a concert for a few hours. Yes I think they screwed Felder over and I think Frey was a asshole. But seeing Joe Walsh was awesome. 5. Same. Had a Mom in fall ball insist that her son would feel more a part of the team if he got to play first base. Background - at this point I've played the kid at every position in the field except 1b and SS. The kid was a total head case, who COULD NOT CATCH A BALL, but used some of the most colorful language I've ever heard in a dugout - he would've made Billy Martin blush. I brought it to the Mom's attention about the need to be able to catch and play first base......of course that leads to ten minutes of her complaining about what a terrible father her husband was and it wasn't her fault he couldn't catch. So.....I put the kid at 1b for an inning late in a game. Well the first play the ball is hit to my SS (who by the way is left handed and has a rocket for an arm....maybe best arm in the league). Well I see it all in slow motion....the kid at first base is watching the runner come to first and not looking for the throw, rocket armed SS unleashes a strike which misses 1b head by no more that a few inches. I look over at the Mom in the stands who gives me the universal hand gesture for "get him of off first!". Sigh.
  6. this x1000. Fundamentals, fundamentals, fundamentals. Every regular season and all star team I ever coached we spent the first part of practice hitting loads of grounders and fly balls. I always told the players before every game to just make the play in front of them - field the grounder and make the throw, catch the routine fly ball and hit the cut off man. It's great if you make a miraculous play, but the team that makes more of the routine plays usually wins this game. also practice plans should involve as many stations as you can manage - especially when they are young. No more than two kids at a station - lots of reps. Little kids will start chasing butterflies if not engaged.
  7. Ha! Turner's a good kid from a Texas baseball family. He knows how the business works.
  8. when he barfed on the stripper...."I'm sorry, I'm sorry"
  9. Turner Gauntt (C) called back to the team yesterday.
  10. Was there as well. It's top five all-time concert for me. Was a casual fan that saw the chance to see them live - to say I was floored by what I witnessed was an understatement. 11. His iconic album. Gone too soon.
  12. actually there were five, because the The Whistler was broken out at the end. Teelings small batch - came in last. Knappogue 12 and 16. - 16 was preferred, but neither had much complexity. We also tasted a bottle of The Exclusive Malts which was fantastic.
  13. Had an Irish tasting a few weeks back. This was the overall winner of the four bottles tasted. As mentioned earlier, Green and Yellow Spot are also awesome (and were not on the menu for the tasting as we were going for brands not as recognizable). The Whistler 10 year also fared well in the tasting:
  14. I like that he had a picture at the top of Monteagle. Still don't see trucks scooting up that hill quickly. A place so notorious that two songs were written about it.
  15. Gronk seems like he would be a fun guy to hang out with for a few days
  16. Rays sign Blake Snell to five years - $50mil. That seems like a decent deal for the Rays. I bet Keuchel puckered up upon hearing that.
  17. I think this place is restricted Yang, so don't tell 'em you're Jewish....OK fine.
  18. I certainly didn’t mean to over pay him. Offer him two years $25mil. ill check with my high ranking guy next time we have cocktails.
  19. Now go sign Dallas to two years and start making room in the trophy case

  21. Stoop-shouldered and sinisterly handsome, he slouches against the wall of the saloon, a filter cigarette in his teeth, collar open, perfectly happy and self-assured, gazing through the uneven darkness to sort out the winners from the losers. As the girls come by wearing their miniskirts, net stockings, big false eyelashes, long pressed hair and soulless expressions, he grins approvingly and says, "Hey, hold it, man—foxes." It is Joe Willie Namath at play. Relaxing. Nighttiming. The boss mover studying the defensive tendencies of New York's off-duty secretaries, stewardesses, dancers, nurses, bunnies, actresses, shopgirls—all of the people who make life stimulating for a bachelor who can throw one of the best passes in pro football. He poses a question for us all: Would you rather be young, single, rich, famous, talented, energetic and happy—or President?.....................................Easing into the clubs and restaurants that he frequents, Joe Willie handles his role well. "Don't overdo it, man," he says. "I can hang around till 3 or 4 and still grab my seven or eight." He sits, he eats, he sips, he smokes, he talks, he looks, and maybe he scares up a female companion and maybe he doesn't. "I don't like to date so much as I just like to kind of, you know, run into somethin', man," he says. https://www.si.com/vault/1966/10/17/614136/the-sweet-life-of-swinging-joe
  22. went this past Sunday. They didn't have the short rib so I ordered the filet, fatty brisket, and meatball. Damn fine Pho and huge portions. So much so that it became two meals. Will go again.
  23. best comment i read so far about the contract length. "There are Phillies fans not yet born that will be throwing batteries at him in the later years of this contract".
