  1. probably at Umpire camp
  2. speaking of shit companies - Rex finally filed Chapter 11 this morning.
  3. it was years go, but you're are correct - he never managed again, but he will tell you it was his choice....it wasn't. I was on the board then. Man its amazing some of the things I saw as a board member and the e-mails we would get from parents and coaches. I wish I kept them all, as it wold make for fun reading today.
  4. WULL guy here. Back in the machine pitch days we had a line that the defensive players could not cross (essentially they could not set-up in front of the machine) for their own safety. Of course one of the Managers figured that was a perfect recipe for his team to bunt.. I shit you not he had his team bunt like 12 times in a row because it was almost physically impossible for the other team to defense against it. He got called out and the rule was changed to stop all bunting in machine pitch. Total dick move by him. Especially his arguement that he was teaching the kids how to properly bunt.
  5. great stuff. It never dawned on me about the origin of Conjunto until someone mentioned it was the Germans that came to Tejas and introduced the accordian. Makes so much sense, and I also lover the German polkas.
  6. I wonder if Chai will be upset when she's told she has to wear authorized Starbucks gear while serving Chai lattes in her post college job.
  7. i wonder if he got caught banging Pius moms like he did at Kinkaid?
  8. sort of like building in a 100 year flood zone
  9. would DFA Sipp since he serves zero purpose on this roster. Keep Gattis in the hope he figures it out, and bring up another hitter.
  10. he will have a spreadsheet full of stats to spout off in post-game as to why that was the calculated move to make. His feel for the game is sometimes not so sharp.
  11. were the first two hits in the inning on Harris are on the shift?
  12. for the love of God Harris!
  13. I would say being over-selective is the #1 issue with Marwin. He takes way too many fastballs right down the middle for first or second strike. Never seen anything like it.
  14. Ya South campus thankfully didn't materialize as a place to play games (we just practiced there) until my son was already in Juniors. When we had McGovern it was better, from a travel perspective, but selling McGovern enabled us to develop South Campus and set-up the long-term survival of the league. It insured we had control of our fields and were no longer subject to the whim of a school board or elementary school principal.
  15. yep. Former WULL guy here. We had plenty of styro, tervis tumblers back in the day in the stands. Then we got an attorney as head of the league and between that and HISD cracking down (we have some of our fields on their property) there was a general push to stop it. Sort of amazing POLL still does it considering the number of uptight attorneys in that league along with the fact that all their fields are on HISD property.
  16. http://www.rbcrichardsonbarr.com/IndustryResearch/News.aspx?a=news&ticker=a&w=&story=201804thomsonreuters2187716_9999999_0.xml Jerrah (Arkoma) taking a controlling interest in Comstock
  17. not top five, but this always reminds me of the 60's. Agree with everyone else that For What Its Worth is the quintessential 60's song.
  18. Pettite was there last year, but not sure about this year. The other assistant is Raynor Noble. Story on why Lance is not at Rice. He did work under Wayne for a bit, but Wayne pulled him aside and said he didn't want Lance messing with the lower body of his hitters. He could only work on the arm action in the swing. Lance supposedly said to him that he had 366 career Home Runs, how many did you have?....knowing full well Wayne had Zero. Lance walked out, never to be seen from again.
  19. so Rick Perry Road?
  20. so even with a seven run lead Hinch is not comfortable letting Giles get some work. Pretty telling right there
  21. Yuli's not so good is a 100x better than anything Jake brings to the offense. There is no scenario where we are better off with Jake batting instead of Yuli.
  22. it's not that hard to find Fresno, he just needs to type it into is destination on Waze.
  23. not a milestone but a feat that might be hard to equal - getting a hit for two different teams in two different cities on the same day. Joel Youngblood - August 4, 1982. Mets and Expos. http://www.bleachernation.com/baseballisfun/2017/08/04/exactly-35-years-ago-joel-youngblood-got-hits-for-two-teams-in-two-cities-on-the-same-day/
