  1. Bagels everywhere.... To put in perspective of the disparity- A&M and Rice took over 3 and half hours to play Texas didn't even need half that time
  2. Rice had three match points Texas wins the dub points. Interesting to see Poluta in instead of the flatter hitting Markovic. Poluta does have steady hands.
  3. Congrats to Coach Berque for stepping into a tough position and claiming Coach of the Year! Wonder how many other interim coaches have ever gotten coach of the year honors. Christian is co-player of the year!
  4. Post season stuff: -Turatis and Granic make all Big 12s and have berths to the NCAA individual championships. I'm not too sure if Bianca will play though. She has to take advantage of her high ITF ranking (top 20) before her points from last year drop off. -Anna, Petra, and Katie are champions at their lines -Article on Petra: https://www.dailytexanonline.com/2019/05/02/croatian-champion-overcomes-homesickness-to-lead-longhorns -Pretty tough regional for Texas. A&M is the 2nd highest ranked second seed. Rice would have also been a second seed if tennis wasn't so focused on saving money and busing teams to nearby regionals. To that end, I would rate A&M vs. Rice as a toss up.
  5. I agree that the draw is quite favorable. Two of the three teams to beat us this year (Ohio State and USC), last year's NCAA champs Wake Forest, and perennial powerhouse Virginia (2015-2017 champions) are all on the opposite side of the draw.
  6. Should also mention Illinois State is in too and Dani Wagland is the grad assistant there
  7. LIU Brooklyn, A&M, Rice Almost the same regional as last year haha Oh and Miami (OH) is in. Congrats to alumni Bree Addison who's the Assistant there.
  8. Tennessee Tech, Alabama, South Florida!
  9. Selection day is today! Looks like UT will end up as the number 2 national seed. Will be interesting to see who gets sent to the Austin regional. With A&M, Baylor, and TCU also hosting, there'll be many teams the NCAA will have to fly down to the Lone Star State.
  10. Central Arkansas will most likely be sent to OK State. Loss to Kansas hurts pretty badly since the NCAA is changing to a new format this year where there'll be a super regional situation for the sweet sixteen. Thus the top 8 seeds get to host until the elite 8. If Texas were to get to the sweet sixteen, most likely to be sent to face UCLA or Vandy
  11. Men's final currently playing indoors. If women go indoors too, bigger advantage to Kansas
  12. and KU it is! They've got a big home support boost
  13. Facing a Baylor a third time tomorrow. BU beat ISU today, ISU had beaten them just five days ago Guessing Baylor will play their full roster this time around
  14. That was easily the worst lineup I've ever seen in a conference match. Really curious to see what Baylor did. Angie S played only doubles as has been the case lately for her, looks like she's getting back into shape from injury by slowly playing herself back in and just playing doubles. However, their players Livia K and Jessica H who have played almost every match were instead rested. Don't believe they have an injury.
  15. Don't know if this is a mistake but if the live scores are showing the true lineups today, Baylor is clearly not giving any effort today. Of the six singles listed, three walk ons are playing and they're also forfeiting line 6.
  16. This issue has been long debated for years well before I started playing tennis (in the '00s) and here's some of the issues. @perfectchaos007 feel free to correct me on any of these statement as I believe we both have seen many of this during our prep years. The first general issue is publicly funded programs giving scholarships to foreigners. If I'm correct, UT's athletic program is sustained financially by itself and is thus not reliant on tax payers money. TCU is also a private university. So if we were to ban or limit foreigners on athletic programs that are publicly funded, there would have been no effect on today's teams. Limiting the number of foreigners on ALL college team is also not that great of an idea. It's so not much of an issue at programs like UT or Florida but it will be an extreme problem for the mid major teams like Stephen F Austin, New Mexico State, Wichita State, etc. trickling down to the NAIA and JUCO levels. The thing about tennis is a lot of American players are from well to do families and do not need help both financially and academically to get into colleges. A lot of junior tennis players would rather walk on or play club tennis at a big name university rather than play tennis at a school three hours away from a major city with a student population the same as their high school. I know numerous friends and other people who were rated 3 or 4 stars that would have been great players at Southland schools and the DII level instead go to a big state school for more of a traditional college experience. The traditional powerhouse high school girls tennis program in Texas is Highland Park but most of the girls don't take scholarship offers (compare this to Katy High School football, Abilene High Volleyball, Duncanville Girls Bball). JUCO tried to limit the number of foreigners in 2012 only for them to be sued and have the regulation repealed in 2015. Coaches also LOVE to recruit foreigners as they're seen as more reliable than Americans. Foreigners are more likely to commit right after their official visit and not string coaches along and flip like Americans. Also foreigners are quick fixes. When Fendick McCain was having trouble filling her roster, she was able in a span of several months to convince an international to take her exiting exams, graduate, and come to UT a year early. Joffe has turned every program he's been at (Ohio, Maryland, A&M, and now UT) into conference leaders because of his ability to recruit and get foreign players to play for him at struggling places.
  17. Interesting to see that Ortiz (arm in sling) was also honored on senior day even though he's not on the roster
  18. Problem with Berque is that he'd be a step down when looking at his coaching tenure at Michigan. Only advanced to Sweet 16 once, never won a conference championship (in a conference with only two powerhouses), only one ever top 20 final ranking... If this team makes a deep run, questions also remain how much of this is Center's work
  19. Surprised at the number 1 ranking considering Ohio State and Texas are tied H2H and Ohio State was playing without their top player last week. This is the human poll. On the computer polls, Texas is still number 3.
  20. Illinois had the same exact players from last year's team that beat Texas playing singles today. Petra and Fernanda beat players that they lost against. Solid 7-3 record, considering half of the matches Texas was playing without Petra. Based on the non-conference play, I would say that Oklahoma State poses the biggest threat to Texas defending the Big XII title this year.
  21. Tijana is in the doubles lineup today!
  22. Win should move Texas up to #2 in the computer rankings next week
  23. Ladies won another tournament in Hawaii today coming down to the last hole where SMU bogeyed allowing a tie for first place! Agatha Laisne, last year's Big 12 FOY, didn't play. Also the 2017 Big 12 FOY Voelker turned pro over the winter break.
  24. A bit sad to see Center go. I've had conversations with him in the past and he's a really sociable and relatable person. Unfortunately greed got the best of him.
  25. Will be a lengthy search. CDC took his time with track and softball. Has shown he wants the cream of the crop. Most likely nobody will properly have an interview until after the season is over in mid May.
