  1. COTA obviously must have done geological studies of the soil at the site, so the characteristics of that black clay can't have been a surprise. Was the subsurface soil stabilization and track construction and engineering done properly, or did they skimp on it like SH130 did? Why didn't they pick a site somewhere west of I-35, where there is actually bedrock?

  3. I guess the roads are the scariest place to be today: (From KXAN's website) Multiple crashes along I-35 in between U.S. Highway 183 and Rundberg Lane are causing major traffic congestion on Thursday. According to APD, there is one crash in the 8800 block of I-35 southbound, where all southbound lanes are closed. Austin police and medics are also reporting to a multiple-vehicle collision in the 8700 block of north I-35 northbound, in addition to a secondary multiple-vehicle collision in the southbound lanes. According to APD, there are a total of seven fire trucks and five ambulances on the scene. Drivers are advised to expect delays and seek alternate routes.
  4. Pourin' out a shot of J. Darby for my man Lloyd. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CTLkvQJWoAACtyU.jpg
  5. I want Star Trek transporter pads at all major retailers, employers, schools, and government institutions. (Seriously how close is that technology to reality? I mean we already have cell phones that are better than Trek communicators and data pads.) There is the drawback that (IMHO) the transporter kills the original "you" and just creates a clone with your memories at the destination point.
  6. Out of the ten thousand other fucking things wrong, how come our DBs never look back and PLAY THE FUCKING BALL
  7. Bojack Horseman: "Life is a series of closing doors, isn't it."
  8. I haven't tried the new system yet but it seems there is more potential for things to go wrong, with the whole ballot printing and scanning process. I hope these machines are engineered to be hella reliable, and easy to use.
  9. Those unis might look good if TCU installs some black lights at Amon G. Carter and turns the whole thing into a rave.
  10. I've seen better defense being played on those old vibrating football games where the players just move in random directions
  11. Wouldn't it be better if the orange and red lines, I dunno, connected to something like the purple or yellow lines? Maybe they just want those people to stay on Parmer & Cameron and never go downtown.
  12. It's been several years since I got off my ass and actually went to a game at DKR. I picked up a couple of cheap tickets for the Kansas game off Stubhub--Section 127. High up on the east side. I notice the tickets are marked Gate 31. Looking at a stadium map, Gate 31 doesn't seem to be particularly close to Sec. 127. And, isn't Gate 31 for student tickets? Do I actually have to use the gate marked on the ticket? Thanks...
  13. Getting dominated in all phases of the game by the worst team in the NFL. This is my 1993-Oilers-Bills game, except it's Dallas. Close the franchise, burn down AT&T Field, and turn the site into something useful like a landfill or public park.
  14. I'd like to also request that when a parking lot has aisles that are designed and marked to be used in one direction, please don't drive the wrong way down them. (And if you do go the wrong way, please don't act like I'm the asshole when I'm going the "correct" way and we meet head-on.)
  15. Do you think you want city stuff or nature stuff? Honolulu has your museums, shopping, dining, fancy hotels, close to Pearl Harbor if history is your thing. But it's pretty urban and crowded. While Oahu certainly has beaches and some nature stuff, f you want to Get Away From It All and see natural beauty, other islands would probably be better for that.
  16. After that Bills game I was like
  17. Austin isn't known for proactively developing infrastructure (especially transportation) to prepare for growth. We like to build splashy big projects and then act surprised when it's a clusterfuck.
  18. They'll probably fuck up the fishing and natural-use purposes. When I go to a lake, I'm not looking for the got dang Santa Cruz Boardwalk.
  19. I'm flashing back to some games where we got completely gashed by mobile quarterbacks (that nobody considered to be mobile quarterbacks until they played us).
  20. So are the Redskins just basically throwing Colt out there to be a sacrificial lamb and/or scapegoat?
  21. Got damn right:
  22. Probably already posted, but fuck that toilet paper ad with the animated bear singing about how clean their fucking hiney is.
  23. Too bad these guys are in retirement: because I'd pay money to watch someone fuck up these goon(s) who are doing this to you
  24. I watched the whole thing, It was like watching a very pretty painting. A couple of times I had to verify that I hadn't accidentally paused the video.
  25. Slight derail, but what other city or cities in the USA could be considered most comparable to Austin circa 1990 (or even 2000)? As in, big enough to have some interesting shit to do, but not so big that it's choked with congestion or expensive to live in? Oh, and reasonable climate.
