  1. Kinda soon for a remake of The Strain but w/e.
  2. Was kinda expecting the old joke about painting the porch/porsche.
  3. The KXAN article up now says she was on video actually inside the building, and exited on the rear side. You'd think if she was feeling ill that she'd stay inside or ask for help, but ... who knows.
  4. Is it the place now shown as Mongolian Hot Pot on google streetview? Or was it further west where the Shell station is now? I remember an old burger or bbq place somewhere along that side of the street in that area, in the early 90s.
  5. Scattered clouds providing a few welcome moments of shade in 78753.
  6. Well, I don't know about how you'd actually get football via streaming, but as a general (basic and cheap) streaming device for Netflix and Amazon I've been satisfied with my Roku Express+. I think it cost about $30. Doesn't support 4K though, or 5 ghz wireless--only 2.4. And no voice-operated search.
  7. It's fuckin' hot as shit already today. Not looking forward to late afternoon.
  8. Dammit get here already
  9. That's a terrible thing to hear; best of luck to you and your mother. Lung cancer killed my mother a little over 10 years ago. Fuck cancer.

Very mellow and easy to watch. Funny with a nice undercurrent of melancholy. I'll keep watching. Although I do have concerns about how well this will sustain itself in the long term. It's hard to see this becoming a Big Dramatic Event show like, say, Breaking Bad or even BCS.
  11. Dammit Malls are in a death spiral. Nothing but women's shoe stores as far as the eye can see. Broken up by the occasional overpriced chain jewelry shop.
  12. Picture of shark, clearly disoriented and in distress
  13. Are we allowed to bring our own peanuts? Or would that end in a trip to Gitmo?
  14. Well, in a couple of those pics there is still some fuselage left. Let's hope some people got out. Is it too soon to speculate? I have absolutely no supporting information but I'm going with runway overshoot on landing or engine problems on takeoff.
  15. She's on consignment? Cue Blues Brother's "how much for the little girl?" clip
  16. Son of a bitch it's midnight and it's still 90 degrees+
  17. Everything (transportation, goods and services, government, housing, quality of life) is gradually going to become more crowded, more expensive, yet shabbier, crappier and dumber. Prepare for a "Soylent Green" kind of world by 2100 or 2150. (Unless you are in the executive, high political, or financial class, who will wall themselves off in private luxury communities.)
  18. It's pretty clear he's acting out because he feels like the neighborhood is intolerant of his creatively provocative character quirks. Y'all need to open your minds and throw a big surprise party for him, with pinatas and live music and some good bbq, maybe a bouncy house or a dunking booth.
  19. In the early '90s a guy at my dorm would always tell this story about how his Ranger unit with the 82nd Airborne was geared up for some special mission to capture Saddam. Supposedly they were all packed into a C130 or whatever with the engines running when the Iraqis surrendered so their mission was scrubbed at the last second. Guy was a complete chode who I wouldn't trust with a BB gun, but maybe there's a half a percent chance it was true.
  20. Hard to say without knowing more about what you really want (picture size, budget, lighting, do you want HDR, do you need a wide viewing angle?). But as a generic recommendation, for the 55-65 inch size range, here are my suggestions: Under $500 - don't bother (except maybe for one of those budget TCLs that are currently getting good reviews, and mainly if you really need a TV and just don't have the budget for more) $500 -$700: Samsung NU7100. Some other sets at this price level (TCL, Vizio) will have more/better features, but are also more likely (IMHO) to have uniformity problems. This Samsung is a basic set but it reviews well with no major problems. It won't do HDR well, but it is good at "regular" 1080p and 4k HDTV. $700 -$900: Samsung NU8000. For about $1200-$1400, you are in Sony X900F territory. This is a very popular set for being a really good performer at a still-reasonable price. If you have the budget, OLED TVs by Sony or LG generally get the best reviews, but they tend to start at $1600 and up, and they can have issues with burn-in and some other quality issues.
  21. Also didn't help that 3dfx was doing shit like renting out the Playboy mansion for parties. I'm still stumped that 3dfx's Glide compatibility and features like hardware FSAA lost out to the Nvidia feature set of stuff like 32-bit color and T&L, which weren't really useful anyway in their early generation hardware. It seemed like OEMs wanted marketing-based features that looked cool on the box, more than stuff you needed for actual gaming. Then again, fast forward to now when all the TVs are 4K HDR yet the shit my cable box pumps out is overcompressed 1080i/720p which actually looks worse on a 4K display. Marketing always wins, especially when backed up with predictable execution. But any day now, Rampage will be out, and things will be OK.
  22. Is this thing U.S. highway-legal? Article says top speed is 45 mph. Edit: no, off road only
  23. Bumping this thread; any recommendations for retirement/assisted living in the greater Austin area that is professional, with nice facilities, while still keeping a budget in mind? (I know, you can't have it all...) My father and his wife (both late 80s) were working professionals who retired fairly young. They've been accustomed to a high standard of living because they lived in an inexpensive area, which helped their salaries and pensions go farther, and their house was paid for long ago. But in today's terms, their income is not high, and their only major asset is the house which is probably worth about 300k. TLDR: where do you put parents who lived a country club Cadillac lifestyle, but have just about outlived their money/income.
  24. Amazed they found 'em. Let's hope they can actually get them out.
  25. Maybe you can purge it with a maximum flow of wastewater...turn on all your faucets & tub spouts, station a friend or family member at each commode, and do a synchronized flush. Maybe that will build enough pressure behind the clog to break it loose. This may cause some flooding at the first floor commode you mentioned so be ready for that. Disclaimer: I'm not a plumber and I'm not responsible for any damage, costs, or injuries directly or indirectly resulting from anything I've said in this post. But if you try it, please post a video.
