I don't even think it was that. She actually ended up being a better candidate than I thought she would. Doubtful she wins in a true primary process but i'm not convinced anyone could have done much better. I think it came down to 2 things that I previewed last year and was shit all over in this forum. Rapid inflation over last 4 years (which was inevitable regardless of executive control but that doesn't matter as party in charge will always get the blame) which was the biggest problem, combined with the now 'fact' that progressive ideas/PC culture are just flat out losers. MAGA made it a culture war and it worked. Nobody wants to hear it or accept it but it's the truth. For example, not being able to just flat out say unequivocally "biological men should not play women's sports" is a loser. It doesn't matter if it's not happening in reality (we know it's not).
This was a referendum on the economy and 'woke' culture in a social media algorithm driven world and there aren't enough educated voters who have retained the ability to critically analyze issues left to make a difference. This is an era of low information voters across all age groups and demographics, and regardless how much I didn't want to believe it would actually happen, it swung the way I felt it might for the past 2 years (although I never thought it would be a full popular vote shift). I'm going to retire away from the cloak room again, but I'll be fascinated to see WTF the D party does when the dust settles because this was a shock to the system.
