  1. Those 2 + Gore was popular enough to be a few hanging chads short of winning the presidency.
  2. Any chance Tech had at getting Texas to play them in Lubbock again ended with the way they completely Tech'd it up both when Beard returned and all the additional security we had to hire to deal with that nonsense + their absurdity after the football win last year including flat out assaulting one of our players trying to leave the field. That's Tech. That's who they are. And I would be beyond shocked if anyone from this generation of our athletic dept would ever agree to play them again. Absolutely zero upside.
  3. I mean the DNC or mega donors or whomever else is working on big picture strategy. Kamala isn't a popular VP. That's been obvious for 2 years. I don't know "who" but "someone" should have been working on a plan. Biden could have a serious adverse health event at any time. I've just personally thought there have been alarm bells ringing for over a year now for an election that could be disastrous for democracy and that concern is only growing. I would still bet on Biden if I had to put a bet down today but I don't feel great about it. And that has nothing to do with Biden because I do think he's too old for the job (as is Trump). I just think when push comes to shove Trump will once again turn off everyone "BUT" his base and not pick up any votes. I'm just concerned Biden will be able to retain the votes he needs.
  4. Biden's approval ratings have been shit for a while now. I don't think the vocal minority of misguided progressives move the needle on this or anything else they bitch about.
  5. I don't think that's going to move the needle much come next year. I think it boils down to what I'm pretty sure I posted months ago on this thread. Biden's age and the economy. Yes, I get the Trump is also old. And yes, I get that unemployment is still really low and rate of inflation has been reduced. I don't think it matters. Because to the average America, Biden "Seems" significantly older than Trump (the whole "Biden has dementia, doesn't know where he is" narratives have been effective) and your average America doesn't pay attention to data, they just know everything is really fucking expensive and even if employed their purchasing power is way down. Let me be clear I don't blame Biden for inflation. It was inevitable post Covid. But he's the President so he gets the blame from Joe Public. That's how it's always been. Obviously Biden hasn't really started campaigning and can combat these narratives (and an active campaign will highlight that Trump is old AF as well) but these are legitimate concerns that, apparently, to date, the Dem establishment has taken lightly. The Dems should have been grooming someone as a potential alternative in 24 (or obvious successor) and they haven't done that. I think a younger likeable moderate candidate would wipe the floor with Trump. I also think a younger likeable moderate candidate that the GOP would actually support (which will never be the case in the current "MAGA" environment) could wipe the floor with Biden. But instead, we're going to watch 2 incredibly old candidates battle it out in the most consequential election we've had.
  6. He's about to turn 68. It would be the aggiest move of all time to take the PR hit on a coach that far removed from his prime.
  7. We don't need a "dual threat" QB. But we need a QB that is at least a "threat" to run an pick up easy yards. QE is certainly not dual threat but he's proven to be an effective (if not reckless at times) runner. We become much easier to defend if the defense doesn't have to account for the QB running in any situation which has certainly been the case for MM so far. It's a big part of the reason I'm advocating getting Arch a series or 2 in the first half this week if QE can't go.
  8. We'll probably play Rice at Reliant at some point, but yeah, no true road game at a smaller stadium for a long time.
  9. That's an incredibly simplified take. I'm not going to go back and look at injury situation in some of those '21 games but I'm pretty confident that if we were missing as many starters at key positions then as we are now we would never get leads to begin with because our depth was absolute shit back then. Our depth is a ton better but still not on a level of Bama/GA obviously. That team that beat Bama was a completely different team because we were healthy. Biggest thing that can help this team right now is getting guys back and/or closer to 100% at QB, OL and in the secondary. And while you are bitching about the "4th down BS" are you forgetting we scored a 50YD rushing TD with that "Fourth Down BS"?
  10. I can't recall him scrambling and gaining a single positive yard to date.
  11. I think you have to give Arch an early series this week. If nothing else just to be able to pull MM if he starts melting down again like he did last week and not have Arch's first snaps be with the game on the line. Obviously everyone knows MM is a pocket passer but apparently he is absolutely zero run threat. Arch may not be ready but I feel like he can at least scramble for 5 yards when it's wide open and avoid the panic throw directly at a DB with no Texas receiver in sight. Regardless, rest of the team has to play better when you have a chance to put the gaem away. Defense played great overall but if we just push the receiver out of bounds on the play right before the quarter I feel like the game never gets away from us. Set up red zone defense there and potentially get a stop or at least make them burn some 4th quarter clock. Instead, they start the 4th with momentum and meltdown ensues. And obviously, J Brooks has been great for us but just cannot fumble in that situation. MM was the biggest issue but it took numerous fuckups to almost lose that game like we did.
  12. I'm hoping the OU missed PI call leads to some media articles this week that will point out some of the statistics this year to hopefully put a little bit of pressure on officials calling Texas games the next couple of weeks. In Texas games, they have been good and making horrible calls under the radar (just from yesterday, no PI call when Texas up 17, iffy hold when Texas driving late, only calling a hold on opponent with a simultaneously flag against Texas D, etc. etc.). In other words, big calls that absolutely have a massive impact on the flow of the game but may not go viral on twitter. Luckily that OU call was at an important enough point in the game that it should get a bit more attention. One can hope at least. Fuck this conference.
  13. I missed the 2nd quarter with kids soccer so watched that this morning. I watched that play 4 or 5 times. Unless Cook somehow played tremendous defense, I'm pretty sure that ball was picked regardless. What Sark said about Malik is exactly right. He tries to make plays when there is absolutely no play to be made. Nobody was open on that play. He throws it away we are at 3rd and 2 in FG range and likely get points on the drive. He throws the ball on the 4th quarter pic away instead of making probably the most boneheaded play I've seen a Texas QB make (with stiff competition from his throw against BYU last week) we punt it and it likely never gets that close. I don't think anyone is "giving up on MM" as is the narrative by some on this thread. But we're playing for a conference championship and playoff spot right now. If this was an 8-4 or 7-5 season fine, let him make mistakes and figure it out, but we aren't in a position for him to work through this right now. A better D probably picks off 4 passes yesterday. Assuming Ewers can't go, I think we have to get Arch in for a series early next week so that if it's a tight game and MM is melting down, Arch isn't in a position to have to save us on his first ever series. Arch will never be "dual threat" but he can actually scramble if open unlike MM and move the chains. And he may very well make mistakes and throw picks not reading coverage, but if nothing else, I would think his pedigree would keep him from just pure WTF throws right at a defender we've seen the past 2 weeks. More importantly we need QE back. We're playing with fire as long as he is out.
  14. Until that 4 down stop that was the worst 15:20 + OT of Texas football I've seen in a long time. So many mistakes. Arch needs to play next week if not start. We can't be put in a position where we can't pull MM if he gives the ball away like that again.
  15. Great Ball MM
  16. JT completely fucks us over. Better make up for it. Inexcusable in that situation.
  17. Look at all those empty seats in the Student Section. Good Job Good Effort. Pathetic.
  18. Other than actual parade production (and timeline) which was severely lacking, one of the biggest mistakes was shutting off access to the interior WAY before the parade started. On the opposite side of the barriers, there were fans only 2-3 deep while probably 50+ deep on the other side. We got there probably an hour before it started and asked a cop where we could cross and he said they had shut it off. It made zero sense. So as people parked on the outside the crowd kept growing deeper and deeper with shitty views and hardly anyone on the other side. They should have just opened up for 5 minutes and let a few thousand people get through to even it out a bit. It was a pretty simple solution. It was just not thought our or well organized at all. But my kid had fun so whatever.
  19. Took my kid yesterday. Good time but man that was one disorganized parade. There was like a 40 minute lull between the marching bands and a couple of floats and the next one LOL. They clearly threw that shit together in 24 hours. Very on brand Arlington. In hindsight would have just tried to figure out a way to get to the stage ceremony. We were done by the time Bochy and WS trophy finally came by.
  20. All i've heard through the grapevine is more likely out than known. And hopefully 1 or 2 learned the difference between being hurt and being injured overnight.
  21. This is what I came to see if public yet either. I heard potentially more than expected.
  22. I'm leaning towards going and taking my son. But this also concerns me.
  23. This was a great read: Inside the night the Rangers became World Series champions - ESPN
  24. Since sharing old memories. Thought about my uncle and granddad last night. Those old men would watch every single game. I went to several with my granddad over the years. Uncle was almost as old as my grandad (married my dad's sister) and when my grandad spoke at his funeral he mentioned a rangers win streak and how he could rest easy. A couple of years later when I spoke at my granddad's funeral, I made a joke about how he couldn't bear to watch them any more after we started the season terribly (as was often the case). Those guys would have been on cloud 9 last night. Then I thought about the fact that no doubt a Rangers game at the original ballpark in the late 80's was my first pro sports game. We would drive in from West Texas and do Six Flags + Wet N Wild + Rangers once or twice a summer. Always the highlight of the summer. I remember a special trip in the early 90's just to see Nolan Ryan pitch. I recall we actually had good seats for that one and I was in awe. So I was a Rangers fan first and then I guess the 90's Cowboys run helped solidify my relationship with Dallas despite living 4 hours away. I moved to Austin in HS and stayed through UT and during those 8 years was somehow fully locked into the Stars and Mavs despite only attending 1 game each in the rafters at reunion on a random trip as a kid (my 2nd ever Mavs game was one of the early Dirk playoff games in college in San Antonio which solidified my Spurs hatred). When deciding on law school, I was choosing between SMU and UH. Like that was even a fucking choice. Fuck Houston. I have now lived here 20 years and raising my kids here. Crazy to think a big part of that path all started with a crappy Rangers team in a crappy stadium in the 1980's that connected me to this area. Made sure to thank my dad last night for taking me to those games all those years ago.
  25. Probably need to actually do some work today at this point but just read through the last 3 innings of this thread. Greatness and pretty much mirrored all my emotions. Still in shock.
