  1. What is your plan for the homeless?
  2. I popped into the stream of Tulsi‘S town hall in austin and a dude was saying he came from San Antonio for the event near where the cases are being found. I bet every asshole in that room clenched.
  3. I bet you were really proud of that zinger.
  4. He could be in 3rd when initial results come in as those are usually the early votes when you had more nominees but he'll rise as the night goes on and Election Day results are counted.
  5. In related news, Delta is adding an additional daily AUS-SEA flight. So...that's news.
  6. Mine too. No regrets. He would have been a good potus.
  7. Could Amy get a negative percentage?
  8. Sending this nomination allows the current acting director to stay in office for another 210 days without senate approval. This is just gaming the system.
  9. What could you see in SC that would change your vote?
  10. That's fair but I think the risk is motivated by the desire to expand the medical school and they have to demolish Erwin and Cooley to do that.
  11. Those lights are going and people will just U-turn at the grade separated intersection nearby. A DC at Mopac would have to be a part of a Mopac project.
  12. That's the price of having public input. They have to engineer options, promote events, have events, organize info, engineer consensus to see what's possible, come back to public, repeat, then do full design and env review. The public input is why it'll be underpasses instead of overpasses. I'm actually all for in taking out the public outreach portion and just tell people to shut up and deal with it but it keeps complaints down. Anyway, as a reminder this is what the caps would look like:
  13. Some more notes that came from the Statesman and Lara Korte . -$30 million will be used for construction costs and the other $30 million will be used to outfit the building with the proper training equipment. -Construction costs for the facility are higher than normal, Fenves added, because the building is being constructed over a truck access route to the Moody Center. This would put the practice facility on the arena's west side along the new Red River St. -The school hopes to complete the Moody Center and practice facility as soon as possible to make room for the expansion of the nearby Dell Medical School. As a result, the school is requesting to fund the practice facility by going into debt, with the hope that it will be repaid with future donations. This could make Shaka's buyout worth it if CDC feels that Shaka is the problem. The team needs to win to get donations.

  15. Spirit Airlines actually launched its first international flight today to Cancun. They start Nashville and Newark next month. That'll be 13 cities and they've only been here a year.
  16. Na. It's just a little more asphalt and just repainting. I don't think it'll require utility and drainage work. The dark gray is new asphalt. The long term work will take years but it'll be worth it. I've previewed those changes early in this thread.
  17. HOV. Rendering is based on previous design which will change in some way. There is also an exit to 12th. It also includes braided entrances/exits which reduces congestion.
  18. That's crazy. As a reminder, the last plan was to lower the mainlanes in downtown and tunnel them where the decks are.
  19. -CTRMA is officially underway with a study to extend the Manor Expressway (290) to Elgin. Phase 1 of construction would extend the tollway to FM 973 in Manor and phase 2 would go to Elgin. -183 South work will finish in December -Construction will start late this year on the 183A extension from Hero Way to 29 in Liberty Hill -Construction on the additional general purpose lane and 2 toll lanes on 183 from Mopac to 35 will start early next year. This will also include big improvements to the mopac toll lane as well as direct ramps from the mopac toll lanes to 183 toll lanes. -Mopac South costs are being updated and environmental assessment still underway -CTRMA is proposing adding lanes to SB Mopac near Barton Skyway to ease merging congestion. Seem like smart short term changes. Long term those 2 on ramps in a row have to go. The purpose is to help Enfield ramp merge further north. -TxDot will start Oak Hill Parkway construction at the Y in SW Austin towards the end of the year. -CAMPO sees a 2027 start to designing the missing piece of the 45 tollroad in Kyle between 35 and 1626
  20. Allegiant is terrible but they haven't had a hull loss at least. Leasing out the South Terminal really ended up being a great call. No cost to the port and really gives more opportunities for trying out new routes. Not all will stick but some do.
  21. Thanks! No clue what that group is. I think they will. AUS has seemed to go all in on budget airlines like Norwegian, Allegiant, Frontier and Spirit. It has opened up a lot of new directs.
  22. -Looks like seasonal Norwegian service is back. Paris service starts May 6th, and then KLM to Amsterdam starts May 7th. -Duty Free store is now open at AUS Some of my takeaways about changes from the initial master plan: -I hope they know what they are doing with the tunnel... -it'll be nice the south terminal has its own taxiway to both runways while heavy construction is going on in the center. -It makes sense to start with the west half of the new center concourse since there is more room on the west side due to the new deicing facility on the east side -Looks like the new road connection will just be 2 levels instead of having a 3rd for pedestrian crossing and instead there will be a massive arc bridge for pedestrian crossings -I'm sure it'll be nice for the planes in the back of the east terminal extension to have the new corner connection (new Golf1 I'm Guessing) to the east runway taxiway. -Interesting that the new terminal processing building will be more integrated to the BJ terminal. I wonder what the construction plan is. I wouldn't be surprised if the 1st phase of the processing building is more separate and the integration project comes after it opens. Some thoughts on Mikey's schedule notes: -It helps solve the question of, "how the hell can they aford all this?" It'll be interesting to see how they design the west infill. I'm betting it is more rectangular to fill the space to make more room for check in without taking away space for security. -I wonder if they can manage to get the new west taxiway Foxtrot ready to build at the same time they close the west runway for maintenance/upgrades and renumbering. Seems like it would be hard to build the taxiway next to an active runway. I assume all the quick exits in the new taxiway increases the amount of operations the runways can handle per hour? -Would it be crazy to cut and cap the tunnel? You would have to probably get the scheduling right so you finish the south half of the cap with the new apron so you could cut and cap the north half. Reminder about TxDOT work drastically changing how cars get to airport: -The new entrance system for the port is going to be really great. Now all airport traffic on WB 71 will exit before 183, take a bridge over 183, and take a new bridge over Spirt of Texas to get to the new braided Presidential Blvd which will eliminate the traffic light for everyone. The new 183 SB to 71 EB direct ramp will have an exit built onto it for airport traffic as well to the new EB frontage roads and a new ramp from 183 NB to the new frontage as well as a ramp to the WB mainlanes. Basically, it get airport bound cars off the highway before 183 traffic joins the 71 mainlanes. Just smart highway design.
  23. You know that is clearly not what I said. It's choosing between an option you know won't work but won't be terrible and an option with high risk/high reward.
  24. TxDot did a massive study on the effect of high speed rail in Texas. Here are the effects of 1 of the 3 route options between Dallas and San Antonio. The differences between the 3 are all in the metroplex. "Effects on Transit Providers: 21% and 62% of bus and air passengers would be diverted to rail, respectively. Resulting in moderate and substantial effects on bus and air service providers, respectively. Change in VMT: Substantial (beneficial) effects. 7.2% reduction in VMT. Potential secondary beneficial effect (reduced congestion) to bus service providers. For air carriers the potential benefits may include the opportunity to shift from short-haul to longer-haul flight operations, which may include more reliable scheduling and increased revenue." Annual energy savings: 1,413,391 MBTUs Air Quality: Based on short-term construction emissions and based on operational pollutant emission reductions: Substantial (adverse) short-term (construction) effects and substantial (benefit) long-term regional (operation) effects.Beneficial effect (15% reduction) Prime farmland: 10,217 acres. Substantial effects.
