  1. Not to mention the cable car prices have gotten insane. Maybe they've jacked up the prices to keep tourism down though clearly not working. Probably more to make a ton of money will they can. No Italian is paying that without having something like a Supersummer pass. 2013... today...
  2. Which one. Last time we stayed there, the only thing open midweek was King's Texas Smokehouse. Looks like it is now closed. Not many food options in that dot on a map.
  3. On a side note, was curious about one of the places we like near Camp Wood. Looks like the cabins are just outside of the 100 year flood plain (which honestly does not mean much these days) as you can see below: But what I found interesting is twofold: 1) Data / flood maps that look incredibly outdated 2) Entire sections where there is no digital data available. See the actual town of Camp Wood:
  4. PSG? Was Donnarumma there?
  5. The local solution, for now, as Seceda's pastoral vibe gets ruined. Not sure this solves anything. Maybe make it only accessible to hikers. https://www.rainews.it/tgr/trento/articoli/2025/07/seceda-tornello-overtourism-pedaggio-dolomiti-7c8b4460-1f46-4e8c-852c-c2f162285e1b.html
  6. Below you'll see three pictures I took around 2014 from Seceda in Ortisei... so calm and peaceful. It was amazing. This was just down the valley from where I learned to ski as a kid. Now? this is the line to ride the cable car up. Dude... this pisses me off to no end. I loathe LOATHE overtourism.
  7. Sounds like what it used to feel like driving down 71 through Bastrop. Absolute devastation.
  8. ...and yet he wiped the floor with all of them
  9. Yup. Mine's an introvert at heart so I've seen how band helped him with a community in HS. My younger one is more extroverted and he's always had soccer (club and HS) but for the older one, I can see the big advantage with college band. BUT, again, the experience and the grind I think will help him get into college. We'll see.
  10. Hope this is true I can tell you my son had leadership sessions last week W-F from 9-5 and this week until school starts, he gets to be at school at 6:45 AM until 5:00 PM to prep for the season. One has to think that type of dedication has an impact when being considered for a school (whether you want to be in marching band or not)
  11. This is my thought process. I wasn't in band. My school, even though it was a big school, really didn't place much of an emphasis (or pay attention) to band. My son goes to a school with a probably better-funded band than the football program. They're routinely nationally ranked. So, to me, band has been a great experience for him. He has had to push himself and dedicate himself to a working with "the team". He's in leadership his senior year and I think since his grades are... uh... kind of like mine were, the band experience and effort should help him when trying to get into certain schools that look at the whole student, not just grades. Also, some schools that he is considering have great band programs - he wants to keep marching. For some schools, that matters and, to go back to your original point, it does provide that third space and community right as you plug into college.
  12. You should go see Je'Texas when the rare opportunity arises...
  13. There is absolutely a difference in swamp ass between the two cities. I will say the clouds yesterday in Austin made it semi-tolerable. Still the case today but if it clears up, I'm this little stretch is over.
  14. That sucks. Usually the crowd is really into them and they have a good following. Seen them twice and I really enjoyed their show. Wasn't there supposed to be a good after show? Saw Grouplove tonight at the MLS fan fest. They are so great live.
  15. Maybe I need to listen to more of his music. I've always liked "Dirty"
  16. Hot Summer Nights next week. Anyone going? Plan on hitting it Friday with a friend and Saturday with my wife. No Coldplay cover bands, thankfully. Probably going to hit this show in August...
  17. and yet she didn't see around that corner
  18. Interesting document and a good image about preventing from getting in this situation in first place... this speaks to my greed comment earlier Massive document - interesting stuff when you have a troublesome #2 - https://floodsciencecenter.org/products/elected-officials-flood-risk-guide/moving-beyond-the-essentials/5/#question_44
  19. Yeah it's Coldplay's fault Nah dude... stop cheating and just parading around with your sidepiece thinking there will never be consequences... and then blame OTHERS for the consequences of your actions.
  20. Honestly, anyone who has lived next to a flood-prone area knows you should not build in those areas. The only people that do tend to be 1) stupid 2) greedy or 3) ignorant. I'm sorry. You don't build in a floodway. And if your property line is in the 100 year floodplain and you can casually throw a rock and hit the floodway, you might want to think twice. 2011 maps don't have to be super accurate to tell me that shit is flooding. And my point is this - you want to do that with your property and your family, that's on you. Don't do it with elementary school kids (aaaand not have a plan to get them out)
  21. You're not getting it. I'm point out that in Houston or Hunt or Wimberley or anywhere regardless of whether we are talking about flash flood danger a la Gaudalupe or massive rain event a la Harvey, you don't build in the floodway. Take the actual event out of it. You don't build a house next to a fireworks plant and then complain when it blows up. You certainly don't use that house as a summer camp cabin.
  22. I wish we would stop referring to cabins in the 100 year floodzone. Yes, some indeed were in the 100 year flood zone but the lowest ones were in the floodway. There is a difference. Let me show you a non-Mystic example or two... Here is Buffalo Bayou in Houston close to BW8/T&C and as you go into the villages... the flood zone is light blue. You build/live there, you need insurance and assume there is a risk because you are in the 100 year flood plain. The green is the 500 year flood plain. Lower risk, no flood insurance required. The dark blue... yeah, that shit is flooding. When we flooded with Harvey, our neighborhood had a house built around 1958 in the floodway. That house got wrecked. You do not build in the floodway. THAT is where Mystic had cabins full of little girls. Now here's Meyerland. Damn they won't stop rebuilding houses in the flood zone... you've probably seen the crazy ass lifted homes on Braeswood before. Flood zone. Yeah, I think they're kind of dumb. Meyerland farts and it floods. BUT they're not in the floodway. That's insane. That's where Mystic knowingly maintaned cabins. Now, back to the Mystic map... A or light blue is the flood zone... like the people who lift their houses in Meyerland. The striped section is floodway, like the dark blue above and where Mystic had the youngest children. Different view...
  23. Was speaking to a neighbor who is a lawyer and friends with a parent who had a daughter attend CM that week (daughter is fine). Anyway, she said all it will take is for one family to use and then floodgates will open. There will be one.
  24. Google Quince Camp Wood
