Florida forest service is on site to relieve crews at the wimberley fire. No structures lost yet as of the judge’s update earlier this afternoon. Though he showed in his video how close one house got to being burned. It went right up to the deck and foundation.
Sounds like they are doing a great job of saving all those houses. Don't think I've heard of a structure being burned. I love that little section of Wimberley... really pretty in those hills but its either death by fire or flood.

Kinda amusing to see a lot of criticism about a nonconforming guy who has created anywhere between 48,000 & 100,000 jobs, jumpstarted the EV industry into a serious business, and is making the space industry a viable business.
So what if he screws a bunch of women and is jacking around with that FB crap?
Getting into crypto lately?

No doubt. In fact, one of the greatest meals I ever had was when the three chefs who started Pass and Provisions and Oxheart did a pop-up in Houston... it lasted for one month and it was absolutely amazing. More akin to these experiences. I certainly appreciate it.

Agreed. I really like the slow food movement in Northern Italy.
I would say I'm just happy eating typical local dishes when traveling and I found that visiting agriturismi is one of the best ways to experience great local cooking that truly focuses on the km 0 approach. Found so many great meals in the countryside this past trip. Always do. Its where Google Maps can sometimes really excel in allowing you to poke and prod on maps to see what you an find.

What's interesting about that food and I bet its amazing and delicious is that approach to eating is almost like the culinary opposite of eating in Italy and the approach towards simplicity and certainly towards not starving your customers. I guess one upside if you won't have to find yourself struggling to eat an entire meal to avoid the "you didn't like it? It wasn't good?" interrogation followed by dirty looks.
This summer we were grilled by our waiter at a restaurant in Numana when our boys didn't finish their pasta.

So you're OK with 100-105 degree days, as long as there's rain, but also low humidity? Care to explain where this magical place exists, professor?
Workin' on it...

Well, I don't know that I want that humidity all the time. I did flee Houston.

Rest of state not gonna see much drought relief, but daily high temperatures should at least drop from "melt your face" to "somewhat hotter than usual for this time of year"
The real interesting heat stuff has now moved up to the High Plains. A lot of places in Nebraska, Montana, Dakotas gonna touch 100 several times over the next week.
Honestly I'll take 100 - 105 every day and like it IF you give me rain, too. Don't just give me one and deprive me of the other. Mix in some good rain and F it.

We'll see. I, my kids, and three other families will be flying to Colorado on Saturday for a week in Breckenridge. While we'll be outdoors most of the week, that'll include hanging out in two airports on the way there and back and being in a sold-out plane for two hours each way. Neither I nor my kids have had COVID (and all of us are vaxxed with one booster), but a few others who will be in our group have during the Omicron phase of 2021.
Yup... we went to Italy, took a total of 6 flights, masked on the plane and mostly in the airport and still didn't catch it but, yes, 95% of our "public" time was outside. Came back - still no Covid.
"4 of us hadn't had covid yet. All were vaccinated with Moderna or Pfizer and boosted once. 3 out of the 4 ended up with covid."
Welp, there's always a 25% chance, isn't there?

Sad to see Hermosa still growing. That's a beautiful part of Wimberley but I bet its a bitch to fight a fire there.

Be it a dummy who dragged a chain behind his trailer or the dickhead who threw a cigarette butt into the grass along MoPac, track the latest human-fueled idiocy here.

...can't list all of them but here's a start.
Oh, and if you're curious what % contained means, I thought this was good...
"If you live in an area prone to wildfires, one phrase you always listen for is “the fire is (x) percent contained.” A 95% contained fire sounds a lot less scary than a 5% contained fire. “Containment” indicates how much of the fire perimeter has been surrounded by a control line that the fire will not progress across. Rather than describing how much of the entire fire has been put out, containment refers solely to the perimeter itself and its potential for growth. On the maps, a red color indicates uncontained fire perimeter, and black is contained fireline."

yeah, came in for lunch about 1 and said fuck going back out. Have a meeting at a cafe at 5 with terrible AC. Hoping the wind picks up so there is a breeze outdoors. That will be fun.
I just stepped outside to do some raking up dead leaves because, you know, wildfire fuel. Sucks today

For my money, I'd rather push just a little bit further and make it out to Santa Fe.
I'm working under my shaded back patio right now... was fine until noon... its starting to get a bit toasty now and the ceiling fan just feels like dog's breath.

Had a friend that did that crap. Dude's a Marine and can run for days.
Funny story - how he got into distance running, was going through a divorce, never wanted to go home
Yeah, the weeks leading up to Badwater, he was out there running in 100 degree temps... just gradually running loops through the hood. In fact, the very first time I met him, he was in the middle of running a 100 mile solo ultramarathon for charity in our hood (100 laps) because his ultramaraton was cancelled due to Covid.
