  1. I'm surprised how many posters are not familiar with summer camps. Its not like they only occur in Texas. My parents sent me to a YMCA camp when I was in elementary school. Camp Cullen. I hated it. Was just not for me. Definitely was not a "rich" camp as I remember a mix of everyone being there including once kid who had to get dialysis while camping. Olympia was across the lake from us and I think that was the "nicer" camp. They had one of those giant air bags like stuntmen use to jump into the lake. I went to boy scout camp at El Rancho Cima near the Devil's Backbone. That I liked better but camping still really wasn't my thing. At least that camp was beautiful - really pretty countryside and swimming in the Blanco (watch for the leeches). Our tents were mostly elevated up from the river... I want to say we were just below that ridge on the Blanco: AKA Ironically, the camp was severely damaged during the 2015 Memorial Day floods but was not yet in session because summer had not started. Just another example of a camp destroyed by flash flooding. Glad to say much of that will now be Hays County parkland (https://www.nature.org/en-us/about-us/where-we-work/united-states/texas/stories-in-texas/hays-park-bond/). You wouldn’t know it looking at the serene landscape now, but the 2015 Memorial Day weekend flood that devastated Wimberley also dealt a deathblow to the nearby historic Boy Scout camp, El Rancho Cima. Sweeping away entire structures along the banks of the Blanco River, the flood obliterated a camp that has been owned and operated by the Sam Houston Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America since 1954. https://www.statesman.com/story/news/2018/03/15/boy-scouts-selling-historic-el-rancho-cima/10005450007/
  2. Llano and Pedernales are flowing quite nicely right now. I think that has to have a quality impact on Travis. I could be wrong. The elevation increase is taking longer. Either way, we haven't seen numbers like this since April 2022!
  3. This is the rain event that won't quit. Oh, and Lindner needs to learn how to write Guadalupe
  4. Earlier this week I was talking about going out there on Sunday and then grabbing lunch at Hooper's. Maybe not
  5. One of our favorite spots on the Llano
  6. Everyone saying "my radar app is saying that this will..." need to understand that radar app doesn't know shit. Storms do what they want. While you can say 60% chance of rain or whatever, you can't predict exactly where that rain will fall. On a side note, aside from the 10 foot rise, forecasts are a potential 10-20 more feet in Travis.
  7. A lifetime ago, I used go to Paris/St. Cloud on business in the summer... imagine summer heatwaves while wearing a suit. It sucked. I was dying and, yes, even got to enjoy a taxi ride to Orly with a non-deodorant wearing coworker. Good times.
  8. With all due respect, you sound like an idiot I guess I missed that. There is so much to Paris than the two most popular tourist sites. Seriously. I mean, I hear that garbage about Rome. I've been there over a dozen times and there's still stuff I haven't seen (in part because I try to avoid the tourists). Now, granted, I might stop there for a few days than hop an overnighter to the Alps to avoid the crowds and the heat but that's me.
  9. Welp, I wonder how the states impacted by this tend to vote at the polls? TX, LA, MS, AL, FL, the Carolinas... they probably won't mind.
  10. Another straightforward red blend. $13..99
  11. The last time we went to Paris, we made it a point to take a day trip somewhere. Since most people were going to Versailles, we went to Chartres and loved it. Very peaceful - beautiful city.
  12. Man, I'm going to start unloading my cards. I have so many from my younger years. Anything good in them? Not sure... a bunch of 80s - 90s rookie cards but I'll probably starting eBaying a a bunch of .99 listings.
  13. Nah... Cracker Barrel
  14. Sorry... no rugby options for me. If there was a team here, it would be the Austin Googlymogglies or whatever they were called
  15. Found a really good rate at the Crown Plaza - https://www.ihg.com/crowneplaza/hotels/us/en/asheville/avlss/hoteldetail About 2 - 2.5 miles from downtown Asheville so easy enough. We'll be spending much of our time more in the hills and in other areas but this looks to be a good base.
  16. Just here to point out at the Astros are kicking ass and to say, y'all chill.
  17. Thanks? We'll probably go visit Hendersonville, too, which has personal meaning to me. Not sure how damaged that area might still be.
  18. Bump Taking my son to visit Western Carolina University and plan on staying in Asheville for two nights. Does it matter where you stay in town if you have a car? Also, any good idea on some off-the-beaten path hikes? Although he may want to visit the NP so I imagine we would go in through Cherokee.
  19. Tried this Friday at a wine tasting event. Easy drinking Albarino. I liked it. https://www.totalwine.com/wine/white-wine/albarino/bienbebido-pulpo-albarino/p/2126253957
  20. Hot Summer Nights lineup just dropped... I want to go see Pussy Gilette again. Plan on seeing Gus Baldwin & the Sketch, Nolan Potter's Nightmare Band, Queen Serene/Prehuman (99% sure they'll be on the same bill) and... finally... its time to see one of the best-named bands in Austin... Subpar Snatch (well, tied with Chancla Fight Club)
  21. One can only hope
  22. Except he tends to avoid the bottom of town lake
