What the fuck is wrong with you, Houston? Non-CR thread
One more note... I think I saw something like 26% of downtown Houston is parking where 15% of downtown Austin is parking. Surface lots are a blight.

What the fuck is wrong with you, Houston? Non-CR thread
I hate to say this because I used to say the same exact thing when I lived in Houston. Houston will never have a downtown that is alive. If I think about Houston versus Austin, the roadblocks are a lack of real residential living, limited street level restaurants and bars, more humidity than Austin, the lack of something as simple as the Town Lake Trail to keep people coming and hanging out downtown, fewer young people, etc. Not to mention that Houston has a massive tunnel system and so people would rather stay underground than walk from building the building outside. It just feels like it has too much stacked against it. There's a couple of spots here and there but man, it's not going to happen. Even if you had a great trail system off of the bayou, it would basically take you out of downtown. The draw isn't there and I don't see how you can manufacture it.

You should talk to Whitmire about it so he can remove a few bike lanes in response

I need to listen to Shooks again. Only saw them briefly at ACL. Is it talent or Sexton?

Why Can't I Quit You, Austin?
Nah, F that. I love it in Zilker, not next to the Cheesecake Factory.

Blastfurnace 2025
Not to mention that current forecasts show seasonal blast furnace, not record-breaking blast furnace. I'll allow it.

Why Can't I Quit You, Austin?
Yeah it does. We were up close on the right hand side, about even with the sound booth. Great show and once the sun went down, it was really nice.

I will say, I like the barricade approach that they've taken. I'm not an "Old Austin" vs "New Austin" person in that I liked Austin then and I liked it now. That said, when I was at UT, 6th street had traffic flowing on it and it was fine... plenty of idiocy but not as bad as when they shut down the street to pedestrians. So, I don't mind this move to make it more permanent. Bars will adapt. Now, if we could only resurrect the King of 6th Street

Yeah, I tend to keep my lawn longish in the summer so that the blades shade the roots. I don't think I can do that anymore. On a side note, just checking... it is 11:25 AM on August 4th and this is the closest weather station? Amazing.

I'd like to go out there one of these weekends. I fee like I'm "too late" but at the same time I know the work will be there for a very long time. What's the best way to do this? Its been almost 8 years since Harvey... when I go back to my old hood I see a few houses/lots that still haven't recovered so I know people will need help for a long time.- Blastfurnace 2025
We're at 5+ years now since returning to Austin from Houston. If there's one thing I've noticed is that the shade matters so much here and at times can be relatively tolerable even when it feels like the depths of hades in the sun. The humidity difference matters. Plus this morning it was down to 71 in the morning - felt reasonable. I am not complaining about this summer. Reminder of Mabry in 2023...- Why Can't I Quit You, Austin?
Kind of LOL. I mean it's soooort of try but moreso in the summer. Plus we do get a lot of tourists. https://www.mysanantonio.com/lifestyle/article/no-one-works-in-austin-texas-20797657.php "If I go anywhere downtown during anytime of the day, it's always busy and I'm just always thinking to myself what do these people do for work? I'm so curious," @kodakkammer said. "...I love Austin. This city never works but does sleep."- 2025 Thread of the Rains
Yup. Nearly 2" of rain.- Why Can't I Quit You, Austin?
Yeah, bitching is over there... But I also wonder if some retail spaces are sitting empty because the owner of said property is just sitting on it. How much is the Chuy's paying in property taxes for zero revenue on the Shady Grove location?- Sports Card Collecting
I hear you but there just sitting there taking up space.- Tariff wars, they have began
