  1. My buddy in Bradenton sent me a picture of the anticipated track overlaid with his house location.
  2. Thankful my friend in Bradenton finally GTFO. I suspect a lot of us were on his ass for staying there with his family.
  3. I'm case you want to catch BALTHVS before the weekend...
  4. Exactly it... the analysis of what would have happened to Houston had Rita hit, specifically in the ship channel, is exceedingly frightening. https://archive.ph/bRZ6R#selection-2413.0-2429.83 Local hurricane experts agree that a violent storm surge in the channel of at least 26 feet—a reasonable estimate for a category 4 storm that hits Galveston directly—would initially inundate densely populated, low-lying communities on the western half of Galveston Bay. Debris from those communities would then combine with thousands of shipping containers in the area, forming a destructive wall of steel and wood that would slam into thousands of chemical and crude oil storage tanks. Many tanks would be broken open by the battering ram of debris, while others would be ripped from their foundations by the water, releasing their deadly contents. A detailed inventory of hazardous chemicals around the Ship Channel remains difficult to come by, thanks to a Texas law that restricts public disclosure of information that could be utilized by terrorists. However, a 2016 Houston Chronicle investigation of the area’s dangerous chemicals revealed that communities near the Ship Channel live in close proximity to toxic substances, such as silane gas, methyl mercaptan, hydrofluoric acid, sodium sulfide, and ammonia. On at least three occasions, the investigation found, those substances have been released, killing workers and endangering nearby residents. The paper has also catalogued more than one hundred toxic releases during Hurricane Harvey alone, most of them from Houston’s petrochemical corridor.
  5. I remember seeing that dude at 3:06
  6. We have a friend in Bradenton and I'm texting him that he has to make his own decision but if he gas and supplies, he needs to GTFO. He would have a place to stay in Wellington on the other side... I hope he packs up and goes while there's time.
  7. To be honest, I think the Amex stage set up sucks ass. The VIP section is massive so even if you are "close" (we were two people back from the railing on Khruangbin), you are far away from the stage. The area is narrower, in general and it is flat whereas the Honda stage has a smaller VIP section and there are sections where slight contour can make for a better view unless you are too close down towards Miller Lite. I do lover how Miller Lite makes it easy to get close if you want or you can get a good view from the hill towards Miller Lite. This was Jungle from the hill but, like I said, if I go this Saturday my ass will be on the rail... Wide angle shot but you can see what I mean on Amex and Khruangbin. Half of the people in VIP are yappers guzzling free drinks. Give me the Tito's rail all day long... Also, more Geese, please!
  8. Yup... and @dcar00 alluded to it, as well. We saw about 10 minutes of the Pretty Lights set and the made our way down to Dua because my wife really wanted to see Dua Lipa over PL. We made our way past the Tito's tent, past the Amex lounge and over to one of the bar/VIP sections on the left of the stage. It was impossible to move. At one point our area started getting more and more jostled and we decided, "F this, let's go way back". We tried to make our way back and it was so full of people... lots of pushing and shoving and not much you could do. It was very uncomfortable. If there's one thing I've started learning during these insane shows is that sometimes it is impossible to move in the flow/lanes on the edges and they get really backed up... often because you hit a road block when there is a line for something like the refreshment stations. Sometimes the easier thing to do is go straight towards the center and zig zag your way through and back. I also think the people who build encampments with chairs and blankets and all kinds of crap make things harder. F chairs... sorry. Get them to the side, not the middle. That said, I may go back this weekend to go see Jungle again. This time, if I go, I'm going to get to the rail.
  9. Can't imagine it is that now
  10. Well you just pointed out You don't know who they are. In the EDM world, they are pretty big. Last year was ODESZA vs Hozier. I think you just ran into the situation where you literally had a massive pop star with no shows in the US You so everyone was there. You know a bigger star would not have wanted to go against Dua.
  11. "We're here to help the common man, just like us!"
  12. Y'all, this sucks.
  13. Yup. Kim Ogg. Democrats didn't like her but Republicans haaaaated her... badly! But, hey, now she's on their team. LOL. Check out her favorability rating...
  14. Theo is interesting because it sounds like he is really trying to talk to someone and the conversation can flow well but other times he sounds really dense and uninformed. BUT he doesn't seem to have overwhelming opinions in the sense that he will listen to someone explain themselves so that his listeners can hear the perspective. I though Cuban did really well... someone who seems to be excellent at being empathetic but then taking the conversation back to his points, even if they run counter to Theo.
  15. I have to give the guy credit... he seemed to have a good personality and vibe. I can't say it was the greatest of shows but the guy was put into a pretty awkward situation. My wife and her friends were way up on Chappell Roan and I just wasn't that interested, primarily because I had gone 100% for all three days so I wandered over to San Holo (which was packed) and then to catch a bit of his set. So quiet back there. Yesterday I really enjoyed Glass Beams... then caught a bit of Bakar, half of the Myles Smith set then Cannons while our friends waited for Chappell Roan... over to San Holo then Dom Dolla (amazing DJ set) and Tyler the Creator. Geese turned out to be one of my big "never heard this band but they kick ass" surprises. The Criticals were good.. BALTHVS was great and I may go back to Antone's to see them this week. Still Woozy was meh. Khurangbin was awesome although the Khruangbin / BALTHVS similarities are weird (yes, we know who was first) despite BALTHVS having a harder, more psychedelic sound. Jungle was one of the best shows of the weekend. Then we caught a bit of Pretty Lights before going to Dua. Not kidding but 95% of the festival was at Dua with 5% at Pretty Lights. People talk about the Chappell Roan crowd but Dua was bigger. Yeah... I'm working backwards... Enjoyed Saint Cecilia. Good to see a band really getting their start. Sir Chloe has a good sound... I like her music. She's a little offputting just in her vibe. Mannequin Pussy one of the best shows of the weekend - so so good! Foster the People put on a fantastic show, Elderbrook was good but not mindblowing... I don't know... and then Porter Robinson was better than I expected. By that point on Monday, our son was whining incessantly and we left before Blink or Stapleton. I got a full 3 days in though... it was a great weekend! Saw bits and pieces of Britney Davis, PawPaw Rod, Benson Boone, Teddy Swims
  16. If you like them, you'll love Restless Leg Syndrome
  17. Man this sounds familiar... https://ehs.org.uk/fascistville-mussolinis-new-towns-and-the-persistence-of-neo-fascism/ At least the Italians used some forward-thinking architects. I have two guesses on what Dolan will use as his inspiration... Also - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_for_Births
  18. The last minute or so is awesome... I mean, its all good!
  19. Was talking to business partners in the UK and the topic of the VP debates came up. I mentioned that it was rather dry and boring but they said that even in the UK, they had heard about the "I thought you weren't going to fact check me" comment. LOL.
  20. I love that footage of Barton Springs Pool. That in and of itself makes Austin the best city in Texas. Fight me.
  21. I kind of like Paris in the wintertime... it is a very winter-friendly city to me. Have been there during cold months before and I liked it. My suggested itinerary... Then buy a Chamonix Unlimited pass for 6 days and ski up and down the valley. Done.
  22. Yeah I feel like YouTube TV sometimes makes it more challenging... trying to remember if I had an easier time using apps (like the ESPN app) or something similar. If you use Nord (my choice), here are the NA server locations below. I will connect to Italy to watch Italian TV and soccer games sometimes.
  23. Never given to a big charity have you? "Oh, I like charity... let me send them $25" Charity proceeds to spend $50 sending me mailers asking for more.
  24. If that's a pro-REM song, you're losing your case. That song sucks.
