  1. Man, I have no idea how to comprehend this. We had to deal with Harvey and what that did to our community but in comparison, it wasn't a hard effort for the community to bounce back. Well, no, it was hard. It wasn't THIS hard. Even today, you can see the scars of Harvey but you can also pretend it never happened... the trees are still there, the landscape hasn't really changed. Your will be different but your community will find a way to bounce back. It may be hard to fathom now but it will happen. Prayers to you, my friend.
  2. We'll have a car when staying in Punalu'u so I'm sure we'll head over to the north shore quite a bit. May also pack a couple of bodyboards and fins and bring them with me instead of renting to visit Makapuu and Sandy Beach. But honestly, my knowledge of the island is limited. Plan on hiking quite a bit, though.
  3. I'd be curious. Aside from the Big Island we have 3 nights in Waikiki near the Zoo and 4 nights in Punalu'u
  4. Damn you ...
  5. OK... trip fully booked. Here's what we've got - 7 nights in Oahu, 6 nights in the Big Island. Will figure out the details later. Have a Hawaiian friend giving me insight on Oahu and a friend who just sold her house in Waikoloa giving me insight on the Big Island... Fly into Honolulu, Oahu Waikiki (3 nights) - no car car pickup Punaluu (4 nights) Honolulu to Hilo Big Island - Hawaii pick up car at Hilo Airport Hilo, Hawaii (2 nights) Volcano (1 night) Kailua (3 nights) Fly out of Kona
  6. That's great - you're lucky to have that so close by
  7. Personally hate HLSR shows but Charley Crockett is great!
  8. Bastages opened West Basin in Taos today
  9. I mean, they may as well hang on to the plans for now... when is the show?
  10. I know... hard to believe. Psychedelic Furs were great that night - sounded really good. Lead singer and bass player, his brother, are still in the band. Keyboard player used to be with Information Society. The banter inbetween songs felt more like Chuck-e-Cheese animatronic banter but otherwise the performances were good.
  11. Uh, that makes sense as being a totally kick ass lineup, aside from GnR. 1988 me and 2025 me both would have loved it. That said, the worst I can think of was Evan Dando, lead singer of the Lemonheads, opening for the Psychedelic Furs in 2023 at ACL Live. He was all over the place... seemed drunk or high (or both) and kept screwing around with two different microphones. Would occasionally mumble between songs and I don't even think he played his biggest Lemonheads or maybe he did and you couldn't tell. At the end, he mumbled something, took off his coat and jumped over the rail and into the audience, never to return. Later in the Psychedelic Furs concert, a friend of mine sent me a picture of he and his wife drinking with Evan on the concourse.
  12. I just checked a house in Lost Creek and it has that house at 3/10 and ours at 4/10. About to call BS. Also, my brother's house is lower than ours and, dude, nope.

  15. welp... West Austin better start investing in fire spooge or something
  16. Fontaines DC is great. Bought tickets to Girl and Girl in April. Need to pick up COIN tickets for February, I think. Also looking to buy tickets one of the Sips and Sounds shows by SXSW. Little mini-festival at Auditorium Shores. This one is more for my wife. Yeah, that Armadillo/Waterloo article was weird. I will say this... I'm glad that's who bought Waterloo. Their pop-up on South Congress was great... it was a constant showcase of local musicians and merch profits went to local artists. I think they donated something like $100K. That's the right people to buy Waterloo. New location will have better space for live music. Speaking of Waterloo...
  17. It was originally purchased for my wife when we were pregnant with our first son. It was used with only 3,000 miles and at the time we lived in Houston and it was her primary car so we just didn't see the need. Obviously I understand the mistake now. That's not going to stop me from taking it into some different situations within reason. I couldn't do anything about it being a real real drive vehicle which is why I changed tires that can handle winter weather. I also put some extra weight in the back in case we needed it but man it was dry so it was just not an issue.
  18. Took my FJ Cruiser to Taos for a quick ski trip... managed to average around 17 measly mpg traveling typically 5-10 mph over speed limit with a headwind there and a cross-wind coming back. FJ's love to be around 70 and I was usually between 75-85. Anyway, actually a pretty comfortable road trip vehicle. Even though its a RWD (I know, I know) I had some new Three Peak Mountain Snowflake tires mounted and brought a set of chains. Didn't need either. Anyway, had it since 2007... really really wish it was 4 x 4.
