I don’t think there is a dedicated Belgium thread, and I spent a week there earlier this month, so figured I’d make a thread. This was kid-free trip with the wife to drink Belgian beer, eat Belgian food, and check out some European Christmas markets. Flew Houston to Chicago to Brussels, arriving Friday morning. Took train from airport to Bruxelles Central Station and walked about 1/4 mile to check into Hotel Agora Bruxelles Grand Place. Hotel is about 2 short blocks from the Grand Place, which is cool to look at, but not much to do there other than check out the Christmas light show at night. We avoided the tourist trap cafes surrounding it. After checking in, we walked through Grand Place and then had lunch at a cheese & wine shop called La Fruitiere, followed by a Taras Boulba and Drie Fonteinen Kriek at Moeder Lambic, an absolute must-visit beer bar. Next stop was Cantillon, where we did the self-guided tour, followed by tasting in their little taproom. Back to hotel to nap and then set out again to have a couple beers at Brussels Beer Project before dinner. BBP is like a modern American taproom focusing on small batch beers, including hazy IPAs. Beers were good, but not what I travelled to Belgium for. Croquettes, mussels, and frites at La Marre and then some quads at Poechenellekelder, an awesome old beer bar with walls covered in creepy marionettes. will follow up with much more
