  1. Got my eye on you, Iglesias. Good save here. https://amp.tmz.com/2023/06/30/gabriel-iglesias-fluffy-private-jet-emergency-landing-plane-north-carolina/
  2. That's a mistake tbh. Some of it like Dreamland is pretty cliche but there are several places that are as good or better than anywhere else.
  3. If you want BBQ check out Hoo's Q & Brew.

    Mad Men

This thread has caused me to sign up for AMC+ and I’m now going through my favorite episodes. Roger losing Lucky Strike. Merger with PPL. Pete losing Vicks after catching his FIL at the whore house. The Chevy pitch. Love this show.

    Tipping

I’ve had this happen to me too and I’ve started stashing $1 and $5 bills in the center consoles of both our vehicles…and then try like hell to remember when I park at the airport to throw at least $10-20 in small bills to cover the shuttle drivers and/or valets…at least for the first couple legs to give me time to have the hotel break a larger bill.

    Tipping

My rule of thumb on those machines is: If nobody is there, no tip. If someone is there doing something for me, at any level, I ask them if they personally get the tips. If they say yes, I leave a commensurate amount depending on what I’m buying or where I’m at. Other rules of thumb: Bartenders at my regular places get tipped more. As said previously, “how quickly do you want your next beer.” It’s nice showing up on a busy Friday night and they make your drink and hand to you and leave other people puzzled who have been standing there 5 mins or more. Restaraunts/Bars where you hang out for a while? Tip based on the expected turn rates and average tabs for the table. So if you sit at a table for 3 hours and prevented the waitress from serving three separate groups in that time, don’t be a dick and tip her maybe 3x. Sometimes even giving a $20 upfront and telling them you’ll be hanging out a while can go a long way.
  7. Had tickets and sold them…wife insisted we go to Portugal instead though tbh I was cool with that. Next year I’ll go to Troon for 2 days, and just not invite her to begin with.
  8. When Jerry runs off Dr. Sitarides from Krugers office, Kramer is there in his Butchers coat watching in a certain manner of disbelief, Kruger walks up and says "Heyyy, George...heyyy, Doc...we doing the screening in here?" And then they just roll into it. This show has more than most but this scene in particular is just as good as sitcom TV can get for me.
  9. I would say something in between either of these versions.
  10. The comments around the reporter who asked about recovering the bodies are pretty good. So far the one that got me the most was "get this tomato out of the tomato soup."
  11. Captain, sonar, we’ve just been overflown by a low altitude, multi-engine turbo prop.
  12. Exactly. Obviously these submarine people never heard of Apollo 1.
  13. Yep, maybe even closer to 105 knots upon closer inspection of the data. V1 for that type I believe is around 120knots minimum...but can be as high as 140knots depending on conditions.
  14. Well, OP has a right to be pissed as fuck about what happened last week. His daughter’s flight (Airbus A320) lined up and commenced takeoff from runway 26L in Atlanta and moments before it achieved V1, another Delta Airbus A350 (tail N504DN) being towed/ferried, temporarily crossed onto the same runway. From where I’m sitting it appears to be an ATC issue but there def needs to be an investigation into this. I would guess the tow driver is most likely at fault as I just can’t see two pilots taking off without clearance.
  15. I quit asking. I’m genuinely curious how badly ATC fucked up.
  16. Chase sapphire reserve. Your daughter would have gotten paid some $$$ given the circumstances.
  17. How deep does this tourist sub go? “Oh, she’ll go all the way to the bottom if we don’t stop her.”
  18. I unfortunately see that a lot…the stressful situations get people flustered in the moment and they make decisions in a rush and are at the mercy of gate agents who might not care. As you say, she likely realizes it now, and that’s a good thing for next time.
  19. Gonna go ahead and disagree with you there that the carriers are “cutting corners” on safety. As you allude to we’re at almost 23 years since the last mainline carrier had a “crash”…AA 587 if I recall correctly in October 2001. Some regional carriers had crashes between then and 2009 but there’s been nothing since then. Southwest of course had the incident in 2018/2019 were an uncontained engine failure caused that poor woman from New Mexico to die, but the plane obviously landed safely. IMO I wouldn’t say anything is in a state of “rapid decline” but certainly there are areas that need more attention, especially with air traffic volumes now exceeding pre-pandemic levels. Hopefully congress and/or the FAA get some improvements in place soon so we don’t have to experience a crash first.
  20. Post that flight number from Friday night when you can. I’m eager to see just how close things got. FR24 records everything so it’s easy to go back and look.
  21. You all using the Flighty app? Or FR24? Both are a requirement for me at this point. Flighty tracks for possible connection issues, follows your plane for the ~24 hours before your flight and knows shit when it’s filed and sometimes even before the airline staff even know.
