  1. What is the best DNA kit/testing company? I have done zero research on this, but I'm intrigued.
  2. Anyone hear any rumors about CVX buying OXY?
  3. Ok so maybe a little longer, but generally yes, from what I understand, you could likely leave your office in the Galleria roughly 30 minutes prior to HST train leaving the station. The BRT trains don't stop for traffic or stoplights so call it 10-15 minutes to get the train station. Walk straight to your train get on it and in 90 minutes you're in Dallas doing Dallas things.
  4. Something that y'all may have covered, but I haven't seen is the price. They want the price to be about 80% of an plane ticket for the same route so it won't be cheap, but it will be cheaper/faster/easier than flying.
  5. For those in Houston complaining about the lack of "last mile" public transport options from the terminal, Metro has a plan that addresses this (and a bunch of other stuff) that we get vote on in November. There will be BRT lines going from the terminal at the northwest mall to the CBD. The Galleria BRT lines will terminate there as well. So, if you're traveling to Houston from Dallas, when you arrive, you will be able jump on a BRT which will leave every 5 minutes and for $2.50 get whisked away to one of the two largest business districts in the city. Or alternatively, from your office in the Galleria to Dallas in about 2 hours maybe slightly longer from the CBD. https://www.metronext.org/assets/pdfs/plan-guide.pdf?v=1.002
  6. Check this out: http://rainfall.dd6.org/maps.html One of the gauges shows 34 inches in the last 24 hours. 42 inches in the last 72.
  7. And that is precisely why I built my house on pier and beam about 20 inches above the harvey flood line in my hood. Almost flooded during Memorial Day and tax day floods. Don't tell me Harvey won't happen again. It can and will happen again. Just a matter of time.
  8. I have been skimming through your back and forth with other posters. It appears your searching for confirmation bias to back up your real issue; that this effects your land. This is a legit argument. You should stick to that and quit with all your other bullshit.
  9. Yeah, Iran is a long ways away from there so it couldn't possibly have been them.
  10. I know. I wish I hadn't opened this thread. It wasn't on my radar. It's all I'm going to hear on Saturday night.
  11. Blame it on prohibition and an unregulated black market.
  12. I'm driving to Crested Butte on Friday for a week in the mountains. Does anyone have some recommendations for breweries/bottle shops to hit up in Gunnison County?
  13. If Beto wasn't on the ticket, then the blue wave straight ticket lever doesn't get pulled nearly as much and Ed Emmet is still in office.
  14. Hello there - a few questions for the class here. Just got my love letter from HCAD this week. We flooded during Harvey. Tore that bitch down and rebuilt. We moved in in March. The fully assessed a house for 4600+ SF as of January 1. The house didn't even have bricks on 1/1/19 and is about 3600 SF. Where the fuck do they get that number? If they house wasn't built nor in a livable condition on 1/1/19, then they can only assess the land, correct? I'm going to protest this myself as I have had terrible luck hiring companies to do so in the past, but looking for some guidance on the above questions. I used Protax in the past and they did jack shit. Last year the settled at the informal hearing (I'm still SMDH about that) when HCAD gave no reduction in land value in 2018 vs 2017 (post vs pre Harvey) and there were numerous contiguous properties on the market for less than the assessed value.
  15. I think Turner has been one of the best Mayor's Houston has had in a long time. I haven't heard very many complaints about him outside of this thread. He did an excellent job handling the harvey crisis and he generally seems pragmatic in his decision making. I hope he gets re-elected over the ambulance chasing attorney. RE Trash: When I moved back into my house after Harvey, my new Trashcan came in about one week. Took a couple months for the recycle bin, but otherwise there are no issues with regular trash service. I take the can out every monday. When I come home from work, it's empty. What's not to liek? This thread is the first I have heard of anyone complaining about trash service. I live in the Memorial area as well.
  16. Next time buy her some flank steak or some cheap cut if it's going to be well done.
  17. Same. We've been a couple of times and it's excellent. No wait. I'm hoping they'll get their uber eats act together so we can have it delivered. NOTE: they don't have their liquor license so it's BYOB.
  18. 2019 getting off to a good start.
  19. He was actually from Houston. Story went quiet because the boat driver was dead. And the family (very wealthy with an interesting history google Maxxam inc.) wrote a huge check to the family of the young lady who died. Really sad deal.
  20. I think the public outcry was primarily about "Justice for Jasmine". i.e. the killer was on the loose and they didn't want him getting away with literal murder. Most of the examples cited as parallels in this thread ,the murderer was immediately know.
  21. Wife and I went to Indianola for an early NYE dinner. We had high expectations given Coltivare awesomeness. I would say it is good not great. Part of the issue was service. I asked the waiter if he wanted us to order all at once or should we order as we go. He said he would be happy to course it out for us, but everything came out super fast. A $200+ meal that should have lasted 90 minutes was done in 30. The menu is kinda like they're trying to be UB Preserve, but not as creative/ethnic. Given the number of new spots out there we've haven't tried, it will be a while before we go back. Eunice is great btw. Very surprisingly cool atmosphere given that it's in an office building. Solid food/service at the bar. Will def be going back.
  22. What part of town is this nest? We see a pair of bald eagles regularly on Buffalo Bayou at Gessner and have been wondering if they have a nest close by. They showed up right after Harvey and have been in the area since.
