  1. I recently heard her use the phrase “chester drawers” to refer to a dresser, or what a normal person might call a chest of drawers. Even after I lovingly explained how wrong and stupid that is, she persists in thinking that is an acceptable phrase to use in front of other adult human beings. Unbelievable.
  2. Just tried to order on the app and couldn’t get damn near anything. Even with just a standard burger I couldn’t even order a shake. What a bunch of bullshit.
  3. Seared the larger chunks of meat and browned the ground beef in a cast iron separately and browned the onions and garlic as well. It all goes into the big cast iron pot fully cooked with the tomatoes and spices to then smoke and meld all day.
  4. In the smoker at 250 for 8 hours. Damn good.
  5. Nothing to write home about from what I’ve been seeing lately. Every bourbon I saw was very pedestrian. I don’t drink much scotch so not sure if the quality was actually higher, but the selection seemed to be way better in that regard.
  6. Perfectly fair point. I’m out of the country for a few weeks and just happened to see it in that photo of potential employee gifts. I was bored and curious with no current ability to open it so I figured I’d see what you fine gentlemen thought of it.
  7. I was gifted a bottle of Stellum recently, but I’ve never heard of it. Any good or any notes on it?
  8. Picks with friends is my favorite segment of the week.
  9. At what age do the kids actually get into and appreciate this? I’ve tried it for my 2.5 year old and he could care less. I think maybe he doesn’t get it or has trouble understanding their accents. All he wants is Paw Patrol and it’s killing me. I’m trying to push some other stuff for variety but nothing else sticks.
  10. Yes, having the government be bound by Justice and the defense being bound by zealously representing the accused has worked just fine for a couple hundred years. It might not be perfect, but it’s the best system that exists.
  11. I actually have to agree with Sack here, begrudgingly so. Prosecutors take an oath that other lawyers do not. They are sworn to uphold that oath and "to see that justice is done." Having done that job for a decade and now being on the other side, I do know that "justice" is not always defined by everyone the same way...but the system is set up so that a prosecutor is not supposed to seek a conviction on every case and at all costs. Proving the case beyond a reasonable doubt is the job if that's what they believe justice demands, but dismissing the case or reducing it to a lesser charge is also the job if that's what they believe best serves the interest of justice on any given case.
  12. Are you saying its your understanding that in Texas the jury instructions are read after closing arguments are made? Because that is not the case. I only practice criminal law so I can't speak to civil jury trials, but the judge always reads the jury instructions after we have conferenced and agreed on them but right before closing arguments. The last thing the jury hears are the closings before they go back to to deliberate. The State gets to argue first and last while the defense argues second, but not last. The last the thing the jurors hear before they go back in the room is the last thing the prosecutor says.
  13. They must be married women.
  14. Yes, obviously no one here likes child rapists. But you keep circling back to this as if it somehow justifies KR’s actions. That’s your great point? KR didn’t know his history and it had nothing to do with his decision to pull the trigger. And if he had, it still wouldn’t be justified. He needs to be prosecuted and punished by the State for those crimes. The death penalty is not a legal punishment for rape, child or otherwise. Using this as your reason for supporting the shooting only furthers the point that in and of itself it wasn’t justified. Because if the victim had been pure and innocent you wouldn’t have an argument to make.
  15. Sorry, I think I was unclear. I live up in Plano and work in McKinney/Plano most days. Every few weeks I have to go down to the Dallas Courthouses and I’m looking for good lunch spots down there on those days.
  16. I work mostly in McKinney and Plano.
  17. What time do I need to show up at Cattleack tomorrow to get lunch at a reasonable time without an hour wait?
  18. I’d like to renew this thread post covid. I’m in Dallas proper once every couple of weeks for work and am often looking for lunch places. Any suggestions for good weekday lunch spots? Solo or with associates, drinking and not.
  19. My buddy went to TCU and was rushing Klein’s fraternity in ‘99 or so. He brought a date to one of their party’s one night and Klein ended up taking her home and banging her. Buddy did not join their fraternity. Also…Brendan Fraser was pretty great in “Condor” a little known but good series based on Three Days of the Condor.
  20. That dude is just a phenomenal actor. I’ll actively seek out stuff he is in.
