It's a tale as old as time!
Made a bad HC hire, who hired a bad initial staff including a ton of people with OU ties, failed the S&C program with that hire, then then didn't move on from any of them in a timely manner. That staff made bad initial recruiting evals, didn't format the scheme to match or maximize the players they had on either side of the ball, made bad transfer portal evals, had some less than ideal injury luck, and then didn't make coaching staff changes until they absolutely had to.
That's without considering that they ran off a heisman finalist QB for a five star redshirt freshman QB, then benched that five star guy for another freshman QB like three games into the season, then instead of sticking with that guy went back to the first guy, then spent a ton hiring offensive coaches to try to get a fourth QB in the portal.
All while their biggest historical rival loaded up an NIL death star, started developing talent, maximized scheme, made good coaching hires, got lucky with a few evals, won a conf championship, played for another, and made it to back to back CFPs.
If Venables makes it through the bye next year it's going to be an absolutele miracle. Texas / @SCar / Ole Miss / @Tenn is a brutal stretch.
There's no quick turnaround for them. They are going to be in the same boat Texas was post Charlie Strong, unless they can convince Nick Saban to come back to coaching.
