  1. With the weather hopefully turning less nucular and with me trending towards the obsession end of the golf obsession - revulsion spectrum, I hereby move for the Second Decennial One-Club Open at Hancock
  2. I witnessed one of the strangest things I've ever seen on a golf course yesterday. To set the scene, I walked on Lions around 3:30 and got paired with a couple other guys. We're on 16, the Hogan Hole, playing our approaches up to the green from the landing area short of the water. One of the dudes pushes his shot right, and as we are watching it fade right of green and towards the hillside, these two hayseeds pull up in a cart out of the woods left of the 12th green, probably halfway up the hillside and nowhere near where a cart should be. The dude who hit the shot hollers fore just as the passenger who's stepped out ahead goes to duck for cover. Now, I'd witnessed some dumbass hayseed behavior in carts earlier so I was already in the red, and I start loudly admonishing them from afar and questioning all of the decisions that led them to drive up the hill instead of walking the their dumb asses fifteen yards into the woods. The ball lands on the hillside about three feet from their cart, and bounces in. The admonishments continued. They drive off with the ball, scurried off 12 and over to the par three before any of us had a chance to process what we'd just witnessed. We just stood there half gobsmacked, half laughing uncontrollably oh and also they'd sanded the greens like three minutes prior, and Groundskeeper was out there turning on sprinklers on folks throughout the afternoon Muni gonna muni
  3. be a single and just show up otherwise be quick on the draw 14 days out or whatever that window is or play sharpstown for $15
  4. You can take my 3i when you pry it from my cold dead hands. My keep it low, rescue from the woods club. Maybe you can take it when I learn to better avoid the woods though. Why just this monday I banana-balled my second to reach the 18th at sharpstown in two from the forest, setting up the inevitable three putt par I did just snag a Titleist 904f 19 degree five wood from goodwill with a decent accra shaft for 15 bucks so that is going along for the long walk today at el dorado
  5. I have been practicing a lot lately, some decent rounds with a few stinkers mixed in. Practice sessions on the launch monitor have been encouraging. All this to say we played Canyon Springs last week for our fantasy draft weekend and I carded a smooth 113. Lost 11 balls (found 22 tho). There were times I couldn’t even remember how to hit the ball. Haven’t seen rough that ridiculous since Ferry Point in NYC. Hopefully tomorrow’s return to Lions resets things a bit
  6. The jagoff who was mouthing off to the waitress at hooters a couple weeks ago said he stopped smoking weed 30 days prior because ICE requires no weed for the prior 90
  7. It is currently raining
  8. Notsuoh remains one of the best bars in Texas, if not the world
  9. Looking west/southwest from the arboretum, there is a nice localized microburst that appears to be hitting in just the right spot
  10. I keep saying he’s missing a prime opportunity to reopen Ellis Island. Just this time, y’know, bring em in through the back door and out the front
  11. Anyone have a recommendation for a fee-based financial planner? Prefer Austin but Houston works too. Just looking for someone to take a look at what we’re doing and offer suggestions. Not looking for someone hawking life insurance
  12. Movies? Are there any TV: Derry Girls, Detroiters, ITYSL
  13. Not for nothing but the most recent of these films came out 16 years ago
  14. Mini-train rolling across the highland lakes rn LCRA hydromet nerds awaken!
  15. Lol I feel seen. I've been playing okay since picking up the clubs again a few months ago. Really striking the ball well, but losing a lot of strokes to missed GIRs and bad chipping mistakes. Overall though, it's been encouraging. Walked on at Lions Sunday morning at 0730 and proceeded to card five 7s in row. Somewhere along the way, I started spraying wedges just blade open wide right. On 5, I wound up right of the trees, tried to play a mostly conservative pitch out to the fairway, hit a tree and wound up twenty yards backwards. Next shot, hit another tree. Third shot, beautiful punch out to 90 yards... I chalk it up to getting paired with this older dude who had just enough Dad energy to put the thought of my old man in my head, and I always played terribly around him. Golf. Surly Golf (TM)
  16. The 5th amendment is made applicable to the states via the [snaps several times and points crooked finger] conduit of the 14th amendment due process clause Iykyk
  17. It’s a great film although it is clunky and Elliot Gould is such a weirdo you almost fee like you’re uneasily stumbling through it with him. I haven’t read any of the books so don’t know how faithful it is. Marlowe smokes a lot. I dig the theme song, and how Altman weaves it into the movie in a multitude of ways. “This is someone I love” was quite a scene. Cameo towards the end one of the best ever.
  18. Continually forgetting how dangerous it is to watch this show while eating
  19. not even in the same league. Breaking Bad / Sopranos were great television shows. The Wire is the highest art ever developed for the television medium. Shakespeare vs. Andrew Lloyd Weber Let us know when the rewatch begins
  20. I saw a reel of a dude jumping off paleface recently. ymmv
