  1. Leach and Briles needed a system that would maximize limited talent. Not that Stroh is talented, but imagine giving him more space to defend. On the flip side, imagine voluntarily giving Hill and Simmons more space to work with. Tech will probably look great against equal or lesser talent, make the playoff, and lose by 30 to OSU.
  2. Alabama, Arkansas, Louisiana, and Mississippi are in the top 5 in highest obesity rates so I'd say yes, man boobs are part of SEC culture.
  3. After the first 10 minutes I thought Florida was going to lose by 40, but they didn't give up and looked like the better team for stretches. Of course, Miami helped with that. Carson Beck has to be the most overpaid player in college football.
  4. The offense is broken - Arch is a mess, the o-line is a mess, Wingo has issues. That whole side of the ball needs to be overhauled. I doubt it happens, but after the season, Sark needs to fire Milwee and Flood and bring in an OC to call plays and coach QBs.
  5. I thought Hutson was at least as bad as Stroh against SJSU. Hutson looks more coordinated, but they were similarly effective. I still don't even understand what Hutson and Stroh were doing on the play where Campbell was called for holding on the pass to Livingstone.
  6. I don't know. You are underrating Kelly's ability to shit the bed. Can Napier shit the bed more? Absolutely. I wouldn't be surprised to see either team lose by three scores.
  7. Are we sure LSU's defense is that much better? Clemson's offense is bad.
  8. The running game wasn't all that great against Michigan either. Ryan Wingo had a 55 yard end-around. The rest of the team combined for 88 yards and under 3 yards a carry.
  9. I'm less worried about Arch than the bipolar offense, 100 yards in penalties, and Wingo having an invisible force field around him. Focus on the process instead of results and this game felt like some of those late Mack era games against teams like Rice that looked good on paper, but had some extended ugly stretches. It's never good when an announcer says something like, "[SJSU/Rice/Wyoming/fill in the cupcake] is surprisingly physical."
  10. I thought the same. I figured they would take a step back, but still be really good. Or not. This has a Rich Rod at Michigan vibe.
  11. Last year, teams could drop 7, sometimes 8, into coverage and still control the run game. This was an improvement. Honestly, I was wondering how good OSU's line is. I'll be curious to see how they do against the rest of their schedule.
  12. I wouldn't read too much into Arch's mechanics based on one game - he looked fine last year so this game may have just been nerves. Sark's red zone issues are a different story.
  13. Sark is an elite head coach. Easily top 5 and I'd argue top 3. He's virtually irreplaceable as a head coach. As a play caller, there are probably a couple dozen guys he could hire that would call plays as well as he has at Texas. First quarter Sark is an absolute wizard. Third quarter Sark is... Shawn Watson. Sark could win multiple championships with 80 percent of the offensive wizardry and none of the Shawn Watson.
  14. I thought the o-line looked good. Run and pass blocking were better than expected considering the competition and environment.
  15. I don't remember the last time we had a low of 74. Don't be surprised when the Texas players come out in parkas.
  16. FIFY and my 12 year old daughter. We got diverted there a couple of years ago when Southwest melted down. After we gave up hope of catching a flight to literally anywhere else, we spent Christmas Eve at one of the airport hotels. It was 4 degrees and our coats were in our checked bags in some other state. She didn't have any presents the next morning, but Santa did leave some pop-tarts in her dirty socks. Needless to say, she's not a fan of Columbus or really anywhere even remotely close to Ohio.
  17. Talk of a Heisman is over doing it, but I expect Reed to have a really nice season. Next year with Georgia Tech.
  18. A "shit takes" thread would be pretty entertaining after the season. Every year there are one or two guys that get shit on before the season and then play really well - Christian Jones and Vernon Broughton come to mind.
  19. The "Hudson Card Kai Money Troy Omeire Pre-Season reverse-Gaskamp Award"? I like it.
  20. Not all QBs starting for the first time are equal. Mike Leach and Bob Stoops rolled out new starters without skipping a beat year after year for what seemed like forever. USC had good streak in the 2000s. It's not all that unusual for 3rd or 4th year guys to play well when they finally get to start. Arch is in year 3 of the same system with a lot of talent around him. I suspect he'll have a lot more highs than lows. The OL is a bigger question mark. Fortunately, this isn't like Strong or Herman teams where young guys were playing before they were ready. Or flat out weren't very good. Even if they knew their assignment, it wasn't a given they could execute it. That's not an issue this year. They are all physically ready. It's just a matter of whether they can play well as a group.
  21. The Georgia Film Guy on youtube has a break down of Marcel Reed. He starts off saying he respects what Klein does as an OC. Then proceeds to show a bunch of clips of poorly designed plays that are doomed if the primary target is covered. He couldn't tell if Reed can work through progressions because he's never been asked to. As far as I can tell, Klein's offensive philosophy is something along the lines of, "10% of the time it works every time."
  22. Weren't Notre Dame and OSU playing multiple backup OL in the championship game? And I think ND lost a couple of d-linemen during the playoffs. Going forward, winning a championship may come down to who has the least amount of drop-off from their starters to their backups.
  23. If someone showed me that clip without names or numbers, I wouldn't have guessed Sharma was the freshman.
