  1. In his defense, he's no more full of shit than anyone else.
  2. Comfy? This jet needs to be blowing his dick off. We don't want any more health problems.
  3. You gotta keep up man. It's now EJA664. https://flightaware.com/live/flight/EJA664#flightPageActivityLog On a related note, now I know I need a second monitor in my office for coaching searches.
  4. Only Surly would have competing discussions of private jets, meat grinding, and mayo on a thread about hiring our next coach.
  5. I haven't read the last 10 pages or so, but I'm pretty sure you left out a lot of fisting references. On a different note, can you work out a Surly Amber alert so I can stop checking?
  6. Talking about Campbell's record at ISU is about risk. Nothing is guaranteed, but all things considered, more information is better than less. UM is as close to a sure thing as a coach can be. He can absolutely win a championship here. It would be an anomaly if he didn't at least make the playoff. That's not true of any the other candidates. For them, we have to make a decision based on the information available. Campbell now has 10 years of experience, which makes him a relatively known quantity compared to Fickell or Napier or others with limited experience at a lower tier. Compare that to what we knew about Strong and Herman when they were hired. Campbell has shown he can jump a level and still win (from Toledo to ISU) and that he can win without a stud QB, a senior laden team, etc. He's doing the ISU equivalent of reloading. That doesn't seem all that impressive in terms of wins and losses, but compare that to Saban at MSU.
  7. Weren't the 9.95ers saying for weeks that CDC told Herman he had to win the conference to keep his job?
  8. As he walks in, Herman notices CDC's office has a sheet of plastic covering the floor.
  9. Based on what? For every Stoops, there is a Muschamp. HC is a different job than coordinator and as Strong and Herman have demonstrated, even a successful stint as a head coach doesn't mean they will succeed at Texas. Elliott may be the next Saban. He may be the next Malzahn. There's no way to know at this point. If you want the next Saban/Meyer, follow their pattern - success at multiple schools. I'm not sure who fits that description, but hopefully CDC does.
  10. This! No good will come from Herman hanging around the rest of the season. He has the conversation with CDC and is gone within the hour. We post the position for 10 days and then hire the new guy.
  11. Tony Elliot has one year as sole OC and has never been a HC at any level. Joe Brady is similar. I don't see us even looking at those guys. Luke Fickell looks like a good coach. Tom Allen may be even better. I'd take a look at Billy Napier at Lousiana too.
  12. That is a curious statement. I hope it is true, but why would Fenves push for an extension? Specially if CDC was against it.
  13. Mack had players running wild. Aaron Hernandez killed at least one person, and possibly three. He was a full on psychopath. That wasn't really UM's fault, but he did seem to help cover up some warning signs. Regardless, it was more than some players running wild. Though still well short of Baylor/Penn State level shit.
  14. Not having an off-season would be a better excuse if the offense started off poorly and showed improvement over the course of the season. Which is happening on defense. We're seeing the opposite on offense. That side of the ball is regressing other than Bijan. We've been at our best at the end of games when we aren't running our scheme, whatever that is.
  15. Is "big donor" a euphemism for fisting now?
  16. If this is the dumb question thread, what is the rest of Surly for?
  17. Our offense looked good against UTEP and Tech. Otherwise we've been regressing every game. Sam has to be injured, but we aren't doing anything to help him either. We've had weird personnel decisions (Bijan getting 5 carries in a half, everything we do with our TEs), crappy o-line play, conservative play calls, receivers can't get separation, etc.
  18. There is no combination of Oklahoma and sperm that I want to know anything about.
  19. Surly has very low, if any, standards in most areas. Apparently, fisting is not one of them.
  20. Two years is not much to go on. That said, looking back at Houston's S/P+ ratings, Herman was not all that different from Tony Levine or Applewhite on the offensive side (though 2018 showed a significant improvement) and he had Ward as a junior and senior. Herman was better overall due to defense (2016) and special teams. Maybe we should hire that Orlando guy. I wonder how he would have done with another year at Houston. It's interesting that Applewhite was done in by defense and special teams, but his 2018 was by far the best offense. Yr Total Off Def ST 2014 56 54 44 113 2015 53 41 69 29 2016 39 56 27 29 2017 43 43 57 94 2018 64 20 106 47
  21. I hear what Urban is saying, but there's an implicit assumption that any coach can be successful. Some people suck at their job and others will never be more than mediocre. Trust, work ethic, and selflessness may be necessary for a team to reach its potential. Coaching (including recruiting, development, and scheme) sets the ceiling though unless you have a transcendent talent like Vince Young. Most coaches aren't Urban Meyer or Saban or Dabo and never will be. No matter how many Ohio State coaches he hires, Herman just is not in Urban's league and will never achieve the same level of success. He can do better than losing to TCU and squeaking by Tech, but I think Texas expects more than that.
