  1. Swoopes would probably be a TE this year. Dylan Haines wouldn't see the field. Those guys were starters and they wouldn't make the two deep this year no matter who the coach was. That was just a bad roster.
  2. In case anyone forgot, here's the roster when Strong took over. There were some really talented seniors, but not much after that. Take out the seniors and I don't see many guys who would start on this year's team. 3. I second this. Watch Matt Canada, he was consistently going over a play-chart, talking into his headset, and then getting into position to watch the play. That's what someone calling plays looks like. Herman wasn't on screen as much, but not once did it look like he was considering a play call. This sounds like made up 9.95 bs which seems plausible if you are holding out hope for a miraculous turnaround.
  4. I just rewatched the game and I saw exactly 1 semi-competent WR block (from LJH in the 3rd quarter that allowed a 3-4 yard gain). Those guys couldn't block for shit and yet we kept running plays that required them to do so. It's not like they were getting open either.
  5. In addition to being an asshole, Herman inherited way more talent than Strong did. Strong had some talent on defense his first year, but by his second season the cupboard was bare and he acknowledged that. Herman certainly didn't inherit a loaded roster, but he hasn't had to deal with what Strong dealt with. Last year he said this was the best o-line he'd been around and then they stank. This year he repeatedly mentioned how much better the team was. Then we lost to Maryland. Again. The defense is better, but otherwise there isn't much difference. So far, Herman's offense reminds me of the last few Mack Brown teams in that the players don't seem to be developing. I suppose the o-line looked better yesterday, but Sam seems to make the same mistakes, the receivers still can't get open (or block), and ... Kyle Porter. We still don't have an offensive identity and we have a bizarre tendency to go away from what works. I don't know what happened with the defense, but I suspect Orlando will get it turned around.
  6. Self awareness is a good thing. For several years, we just needed better players, or more experience, or better conditioning, or more alignment, or more time in the scheme. There was something to hope for. If we just had ______ we'd start winning. It's hard to make that case now. We just aren''t good.
