  1. I’ve played at that MGM in DC a few times. They started out downstairs and then moved to a bigger and nicer space upstairs. Haven’t been in awhile but think they were setting up for a cool sports bar area next to it.
  2. After closing in March 2020 when the state shuttered nonessential businesses including restaurants and casinos to prevent the spread of COVID-19, two of the city’s most beloved French restaurants get ready to reopen. Joël Robuchon returns July 1 at the MGM Grand and the more casual workshop L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon reopens on July 15. L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon gives diners a front-row seat when they pull up a seat at the bar overlooking the kitchen to watch the artistry of the chefs. Robuchon’s more casual approach to dining offers tapas, a tasting menu, and wines from around the world. Patrons can even order Robuchon’s vision of a burger and snag a taste of his famous mashed potatoes. Jonathan Doukhan, executive chef of L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon, says his team spent the past year and change coming up with new dishes that transform “commonly used ingredients into dishes never-before-seen at a Robuchon restaurant or elsewhere. The menu is both recognizable and approachable for newcomers, as well as a stimulating challenge for gourmands.” The Le Saint Pierre features John Dory à la plancha on a “sambol” of tomato, confits lime zest, and cilantro puree; Le Grenouillle comes with caramelized frog legs on creamy spelt risotto; and La Framboise brings a white chocolate sphere with fresh raspberry and yuzu ice cream. Diners may sit next to Chuck Norris, one of the celebrity pics that line the opulently decorated space at the grand Joël Robuchon that feels like a cross between the inside of a Faberge egg and the boudoir of Marie Antoinette. The exquisitely crafted fare from the Robuchon returns, including the 15-course degustation menu. It’s French grandiosity meets Asian refinement. Truffled langoustine ravioli in a foie gras sauce, a semi-soft boiled egg on a spinach puree, and Maine lobster in a thinly sliced turnip join roving cheese, bread, and mignardises carts. Do sit in the opulent lounge up front for a glass of Champagne. Christophe de Lellis, executive chef of Joël Robuchon, says his team worked on a menu of beloved dishes for the return, such as Le Caviar Imperial with Osetra caviar served atop king crab in a crustacean gelée dotted with cauliflower puree; La Langoustine with truffled langoustine ravioli served with simmered cabbage and foie gras sauce; and La Rosa, a gelee of Dassai “39” sake topped with white chocolate rose and orange coulis. Both restaurants were part of the Eater 38 when they were open. Robuchon died in August 2018 at age 73 due to complications of cancer. Robuchon earned the title Chef of the Century from Gault Millau in 1987. https://vegas.eater.com/2021/6/17/22538736/joel-robuchon-french-restaurants-reopen-july-las-vegas-strip
  3. Sorry it took awhile, finally heard back from one of my contacts who said he’s hearing it should be soon, as in the next month (for both places).
  4. I would suggest calling them and ask that question. They used to have a fast pass system but I’m not sure they are still using it now that they have reservations.
  5. Wynn Las Vegas rolled out a new customer loyalty club card on Dec. 21, 2020. Now, for a limited time, the company is offering tier matching. Until recently, players at Wynn and Encore could join the Red Card program, but it didn’t have tiers. Tiers are a big deal to gamblers, because the higher the tier, the better the perks. At Wynn, the perks include free play, comp dollars and exclusive room offers. After the launch of Wynn Rewards in Las Vegas (it had been around awhile at Encore Boston Harbor), players could attain three tiers: Red, Platinum and Black. With tier matching, a player can use an existing loyalty club card from a competing casino to get a comparable tier level at Wynn Las Vegas. For example, a Chairman level player at Golden Nugget gets a Platinum card at Wynn. A Diamond player at Caesars gets a Platinum card at Wynn. A Noir player in the M Life system (MGM Resorts) leapfrogs to the Black tier at Wynn Resorts. You can see all the details on the Wynn Las Vegas Web site. This is the first time Wynn’s loyalty club has offered tier matching, so don’t miss out. It’s a great way to make your favorite casino jealous, and you can never have too many dining and spa credits, free play or other goodies. The opportunity to tier match ends August 31, 2021, so don’t procrastinate. https://vitalvegas.com/wynn-rewards-loyalty-club-offers-tier-matching/

  7. As far as new goes, it’s not open yet but that goofy Salt Bae dude will be opening on the Vegas strip: https://vegas.eater.com/2021/4/5/22367032/salt-bae-nusr-et-steakhouse-hiring-las-vegas-strip On Cosmo, I would assume you’ve been to STK and somehow forgot about it. It’s like a nightclub atmosphere with a DJ that oh by the way also has steaks. It’s a fun setup for groups and pre-Covid had a decent amount of hot chicks inside the joint. You don’t particularly go there for the food, but it’s not terrible. Outside of that, I will have to rethink if there is anything new. There is one recently opened at the new Virgin Hotel (former Hard Rock) but I haven’t seen one word about it yet, and so far people say the atmosphere is dead over there. https://virginhotelslv.com/dine-and-drink/one-steakhouse/ How about X Pot. It’s at the Grand Canal at Palazzo. Not sure if that satisfies the need for a twist. I’m actually booked to try it soon. https://thexpot.com/
