  1. Yeah. Culturally, he fits at a program that gets under recruited talent and gets them to bust their asses. Not at a culture where he is expected to recruit top tier talent. Players who aren’t as talented play well together when they are playing with a chip on their shoulder. That’s the culture he fits into. Not one where the talent is so high players expect to win just by showing up. He doesn’t fit that. Not a stretch to say at all. What did you think I meant that because he is black he can’t coach successfully at UT?
  2. To be fair, UT fans don’t support the program like derka does. Cutting seating from 16,500 to ~10k take a lot of revenue generation off the table even if beard were to get UT to the final 4. With the smaller arena UT isn’t folding up shop but you are scaling it down quite a bit. Which if CDC sees each sport as its own profit and loss center (not sure if that’s his philosophy) then money whipping is very possibly off the table. Also, with how Hocutt has talked, beard’s buyout could be more than shaka’s. I’ve gone through the math and for what it might take to get bears UT basketball could put $40M-$50M of liabilities on the books in buyouts and contracts while also cutting revenue streams. There is a business side to this you know.
  3. I hope the cheap narrative is played out but even after the 2008 final four they agave howland a raise to 1.97million. They overpaid for Alford because no one else wanted the job. And even that overpay was only $2.5. Guy was a sub average coach so it was like they were setting a market for average coaches and saying “look we’ll pay for wins”. The blue bloods are laying $4M plus on the table and Cal made 9 this year. UCLA is just a little behind in basketball because it so desperately wants to have football back. That being said, there isn’t a coach out there aside from maybe Bennett and Mack that I would pay more than 3M for. You are probably right on the scandal having an affect on the hire. Which might mean years more of wandering in the forest for UCLA.
  4. Not to cloak it up but UCLA isn’t hiring a Born and raised Texan. UCLA arrogance is why they have issues hiring a coach, well that and their cheapness. That’s why Kentucky struggled with BCG and why Cal was the only right person for the job in the end. Culture fit is dumb but an amazing phenomenon. It’s why Shaka doesn’t work at UT and why many other good coaches can’t translate success from school to school. It is a disease carried by fans and boosters that infects students and admins. Then the coach tries to change to become part of the culture so he isn’t destroyed but in the end the coach has left everything that made him a good coach to begin with. Culture is a cancer than makes the coach slit his own throat in the end. This is why UCLA needs the strongest personality coach out there. One with a track record that no one, even the biggest booster, can deny. That’s why I’m so sold on pitino at UCLA. He’s the only one who fits the position. Any other coach will start hearing footsteps and whispers the second he doesn’t dominate at UCLA.
  5. He’s got 4 more years. He proved he could coach in year 1. Now they’re letting him dump the roster and recruit his guys. He’ll get them to seniors and he will have them in the tourney. He’s recruiting well but is he recruiting guys who can win together? If he is then I’d say he is one of the best young coaches out there and not just another Archie Miller.
  6. Manning being retained at wake. There goes a Shaka destination.
  7. Tillman is the biggest donor and the chairman of the board? He pretty much just bought the school didn’t he?
  8. I just can’t believe that beard will be a candidate because of money. If he were to be stolen then it will be the best hire in the history of UT basketball and I will never doubt the power of the great Texas moneywhip again.
  9. He looks about 60 in that pic. While urban claims to have health issues whenever he gets in trouble, I think Matta could legit die on the sideline at 55.
  10. I was really worried about Self leaving the program even just weeks ago with the season we had and the NCAA scrutiny. But after talking with a higher education professional PR guy (worked the UNC case) and hearing what Self had to say recently I don't think he is going anywhere and I don't think KU is going to get hit as hard as what I previously thought. We are going to get smacked, but based on what the PR guy said there are so many easy ways to face the NCAA that lawsuits will basically guarantee the NCAA walks from penalties levied. I think our max penalty is that we vacate games De Sousa played in the 2017-2018 season (which includes a final four). If that is the worst that happens then effectively the only thing that is proven is that we played an ineligible player, which he technically was. Self wouldn't be the first coach to live through this stuff. Just a few years ago the NCAA officially made UK recognize that Calipari had to vacate games when they tried to celebrate him hitting some milestone. They did and they moved on the next day. Late Cal actually made public jabs at the NCAA about the whole deal. As long as KU doesn't make a move on Self I dont' see self making a run for the NBA. Thamel and Forde are both always hard on KU so I don't give much sway to what they write. Forde thought that KU was basically going to get the death penalty the day this all came out only to see the FBI identify KU as a victim in the deal. While other coaches are going down, KU's weren't touched by the legal system. Also, Bill Self's comments aren't "rah rah". These are some of the strongest comments I've read from any coach who has ever faced scrutiny:
  11. Anderson is a great person but Richardson’s game plans won’t work in this age of basketball where every team you play has elite athletes that’s don’t wear down easily. The game is too focused on physical fitness now to wear down teams consistently. He got absolutely punished at MU when he faced equal or better athletes. I dont know where arky goes from here. Houston might be a better job than arky right now and fertita is probably willing to pay like it is too.
  12. Surprised someone didn't get ventilated there. You pull that gun you better be ready to die by it. Good control by the kid. I probably would have popped a few rounds into the side of the car just to make a statement. I also probably would have been in jail for doing so.
  13. Prohm is going to have to win some games with hoiberg down the street. I don’t think the mayor would have returned if the door opened anyway. He’s going to move back to the NBA with the first sniff he gets. It’s just unfortunate that his first opportunity was with one of the worst run franchises in the NBA. No way hoiberg wanted to have to leave Ames twice to accomplish his dreams. Ames will be there in 10 years if he needs a soft landing.
  14. After her court date we'll get into that stuff.
  15. Awarded a protection order. Should be interesting.
  16. Needless to say I don’t think you guys will be getting noodz from her. Sorry for my failure. On the bright side, confirmation that my dick has some magic left.
  17. Welp... in this episode of don’t stick your shank in crazy jhawk is in the Tulsa police department filing a protective order against the former Budweiser girl. 1000s of texts from her with no provocation from me didn’t do it. It was when she followed me to brunch, texting me from across the restaurant, and then asking about my female employees by name (which she has no reason to know) that got me here. One night together and she’s losing her mind. Can’t wait for the fallout once she’s served.
  18. I often compare us to UT football honestly. We have everything we need to be the best team in the history of basketball but we just aren’t there. And it’s 5 titles if you include the helms titles which are basically “unofficial” titles awarded from the pre-tourney era. That being said, KU has lost to a higher seeded team 16 times in 48 tournament appearances. 8 of those times the loss came in the elite 8 or higher AND was to a team seeded within 2 seeds of KU. By comparison, UK has also been upset 16 times in the tourney. They have 59 appearances and only 6 of their upsets came in or after the final 8. Additionally, only 5 of their upsets were to teams within 2 seeds of them. UNC has been upset 20 times in 50 appearances. 11 times in the elite 8 or better. 11 times to teams within 2 seeds. Duke has been upset 23 times in 43 appearances with only 6 of them coming in or after the elite 8. An astonishing 16 of those upsets were to teams outside of 2 seed positions from them. ao if you’re saying that KU is an outlier from the other blue bloods with losing in the tournament then the data doesn’t support your conclusion. The general upset percentages are: KU: .333 UK: .271 UNC: .400 duke: .535 the “bad upset” percentages (3+ seed discrepancy) are: KU: .167 UK: .186 UNC: .180 Duke: .372 Your claim holds more weight with a bias to recent years because since 2000 we have been top 2 seeded 13 times but we have been upset 8 times during that stretch. do better research. *edit: oddly, these upset percentages fall exactly in line with the all time wins numbers ranking. It’s almost like the blue bloods have played enough games to sort out exactly how they are going to finish out on the average every year. Statistics are amazing with large enough sample sizes.
  19. You said it “likely” to happen. That isn’t an opinion that is you making an assertion. You could have said “I think they’ll still face legal trouble” or “I believe they are going to face legal trouble” what you said is they are likely to be indicted. That isn’t an opinion.
  20. The very founding of the FBI was based on collecting dirt on political enemies. Shit, the thing that should scare the shit out of everyone here is the simple fact that the absolute heart of the investigation (carter page) who was the original FISA concern and was monitored for 2 years before the SC was appointed didn’t get sniffed for an indictment.
  21. I hope Barr does the right thing and lays all of the cards out ASAP. Whether the report is damning or not doesn’t matter so much as eliminating the ability of the repubs and dems weaponization of the subject matter. Repubs are saying hoax and dems are pointing to a couple of facets (like manafort going down for crimes 15 years ago) and they’re using it to further divide the country. Barr should use all of his authority to kill any narrative that is born out of opinion or politicalization. i hope he draws up a great summary and can clearly articulate it to the people. We do not want schiff or nunes delivering a narrative. Barr has a unique opportunity to kill politics right now and I hope he uses it.
  22. Reading comprehension? He said it’s likely that more indictments are coming at different jurisdictions for crimes not related to Russia probe. I said that he has no evidence that there are indictments coming. Which is true. There hasn’t been one leak or credible source come forward and say “SDNY is going to indict JK (or junior) for bank fraud (or any other crime)”. I didn’t say they didn’t commit crimes or there isn’t other investigations I said that jimmy is speculating and then telling us “it’s very likely”. Just like we heard “it’s very likely that trump is a Russian asset installed by Putin himself” for 2 years. The amount of blind spin around here that is blindly accepted and twisted to fit any individual poster’s world view is insanity.
