El Mercado South is closing next week. This one hurts. I've been going there since 1988. Maybe not the best food, but great folks and always easy to park and get in. De Nada is taking over the space.
Went to the Blue Genie Art Bazaar and decided to give the Mama Betty's a shot on the way home despite the reviews above. Food was very mid. Wife said 5/10 at best, which is spot on. Plus they screwed up her order, which wasn't even that complicated. We didn't have any drinks, so can't comment on the booze, but the margarita lists looked pretty damn good. And the space itself is beautiful. They must have spent a shitload on the build out. It gives off Uncle Julio vibes, and not in a good way. Blue Genie Art Bazaar was as kickass as ever though. Some of the best people watching in Austin, plus really good stocking stuffers.
Planning on flying out on the 18th and staying through the 21st for the first weekend of the CFP. In the past have either stayed at Wynn or Caesar Nobu when I go with my wife or Westgate when I go with my son. Thinking of trying Cosmo this time since I can use Bonvoy points and the terrace rooms overlooking the Bellagio fountains look super cool and are a good price right now. We're early 60. Will we be out of place there? Any other issues with Cosmo?
Wife and I flew up there for Summerfest in 2017 to see Petty and the Heartbreakers on their 40th anniversary tour (RIP Tom). Stayed at the Pfister. Really enjoyed the City. Weather was incredible. Very cool old early 20th century high rises if you're into architecture. Great bars and really friendly people. The grounds at Summerfest are permanent (like a small Dallas State of Texas Fairgrounds). Always check the lineup to see if there's anyone worth going up for again.
Inks has been lowered the past month or so to allow owners to work on their docks and whatnot. No clue how much they'll need to release from Buchanan to fill it back up, but I'd assume the water coming down the San Saba will do it.
Probably not the best place for dinner if you're looking for good vibe, but Mi Madres for breakfast or lunch would be a suggestion given the location of your Airbnb. Another close by option is Amaya's Taco Village.
