  1. Best match of the tournament this morning. Ireland v Scotland. Scots currently up 7-3 midway through first half.
  2. ELI5. How is this different than the S&L crisis where savings and loans invested long term (mortgages) and borrowed (deposits) short term and got whipsawed by rising rates in the late 70s/early 80s? And if so, did SVB's executives not study any of that in grad school?
  3. In the early 90s it was Colorado St Bar & Grill. At least the entrance off Colorado was. We offices at the Texas Commerce Bank building and would walk over there through the alley behind Gracy Title after work. Watched Magic announce he was HIV positive there

  6. The homeowner mispronouncing Bowie in that clip justifies everything that happened. Also, according to r/Austin, this happened off Cuernavaca, which nobody would call Northwest Austin.

    Mexican

Damn. That sounds awesome and I need to check it out. Reminds me of the place on 6th Street in the early 90s named El Chino, that had all you can eat Mexican and Chinese food lunchtime buffet.

Traditional or something else (like Sonoran)? Everyone raves about T Locs, but I'm honestly not a fan of the style. I prefer traditional with chili, mustard and onions. Sandy's fits the bill for a classic (similar to what Mike's Pub use to serve). Black Sheep and Billy's versions are also very good. Surprisingly Top Notch's are not top notch. And the sit down Sonic on North Lamar is always just fine.
  9. Harry Whittington just died. Apparently not from getting shot in the face by VP Cheney though.
  10. West Lake Hills back on!
  11. Friends who live off Bee Cave and Walsh Tarlton in our old neighborhood got their power back a couple of hours ago, so hopefully moving quicker now. We lived off Wilderness in the late 90s/early 00s and walked that creek a lot with my kids. AE never cleared it back then either, but the main issue in the 90s was flooding not freezing.
  12. Six Nations starts tomorrow. Prop bet on whether Italy wins a fixture? Who wins it all? Ireland or France? I'll be pulling for Wales to repeat. They play favorite Ireland at 8:30am tomorrow on Peacock.
  13. West side of Westlake Hills has no power and no water. Did get out and try the new pizza place in Rollingwood. Dumb name (Lover Boy Pizza) but good pizza and delicious salad.
  14. Been misting/drizzling for about the last hour in Westlake and many more trees are all of a sudden cracking and dropping branches and limbs. Unless we get some solid rain to help melt off the ice faster before the wind hits tomorrow morning it's going to be apocalyptic in the Hills of WL
  15. Street was blocked this morning with a down tree (we are on a one way in/out dead end street). Got an Uber to pick up mother-in-law on the other side of the downed tree and got her to the airport. Flight just took off. Dry January just ended (literally).
  16. My mother in law has been visiting since January 7. Her flight back to Albuquerque today was canceled yesterday, so we rescheduled for the same time on Wednesday. Which I'm sure will shortly be canceled. We'll have better luck playing pickup sticks with our butt cheeks than we will getting her a flight back to New Mexico by Friday.
  17. The area between Tres Piedras and Chama is one of the most desolate and beautiful places in the US. Getting in and out of there in the winter can be a bitch though.
  18. Exactly
  19. Not NM, but just north of there you can buy yourself cheap acreage in the San Luis Valley. Only an hour or so north of Taos. No utilities or maintained roads though. And retiring to New Mexico is great until you need healthcare. https://www.amazon.com/Cheap-Land-Colorado-Off-Gridders-Americas-ebook/dp/B09QPJKSXM
