  1. Devil beating his wife in Westlake
  2. Walked over to the New Torchys on 2nd and Nueces to have a quick 512 IPA. Looks like I'm here for a few more.
  3. Chief Manley discusses the new ordinance https://www.pscp.tv/Austin_Police/1BdGYAWyPOXGX?t=10m46s
  4. This on white bread with Miracle Whip and a slice of American Cheese
  5. Maul for the try! and the match!
  6. MLR Championship match on CBS right now. San Diego V Seattle. Scott Green from Austin is the head referee. He also calls a few HS matches around town, which is kind of incredible when you think about it. But great for the HS kids who get to play when he's calling games. Great ref.

    Tex Mex

Still some of the best nachos in town
  8. Yes. And a kickass happy hour with cheap Austin area beers.
  9. It’s now called the Varsity. And is basically a Double Dave’s with better beer selection. At least it was last time I went there two or three months back.
  10. Well if we’re reminiscing, bring back Time Out for Burger in Westlake and El Chino at 6th and Brazos (home of the all you can eat Mexican and Chinese food lunch buffet).

    Steak

Is the Wagyu worth it? I’ve had the USDA Prime (which was outstanding) but am considering biting the bullet and getting the Wagyu porterhouse next visit (for two). Better price per weigh than the other Wagyu options and my wife prefers the filet while I like the strip.

    Burgers

Parking is never available, but Pool Burger (below Deep Eddy Cabaret) serves a really good burger.
  13. Division 1A College National Championship Game currently on CBSSN. Repeat of last year’s final between Life and Cal. Ryan Reese of Westlake is the starting scrum half for Life.
  14. just back from Brews Brothers on Strand. My son had a milk stout and I had a couple of citrusi IPAs to go along with the best burger on the island without a doubt. And the beertender is incredibly easy on the eyes (no pics, my Topo Chico drinking wife was with me).
  15. I would have never thought of Billy’s as a gastropub but glad to know one of my hangouts fits that category (and best frito chili pie in town). Poodie’s on 71 probably fits the bill, too. Luster Pearl East if you want to class it up a bit. Anyone tried Detour in Oak Hill? Oh, and the new Torchy’s downtown has a cool looking bar area and decent enough beer list.
  16. Tried it twice and it was very sub-par. It was better than La Cabana down 71 in Spicewood which I only tried once and was one of the worst Mexican food restaurants I ever set foot in (in terms of food qualify and service). I know I'm not getting necessarily great food at Rosie's, but I know what I'm getting. Those two places (Los Pinos and La Cabana) are trying to live off reputations they never had.

    Burgers

It's hipster as hell, but Dean's One Trick Pony in the Line Hotel downtown makes a phenomenal burger. I walk down to it during Sx, ate a Double on the patio and watched the money flow into town.
  18. It's All Good when it's on is better than Opie's. When it's not it's still good, but Opie's is better. And Opie's has butter beans on weekends which makes it better on weekends. Schmidt Family BBQ is mediocre at best. My wife likes their chicken, but the brisket is consistently dry. I've never tried RO's. Much like Grandpa's Tacos at Bee Creek, it never appears to be open. From Spicewood, it's also only another 30 minutes or so to Coopers in Llano, which to me is still one of the best places on earth for bbq. Edited to add Willie's Burgers next to my storage unit. All I've ever had are breakfast tacos, but Willie is a cool old dude. And it's been open forever so I suspect the bbq is okay if not better.
  19. El Rancho in Burnet. Used to be Tamale King in Buchanan Dam, but it recently closed
  20. Proof and Cooper was mediocre in my one experience too. Continue down the road a bit for Family Business Beer Company if it's a nice day though. Great wrap around porch to sit and rock and drink an IPA or three. There's also a food truck, but it was closed the day we were there. Is Verde's any good? Always seem to be cars there. Rosie's needs to be on the list, even if just for nachos. It's All Good BBQ is above average. And Angel's Icehouse is always a good time. Oh, and Poodie's. Definitely not too snooty.
  21. I was lucky enough to get two tickets for tomorrow from a client, including a hospitality tent seat. Parking is at Barton Creek Mall, then shuttle. Anyone know much time should I give myself to get to the grounds from the mall parking lot? Does the shuttle run every 15 minutes or so?

    Gyros

Halal Bros on the Drag is my current favorite (not Halal Guys; it closed). Little Greek in Lakeway if you’re out that way.
  23. Taking my son to Vegas for his 21st for the USA Rugby Sevens tournament. My game of choice is craps, and he wants me to teach him. So I'm looking for $5 minimum tables at most. Cromwell? Anywhere else on the strip? Four Queen still have $5 tables?
