  1. Just take your double double with jalapenos across the street to Flower Child and eat it there.
  2. I had just started driving. Had a sweet 1976 lime green Camaro with white vinyl interior (underpowered 6-cylinder though). Was living in OK at the time and a few days after the explosion had a layer of ash on my car one morning when I got up to go to school. Also, @Gatorubet, Urban Cowboy was released a month or two after the explosion. Reason I know is that it was the hit of the summer and I took my then girlfriend to see it on one of our first car dates in my sweet 1976 lime green Camaro with white vinyl interior.
  3. SIgnage is up for the new Whataburger Digital Kitchen at Bee Cave and Walsh Tarlton. Apparently the first of its kind. The traffic clusterfuck ingressing/egressing onto Walsh Tarlton from there is going to be epic.
  4. You've left out (or I missed) a very important fact or two. Who issued or what contains the setback line? Also, your post says the shed is over a setback line and also encroaches on the property line (does that mean over the property line?). Setback lines are typically either by zoning, platting or deed restrictions. Property lines are, of course, based on boundary lines/legal descriptions in deeds. Enforcement varies depending on what is being violated.

Mi Madre’s. Get the 0 and the 15.
  7. Maybe he realized he wasn't in any condition to drive.
  8. HP12C calculator purchased with Xmas money in December of 1983 for college accounting/finance classes. Still use it to this day. Plus a bunch of old vinyl.
  9. Can't edit for some reason, but ground lease may not be expiring in the "next few years". Don't recall exactly when, but remember it being a leasehold condo and not on a fee. If that's the case, it will foul up redevelopment for awhile.
  10. Greenwood Towers is on a ground lease (or was) that should be expiring sometime in the next few years. Had someone ask me to review the condo documents to buy a unit there a few years back.
  11. No smoked beef cheeks or garlic cauliflower (gluten free) Mac and cheese for sure. But the wings are very good and the chopped beef sandwich is delicious. And the beer is cold and the patio is awesome. So agree to disagree.
  12. City is apparently trying to put Green Mesquite out of business. Just drove down there from Westlake on Barton Springs and they now have yellow bollards (posts, whatever) preventing you from either doing a U-turn or turning left on Josephine to park on the east side of GM. Instead, you either have to turn early on Jessie and go up and around the Carpenter or turn left on Lamar and then around the block. Look, I realize that the food there (other than the chicken wings which is what I was going to pick up) aren't all that great, but sitting out back under the trees sipping down a Shiner or Fire Eagle while waiting on a to go order or meeting a few friends for lunch for way to long needs some sort of historical protection. And when everyone forgets about We Sorta Try Bluegrass band, they will have died twice.

Could you order ahead an OT Special with jalapenos and a side of tots and pick it up as the train went through? Because I would totally ride it then.
  14. Downtown Polvos has a nice patio.
  15. Furious downpour for all of about 3 minutes in West Lake. Over now.

    Pizza

Finally tried Jet's on South Lamar for lunch today. 2 slices of Detroit style and a drink for $5.97. Smoken deal and as good as Via's imo.
  17. Best match of the tournament this morning. Ireland v Scotland. Scots currently up 7-3 midway through first half.
  18. ELI5. How is this different than the S&L crisis where savings and loans invested long term (mortgages) and borrowed (deposits) short term and got whipsawed by rising rates in the late 70s/early 80s? And if so, did SVB's executives not study any of that in grad school?
  19. In the early 90s it was Colorado St Bar & Grill. At least the entrance off Colorado was. We offices at the Texas Commerce Bank building and would walk over there through the alley behind Gracy Title after work. Watched Magic announce he was HIV positive there

  22. The homeowner mispronouncing Bowie in that clip justifies everything that happened. Also, according to r/Austin, this happened off Cuernavaca, which nobody would call Northwest Austin.

    Mexican

Damn. That sounds awesome and I need to check it out. Reminds me of the place on 6th Street in the early 90s named El Chino, that had all you can eat Mexican and Chinese food lunchtime buffet.
