His reasoning on this is incredible.  Where are the Republicans willing to take a pause on this line of thinking?...

If they are going to investigate us (me), we (I) are going to investigate them.

He's saying that House Dems need to be investigated for shady things like releasing classified docs, but the only reason for investigating them that he is giving is....because they are investigating me.  In what world does this make the tiniest bit of sense from a truth-seeking angle?

All the enlightened folks voted democrat. If this rhetoric didn’t exist, people like me would’ve probably sat out this election because I didn’t care for any of the candidates. I only voted because I didn’t want this type of elitist attitude running everything, telling me what I should and shouldn’t believe.

I actually felt somewhat the same as you after Trump won.  I didn't care for him, but I thought it was unfair that everyone who voted for him was given some demeaning label.

And then Republicans spent the next two years either ignoring or explaining away Trump's behavior.  Not one GOP party leader has had the guts to call him out when he makes a racist or misogynistic comment.  They bend the knee.  Over. And. Over. And. Over.

I gave Trump a chance.  And he showed his true colors.  You say you don't like being unfairly labeled.  And I get that.  What I don't get is that you're so offended by those labels that you're willing to vote for someone (who you don't even like) who falls in line with a man who spews hatred and vitriol, and you're willing to do it simply out of spite.

Went back on the Travis County Clerk's Twitter page. Here are hourly comparisons to 2016 (they didn't tweet every hour in 2016):

    Hour - 2016 - 2018

    9:00am - 17,700 - 17,364
    11:00am - 36,874 - 34,647
    1:00pm - 51,000 - 53,749

Pretty incredible that we're outpacing 2016 at this point.

I couldn't find any hourly comparisons for 2014, but I found the totals:

    Early Voting: 145,201

    Election Day: 124,804

    Total: 270,005

Step 1: draft the Law that allows for such food donations.
Step 2: add a provision that makes the donor immune to a negligence claim.

We have a crapload of laws limiting liability on the books. Wouldn’t even have to create new language. Next question.

Keep Austin Fed is doing a great job getting the surplus leftovers from commercial kitchens and retailers to those in need:

    https://keepaustinfed.org/donatefood/

In addition to the Good Samaritan federal law, Texas also has a Good Faith Donor Act, which removes liability concerns as long as the donations are made in good faith:

    https://keepaustinfed.org/food-liability-acts

There are certain rules such as it must be food prepared within the last 4 days by a regulated food service business (no individual donations) and it can't be already plated food or open buffet food, but this is a fantastic service that a lot of local Austin food providers have teamed up with in helping those without a source of reliable food.

arguing "you can't help these people because of this other group of people over here" is no way to live your life, man.

True.  But more than that, it's not even an honest response.  The argument of "I have no problem with legal immigration, I have a problem with illegal immigration" gets pooped out onto Twitter by Trump, gets eaten up by his target audience, and then they regurgitate it verbatim.

I wish someone with an (R) next to his name would just be honest.  Trump has brilliantly (and despicably) tapped into something that will get his base to the polls like nothing else will.  Fear.  This isn't about legal vs. illegal immigration.  This is about brown people INVADING our country.  This is about black people hating the flag and freedom.  This is about white America losing its grip of complete and total control.  Sending our armed military to aggressively confront a group of people willingly surrendering and seeking refuge, something that has been taking place for 20 years?  This doesn't pass the smell test, yet here we are.  And millions of people believe it because they've allowed themselves to be guided by fear and fear alone.

I've never voted for a Democrat in my life that I can recall.  Watching everyone up and down the GOP put party affiliation over basic human decency has me completely out on them.  Maybe forever.  Who knows.

I just cant respect a “distillery” if they dont distill their own damn distillate

Are you referring to High West or Kentucky Owl?

Because HW does distill.  It's blended with MGP (and Barton for some).  And KO isn't a distillery.  But I do believe they will be before too long.

All that aside, they both put out really great products.  I'll take a great product over a distillery that cranks out meh whiskey.

  7. I just counted. 39 open bottles, 117 total. Will be 118 after I pick up my 2018 OFBB tomorrow

    That. Is. Awesome.

After reading about everyone’s inventories, I was curious about mine.

    43 open
    79 total
  8. Why confiscate rosarys? That seems chicken shit to me.
Detain them and kick them back to their country, I get that because it's illegal to do what they are doing, but to take their rosary's and let them continue their General Sherman march seems extremely stupid.

Hey Siri. What’s the difference between an emigrant and a refugee?

  9. I think this caravan is differently motivated than most individuals who show up at our border. I believe the organizers are not humanitarians, rather politically or financially motivated assholes taking advantage of our fractioning views on immigration.

Let’s be real clear about who is pushing this story front and center as the election nears.

And it’s obvious that his tactic of spreading fear to the base is working as this caravan of ms-13 and al qaeda zombies with murder in their hearts make their way to your living room.
  10. You should check to see if Oakmont has demo days.

Usually free and you will get reps from the manufacturers who at least in DFW are pretty honest. Watched a guy get fitted for driver by local Titleist guy and he told him to stick with what he had.

What’s the Titleist demo day policy on late arrivals for fittings? Asking for a friend.

  11. Just my opinion here, but CM has only been worth visiting for the sausage for, oh..., the better part of the last decade. The issue is two-fold. One, the proliferation of quality que across the state. And two, well, see number one. Because we are all spoiled now.

I think the massive improvement in quality of bbq in and around Austin has definitely leveled the field compared to the historically great places in central Texas.

But regardless of what other places have been doing, CM imo has taken a drastic nosedive. I chalked it up to hit-or-miss for a few trips (much like Coopers), but it’s to the point that I won’t go to CM again because I can’t even remember the last time I had a good meal there.
  12. Not sure if it’s been mentioned here or not, but it makes me sad that City Market in Luling has become garbage.

Used to be my #1, and it’s now borderline inedible. Awful brisket. Subpar ribs. Their sausage is the only thing left that is even decent.

Austinites complaining about Austin losing its cool vibe is often blown off as being not true because people always complain about stuff like that ... but that doesn't mean Austin's not losing that, or that the people lamenting that change aren't right. Austin really has lost a great deal of the cool, laid-back vibe it had. Having lived here across 5 decades, I don't see how anyone can dispute that. Re: keeping open old establishments 'just because', I really don't think anyone here's really advocating for that, but maybe I missed it.

IMO, I think it's a lot more about the human nature of longing for the past.  A place like Threadgills hasn't actually been all that cool for quite some time.  What makes me sad about Threadgills going away is the loss of the tangible location of past experiences.  But I haven't actually stepped foot inside more than twice over the last 5 years.

Sure, there have been plenty of newer places that have opened over the last 10+ years that I would consider garbage.  But there have also been a lot of really cool places to open as well.  A lot of the old establishments that have closed have closed because they no longer offer anything more than nostalgia.

I guess what makes me roll my eyes at all the "Austin isn't cool anymore" crowd is that I don't think I've ever heard a realistic alternative of what they wish Austin would look like.  It's by and large just a bunch of old man shaking his fist at the clouds type complaining.  It's a continuously growing city...that's just a reality.  Am I pleased with all of it?  No.  But I think it's done a pretty good job of remaining cool and laid back, all things considered.  There are all kinds of places around town that satisfy the whims of the cool and laid back.  If you can't find those places, I don't think you're trying very hard.

Now, if the city lets UT develop over Muni, I reserve the right to take back everything I just wrote.

  14. Heh. I wish...

I’m speaking more to the idea that austinites always have to complain about the city losing its cool. That is “same as it ever was.”

It’s not as long as many here, but I’ve lived here for 20 years. My parents met at UT and I spent my falls as a kid going to Texas games and spending weekends in Austin. I’ve got nostalgia for threadgills as I do with many places in Austin. In fact, my wife and I had our rehearsal dinner at threadgills 12 years ago. That’s a great memory.

That doesn’t change the fact that if we kept the doors open for every place that gave us fond memories from our past, this city would be full of mediocre establishments.
  15. I've been here since 1991, and I have to say I always found the food at Threadgill's to be mediocre at best.  I get the nostalgia and the music, but the food was pretty shitty.

Austin folks are unmatched in their ability to elevate places from their past into lofty positions of reverence based on nostalgia alone.

They’d have you believe our city is crumbling before our eyes.

    Same as it ever was.

Unbelievable putting is what has made his career. Without it, he’s pretty average.

Going back to this, I don't think people realize (or they forget) how great of an iron player Jordan has been for most of the last 2 seasons.  It was a hole in his game during a good chunk of '14-'16 when he was lights out with his putter, and he's improved significantly.  It's a shame, because if he was even decent with the flatstick this season, his game would have been scary good.  It will be interesting to see what 2019 Spieth looks like because if he is able to get back to how he was putting 2 years ago, he could win a lot of tournaments with the improvement in his ball-striking.

To the point that it's the tee-to-green guys whose names dominate the leaderboard...

In 2018, the top 10 TtG players won 16 tournaments and were in the top-10 73 times.  The top-10 putters on tour won 4 tournaments and were in the top-10 32 times (with Day, Phil, and Simpson winning all 4 of those tournaments and taking 19/32 top-10s).   The guys who consistently hit the ball well win a lot of tournaments when they are dropping putts.  That's been Justin Rose as of late.  Now that he started to putt this season, his name is at the top of the leaderboard every week.

If putting was the only part of Jordan's game, he'd be talked about with the likes of Greg Chalmers or Daniel Summerhays, not a 3x major winner and 11 wins on tour before age 25.

  17. And he’s ranked 98th. Might be a problem in foursomes in Ryder Cup

It could be. Euro Team is definitely setting up the course to take away the bomb/gouge advantage as much as possible.

Although, look at the fairways hit leaders. It’s Stenson and then WTF cares.

I agree with whoever said Jordan needs to play more. We’ve seen what he’s capable of when it’s clicking for him. Whether it’s personal stuff, adjusting to stardom, being sick...whatever. It’s not his swing that’s the issue.

I may understand golf stats less than anyone in the world but I have to think Spieth's scrambling makes that tee to green stat look a lot better than it is, dude has no clue where his drives are going and it fucks with his head.

Of the 12 Americans on the Ryder Cup...Webb, Bryson, and Rickie are the only 3 guys who hit more fairways than Jordan.  That's just a fact.

I'd never had it.  And it was the last one I tasted after a long night, so my recollection of it is hazy at best.

Dave brought his recently finished van and ran the whiskey tasting bar in our backyard.  For those who haven't met Dave at AS, he's a blast to talk whiskey with...very passionate.  Between Dave talking shop and the whiskey options available, it was hard to drag anyone away from his cart for the other festivities, myself included.

Spieth is the best shitty golfer in the world. I dig the kid, but you wouldn't teach his swing to anyone, hits it nowhere, he makes terrible contact, but might be the best long putter in the history of the game.

Seriously... He is an enigma. And it's awesome.

The entirety of his short game separated him. He’s a fantastic wedge and bunker player. I think he’s an above average iron player.

    He’s horrific off the tee.

Some of these takes are head-scratchers, with my only issue with Revolution512's take being that Spieth is decent off the tee.  Not great, but much better than horrific.  That would be Phil.

Spieth was the 2nd best player in golf tee-to-green last season.  You know, everything not related to putting.  As bad as his iron play has been recently, he's still 22nd tee-to-green this season.  He's never gonna be a bomber like DJ or Rory, but he's also not been consistently wayward like Phil or Tiger.  He's historically pretty decent off the tee and has waffled between a pretty good and exceptional iron player.   Spieth has shown he can excel in all areas of his game.  His problem is putting it all together, which is no different than any other elite guy on tour.  This season it's been mostly his putting and more than that, his mental game, that has been garbage.

Putting is the biggest variable from tournament to tournament.  That's why the guys who win each weekend are the guys who have a hot putter.  But the guys who consistently do well from tee-to-green are the guys who are on the leaderboard week in and week out.  It's just nonsensical to think that Jordan has accomplished what he has in his career up to this point on putting alone.
