  1. My wife was cleaning out the freezer on Saturday and asked me to cook three chickens last night. I did them all on beer cans. I was surprised that all three fit. The dual-rack in front normally works well, but the one in the back kept falling over so I finally just let it be and quit trying to stand it up. The meat itself turned out ok but the skin was a little rubbery compared to how it's normally more crispy. I'm not sure if that's because they might not have been entirely thawed out or if there was just too much crammed into the smoker. Nonetheless, it all tasted fine in the end.
  2. I've got a metal one with a cargo rail that I'm going to install, then do light bars on the front and back. I originally told the dealer to deliver it without the roof but he said it comes that way from the factory and is included in the price. (this is inconsistent with my previous Mule purchase experience, where the roof was an add-on) I wanted a Ranch Armor top and front rack but those are way more expensive than I want to pay and take at least 6-8 weeks for receive.
  3. I caught a pig by the leg in a snare last week who managed to get away after a couple of hours. Since then I haven't seen a single one on any of my cameras. It's like they all got spooked and left, although I know what really happened is that they have found some other food source somewhere and are depleting that every night until they decide to come back to my place. I did notice for the past week that all of my sour corn hog bait was being eaten and the same large raccoon was coming back to the feeder every night. I drove up on him last night literally 2/3 of the way deep into the hog hole with his rear end straight up in the air. I didn't have a gun and I was so surprised that I started laughing and didn't have time to take a picture. He popped up out of the hole and staggered off behind the tree and disappeared. Damn I wish I had a picture. Here is an artist's re-creation. That dude has eaten an entire 5 gallon bucket of sour corn all by himself it appears.
  4. Meet me at the flagpole after school.
  5. I got this one for $1,000 over MSRP. All of the dealers in Houston and Dallas wanted at least $5,000 over MSRP back in October when I was trying to find one. The dealer in Lubbock was the cheapest and the closest to Scurry County, so I send him the deposit and waited. In December the dealer from Fort Worth had one in stock and called and asked if I wanted it. The drive off price he quoted was over $25,000. I'm sure he was able to sell it by the end of that afternoon. By comparison, I bought the camo version of the same machine back in 2018 and drove it off for a little more than $15,000. No winch, but the same everything else. Also in 2018, I bought a used 2014 3/4 ton pickup in 2018 with 165k miles on it for $20k. I've put another 20k miles on it and the dealer said last time I was there for service that I could sell it for at least $23k or more. Crazy.
  6. My new Ranch Edition finally showed up a couple of weeks ago. My brother was able to pick it up in Lubbock and get it down to Snyder before the storm hit; the dealership was pretty clear that I needed to come pick it up promptly or I'd go back onto the waiting list. I was finally able to get out there this weekend to drop off the old camo one for permanent hunting duty and pick the new one up and bring it back to Houston for sporting clays and light farm duty. It's really shiny. Have a whole lot of modifications planned (new roof, front rack, gun rack, etc). Driving back from Snyder yesterday the headwinds were awful. I made 5 MPG to Abilene and then got it up to 7 MPG between Brownwood and Temple. By comparison I got ~14 MPG pulling the trailer and other mule back home at Christmas.
  7. All this 45-70 talk inspired me to go out and shoot mine this past weekend at the ranch. That thing leaves a mark on a steel gong at 100 yds. Thinking now about putting a red dot on it. The iron sights are a little bit annoying, TBH.
  8. He probably should be, especially if he leads the Rams to a few more good seasons. But I don’t think he’s quite “definitely” yet. Joe Flacco, Trent Dilfer, and Brad Johnson also won Super Bowls, so that’s not an automatic qualifier. Your freshman is definitely better than those three, though, I will agree.
  9. I’ve got one in my car (not a Silverado) and it’s pretty handy for seeing right in front of the bumper when parking and/or when there is short stuff in front of the car below the top of my hood, like chickens and toddlers.
  10. Speaking of halftime shows, I can say I witnessed the Wardrobe Malfunction in person, but the truth is, nobody in the stadium really knew what had happened. I was driving to my girlfriend’s (now Mrs CL) house after the game and they were going nuts on sports talk radio and I had on idea what they were referring to. FWIW, the Prince show way back when was the best IMO before tonight.
  11. Pretty sure Higgins learned that hands to the face move from Mixon.
  12. Don’t blame him for being upset. Holy shit.
  13. That dude is a real life leprechaun. I also bet he has serious little man syndrome and can kick anyone's ass. My son this morning said he has heard that other versions of Red Zone are better that DTV's so he has given his blessing for the switch.
  14. Yes, I agree. I originally signed up because I was a Cowboys fan living in Houston, but they've relaxed the blackout rules a little bit now and it's not as necessary as it used to be. I still like having the option to switch to other games if there was something more interesting (or close), but that's not a deal killer for me at all. My teenage son is the big RZ fan and he can't understand why anyone would watch entire games at all, even the Cowboys when they are on. (he's a fan, too) I was willing to pay for it all because of loyalty and inertia, but the customer service recently was really starting to test me. That shitty contract technician yesterday cost them a ton of money for the cost of him climbing in the attic and just doing his job. I'd say, "I hope it was worth it" but I don't see how it could have been for them.
  15. Only if you live in a high rise or have some other restriction that prevents you from getting regular Directv. Interesting article about how the contract expires next year and DTV probably won't be able to afford to renew it. Prime or Youtube would be nice. https://sportsbetting.legal/news/directv-nfl-odds-sunday-ticket-contract/
  16. I heard that sometimes it tries too hard and cares too much at work.
  17. I have both and even though I usually prefer sigs, in this case I prefer the Hellcat.
  18. Yeah, looking at Fobu now that I see they have all my local Houston channels and AT&T Sportsnet for the Astros. Both Hulu and Fobu apps work fine on my Apple TV boxes that we already use for Netflix and Prime. Literally the only thing I’m not going to have is Sunday Ticket.
  19. Yep, I have investigated and we're going to try Hulu.
  20. I have been a Directv customer for 25 years - initially got it for the Sunday Ticket - and I am thiiiiiiiiis close to canceling today due to the accumulated years of shitty customer service. I haven't been able to log in to my account in more than a year since they integrated their website with AT&T and that has very frustrating. The only way I can see my bill is through "bill pay" at my bank. What might be the last straw is that we have been replacing the roof and siding on the house for the past few weeks. As part of that they had to remove the dish and detach the coax from the underside of the soffit. All that work is finally done so - despite the website issues - I was finally able to schedule a tech to come out and reinstall it all. He aimed the dish on the roof and then farted around in the attic for few minutes and came down and said he couldn't fix it. He said that the only solution would be to drill a hole in the side of the house and run a new coax cable across the floor in front of a doorway and connect that to the television. I told him to run it through the attic like it was before and he said he couldn't do that. I told him to GTFO. The only thing stopping me is that there isn't a clearly better alternative. The only other choices in my neighborhood are U-Verse (also shitty AT&T) and Xfinity. I guess streaming is an option, but I don't know enough about it. Is Hulu any good and worth it? Looks like I can get my local channels with it.
  21. Same. Totally legal to kill one but not sure I would want to. Unless it's regularly predating your livestock or threatening you in some way... would be hard to shoot it. They have such a large range and are so sparse that I can't imagine a single cat would cause that much damage to a single rancher where it would be necessary to kill it, but 🤷‍♂️.
  22. My mother in laws birthday is today. Father in law and wife discuss going out to dinner tonight. YESTERDAY, they agree to meet at 6:15 at a restaurant that is about 15 minutes from our house. It's currently 6:08 and she's just now wrapping her mom's birthday present.
  23. I have a 40 year old 870 Wingmaster with a blued barrel and fixed modified choke. Shot it for years on dove hunts in my younger days. It's solid and pretty. Also have a 870 Express with a rough matte barrel and cheap wood and remchokes that I won in a raffle. Feels like it's going to come apart every time I shoot it.
