  1. No, the division is clinched. We'll at least get to lose a playoff game at home.
  2. Zeke decided it wasn't needed, he'd just drop a wide open ball instead.
  3. Goddam I hate this midget ewok motherfucker. Easily my least favorite player in the entire league.
  4. Went out at the end of the second quarter to drop my kid off and listed to the radio broadcast. With every flag thrown, Brad Sham is slowly inching toward Texas Tech Radio territory.
  5. This fucking midget induced dogshit is horrible.
  6. Yep, you're right. That's exactly what I said. Thanks for distilling it down so well.
  7. I originally tried to start my kids on the proverbial single shot 410 and it was a disaster with too much recoil and not enough broken targets. They took much more readily to the 28 gauge semi autos. 50% more pellets in an average load makes a huge difference hitting targets and there is hardly any recoil at all. I have an 1100 in 410 and it’s fun for taking potshots at doves in-season but that’s about all it’s good for. Definitely too empty a pattern for a beginner IMHO.
  8. This one is standard size for all gauges. 14.5" length of pull, which is about right for most "average" men of 5-10, 18- lbs. I am 6-4, 300+ lbs so every off the shelf stock is too small for me. LOL Except for custom made stocks, all of my fitted shotguns look like this at the butt end of the stock: A properly fitted gun makes a HUGE difference in results. Shooting a shotgun that doesn't fit you is like trying to run in shoes that are too small or too big. It's possible but it adds a degree of difficulty and uncertainty that hinders performance. I had no idea how important it was until I ponied up the money and had my first gun fitted. FWIW, I have an 1100 in 28 gauge that has a cut off stock. It's even shorter and feels like a toy to me but it's perfect for young kids. Unfortunately, I didn't know these little kids were coming to the ranch until I had already left home or I would have brought that one and even the younger kid probably could have shot it. Top to bottom: my fitted O/U sporting clays gun with fitted stock, Beretta A400 28 ga with standard stock, Remington 1100 28 ga with cut off stock.
  9. It is possible in just about every other sport, but just about every other sport also plays at least 2x as many games as football, so it is more noticeable in football. There are also at least 16x as many teams in the baseball and basketball tournaments, so it's much less contrived.
  10. Second best team in the country - whether it is Bama or Georgia - already played the best team in the country - whether it is Bama or Georgia - and Bama won. End of debate. Good luck next year, Georgia.
  11. Enforced by whom? I do agree with you in theory, the scholarship limits are meaningless when other expenditures are unlimited, but the powers that be would never agree to it and the lesser schools in their conferences wouldn't either because they'll still get paid no matter the level of parity. And if the NCAA tried to force them to put the genie back into the bottle, they'd just quit the NCAA and start their own association for the promotion of Tier 1 college football. Texas and OU aren't going to the SEC because they need the competition (or the self-esteem, unlike aggy, though we are getting close). They are going to the SEC for the money. Championships and competition are secondary or tertiary concerns.
  12. I can neither confirm nor deny that they ate dinner for at least two nights while only wearing their underwear.
  13. Another cool thing about going to a Cowboys game is all of the "Deep Cut" jerseys on fans: Bill Bates, Mark Tuinei, Drew Pearson, Cliff Harris. The best one I saw at the game we attended was an alternate home white James Washington #37. They have 40 years of history on the Texans so you don't really get the same experience at NRG seeing Andre Johnson and Chester Pitts jerseys. /csb
  14. I took my kids to a Cowboys game this year for my first visit to the stadium. We sat in the 300 club level and I figured out very quickly that the 200 level would have been MUCH better. The 300 level is lacking in amenities, even though the decor and finishes are nice since it is the main hallway to get into the suites. Had the Jerryworld experience now and probably won't go back to a game there again unless it's for free or there is some other occasion. Television is much better. Also living in Houston, I've been to NRG many times and NRG is a better spectating experience, too.
  15. Lots of good suggestions in this thread. Here are mine. 1) Conference champions only. None of this bullshit second chance for Bama (or Georgia or LSU or Florida).... the two best teams from one conference already get to play each other in the CCG if they didn't already play in their division. That should be it. Under that scenario Georgia choked in December. Too bad. Your conference is too big and too badass for you to expect to ever win it? Then change conferences. 2) Put all of the games on campus, or if you really need the money from a title game, move it around like the NFL has finally started doing with the super bowl. You can play the final in Miami or LA or a dome in some years, but you also need to rotate in outdoor games in New York or Chicago or Seattle or Denver in others. 3) Give guaranteed bids to certain conferences and then fill out the field with wild cards from other conferences or conferences without a CCG. Go 5+3 with wildcards from the G5. Play the first round immediately after CCG weekend and then let the losers accept bowl invitations and structure the final four the same way it is now. I think the biggest issue for the common fan is that the current system devalues conference championships. Bama versus Michigan for the natty would be fun to watch, even if it weren't competitive. Throw in two other teams from two other conferences and that would be compelling too. But setting up a rematch - even if those are the two best teams on paper - isn't as much fun. I'd much rather have seen Baylor in that game than Georgia, even if Georgia were better on paper. All that being said, someone said above that the sport was ruined by ESPN nationalizing it, and I think that is very insightful. It's all about the money now and haves and have-nots I don't see how that gets corrected, which is a much bigger discussion than just the playoff.
  16. Yep. I was driving home 7 hours yesterday and listened to the first quarter of the first game and switched to Joe Rogan when it became clear what the result would be. Did the same for the second game and also about 10 minutes of the third quarter after my podcast ran out. Then I found another podcast. Very boring for anyone who wasn't a fan of one of those four schools.... although I'm sure aggy is feeling really good today having avoided getting thrashed by Wake and seeing both of their big brothers dismantle the opposition.
  17. Just posted in the hunting thread about some young kids who got to spend a few days at the ranch this week. The 10 year old was big enough to hold my Beretta A400 28 gauge and even broke a few clay targets off of the wobble trap. He was hooked. Love to see that. In fact, I'll probably loan the gun to his dad for a while to help keep him going. The stock is way too small for me but it's just right for a little kid and there is hardly any felt recoil at all. It is perfect for teaching a young kid to shoot a shotgun without making him shy about the kick. Both of my kids learned to shoot with it and now hopefully another kid will learn to shoot with it until he graduates to larger guns and actions.
  18. Back from the ranch and back into the civilized world with functional internet to get caught up on Surly and all of my other websites. I think that big fucking pig that keeps coming to our feeder each night has a camera inside the house and knows when everyone is in bed asleep and it's safe to come get some corn, even with the porch light on. Also, my cousin brought his younger kids out for a couple of days - ages 10 and 6 - and they had a blast, even if the weather sucked. They got to sit in the blind a couple of mornings and then in the afternoon shot the shit out of the 22 and their BB gun and paper targets and then in the evening played "poker" for a couple of hours before bed. The older one was big enough to hold a shotgun, so he got to break some clays for the first time ever with a very light shooting 28 gauge SA. Fine week all around.
  19. These MF'ers know that no one is at the ranch right now. I'm sure that as soon as we show up tomorrow night they gon' be migrating south for the winter.
  20. This right here. I thought they were made for this? I thought it was part of their lore? And you're right, it's a no lose situation for them. Built in excuse. What a bunch of frauds.
  21. This is an all time aggy move. You can't lose if you don't play, especially if you don't play with a walk-on QB. After all, they own Bama. Why ruin such a great year with a loss?
  22. That neck right behind the ear looks like a pretty big target.
