  1. First saw this last week a few days ago and it's still funny. (and accurate)
  2. I have a policy of not negging any post simply for having a different opinion than me, other than an obvious troll asking for it, but if I had a different set of standards this would be a neg for the obvious lack of critical thought and the ad hominem fallacy.
  3. I actually agree with this sentiment. It kind of sounds like they are thinking about it already and trying to put something in place and running into opposition from some politicians at the moment... but I do think they are going to eventually play. Too embarrassing for them not to if the other conferences come off without a hitch.
  4. You would be an an awful actuary. Do you still drive a car?
  5. Yes, I'll reiterate: Unless you are old or already have a preexisting condition, it's not that dangerous to healthy people under 65. I encourage you to do some research on your own. I'm don't think it will kill any coaches and players, at least not beyond statistically significant level compared to the number of players and coaches who already die every season from other causes... which we already treat as an acceptable level by virtue of not canceling every season the first time someone dies. Insulting me doesn't make your argument stronger. Just because you disagree doesn't mean my opinion is "dangerous". It means you disagree. Tell me how I'm wrong. ps - I'll let you take back the Spanish Flu comparison unless you really want to go there. And also the bullshit about how we should be more scared because we have.... better medicine now?
  6. You don't need a medical degree to think critically and independently. The data is publicly available.
  7. Nobody said it's a hoax. Or an "election year takeout", whatever that means. I think it's 100% real, just overhyped and overreacted to at this point given the data we now have about the risk factors and vulnerable populations. I think caution was prudent six-months ago. Hell, I was a proponent of "15 days to flatten the curve". Because there was a lot of stuff we didn't know and we were worried it could be bad. But now that we now what we know, there's no need for society to act like it's the Spanish Flu Part 2. It's super risky to certain populations and very low risk to everyone else. Young and healthy people under age 65 are unlikely to die from it and there are no special complications or symptoms compared to other pathogens and the prevalence of complications does not appear to be that much higher than for other infections, which wasn't that high to begin with. Plus, treatments have gotten better and fewer people are dying in the hospital like they were in April. The "hoax" part has to do with the continued hyped reaction to it from the media despite the data to the contrary. If it bleeds it leads and if it makes a divisive republican president look bad, all the better, but there is simply no justification for the continued hype and overreaction given the data we have now. Young people testing positive is meaningless. Most of them aren't going to be sick and none of them are going to die. There is no need for positive tests to be cited as some kind of bad omen or evidence of a "mistake".
  8. I can't believe how many gullible sheep there are out there who don't know how risk works, and apparently on this site. it's only going to cause games to get cancelled if the people in charge panic and overreact. It's not going to kill all the players and coaches. Most of them will catch it and get over it, much like... any other respiratory virus. As I have said over and over, MLB is doing a great job by not panicking and canceling everything simply because there are positive tests. And they are showing people that infections among the non-elderly and non-infirm are not the big crisis the media has made them out to be. The presupposition that "People caught it! This is a terrible crisis!" is false.
  9. This it right here. People are terrified because the media has relentlessly pushed the idea that catching it is a death sentence. It's not. Unless you are old or already sick, it's not even as bad as the goddam flu and we don't breathlessly report every positive flu test that comes back and we sure as hell don't test people who aren't sick outside of medical settings. It's an enormous overhyped nothingburger for most people. Do some people catch it and get really sick? Yes. But that happens with other illnesses, too. This one is not special.
  10. Auburn fans don't care at all when we remind them of Cam Newton. Just like us Astros fans don't either.
  11. This doesn’t matter to the naysayers. You can’t compare such a serious situation to other causes of deaths, see. Those other deaths don’t matter as much, so just one death from the COVID is too many. Because this is so serious. We’re not talking about relative risk, denier, we’re talking about this specific risk. Ergo any data you might have that provides a wider context is irrelevant. You don’t have a clue. Ask my 70 year old mom. I don’t want her to die because kids can get myocarditis from any infection. I want to keep her around and that means we have to panic and not get back to normalcy ever until no one ever gets sick ever again. Go fuck yourself troll.
  12. I think it's more generally about the process of having a season and is biased in the direction of, "This is a lost cause but they're too proud to admit it." The premise being that the only reasonable outcome is CASES! and DEATHS! and SUFFERING! therefore the only reasonable decision is to cancel in advance because the smart people all agree that there's no chance it might actually work out OK.
  13. Has nothing to do with FBS because there is no "NCAA championship" for FBS football. But all other championships are are canceled. Volleyball, Cross Country, Soccer, Field Hockey. I think the conferences can still play, just no NCAA tournaments beyond conference play.
  14. My god you are a bitter little pussy negging everything you disagree with. Just let go of the narrative you’re clinging to. The world isn’t about to end. https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/29648030/marlins-sidelined-coronavirus-feeling-great-manager-don-mattingly-says
  15. What the hell are you talking about? "Handful of cities"? They are playing in all of the regular cities, except that the Blue Jays relocated to Buffalo because the border is closed. But yeah - they are doing a great job in not panicking and bucking the hysteria that has gripped so many people in this country, including apparently several on this board. Not sure if you've noticed, but the Marlins postponed 6 games and since then they've actually played 9. And here's the kicker: none of those who tested positive have died and many of them are about to come back and play some more. THE HORROR! WHAT A DISASTER!
  16. MLB has done a tremendous job thus far not panicking and just treating it like an ordinary illness or injury. Which it is.
  17. That’s cool. How many of those people died?
  18. OK. You win. I cannot compete with your armory of fallacies.
