  1. There are legitimate reasons for a virus like this to be in a lab. Biological warfare is down the lost a few spots for all the reasons already mentioned Could be that they were using it to work on a SARS vaccine or whatever research and there was an accident and it got out. All that being said, there are wet markets all over China and the coincidence of that particular virus coming out in a wet market in that particular city where there is a lab where they specifically do research on coronaviruses from bats is very hard to believe.
  2. I personally don't think it was released on purpose, although I am open to the proposition. But I also am very doubtful that it came from a market that coincidentally just happens to be in the same town as the only BSL-4 lab* in the entire country that specifically just happens to do research on coronaviruses from bats. It's much more likely that it escaped from the lab in some way, whether a worker there didn't clean up properly, or someone inside the lab got sick and didn't know it and spread it at home, or an animal escaped, or whatever. But it seems like too big of a coincidence to me to have just happened at the market and have nothing to do with the lab at all. * From Wikipedia:
  3. My father in law - of yesterday's "I'm a grown man" fame - wants to take my kids golfing tomorrow and is pretty insistent. I guess when he shows up in the morning to get them and is walking back out to the car, I'll shout, "Nice knowing you Grandpa!" All these cavalier attitudes are driving me crazy.
  4. NSIAP because this is really good. https://www.washingtonpost.com/graphics/2020/world/corona-simulator/ (not going to just paste the text because the graphics are what's important)
  5. Wife's "home office" is on our barndominium at the farm about 10 minutes away from the house; mine is actually at home. We both work from "home" regularly and still haven't killed each other yet. If we were both inside the house 24x7 it would be terrible.
  6. Also, I'm pretty sure I can still go to the skeet range with my self-puller and it still be social distancing, so that's what I am going to do later today after we watch church on TV.
  7. I just ordered a few more cases of my usual 4 calibers from LAX Ammo. Shipping is sightly more expensive and takes longer than SG, but their in-house brands are pretty decent quality and cheaper if you have time to wait. Since I already have a lot of stuff in storage I figured I could wait. (assuming society doesn't collapse and UPS still delivers) Don't look for any 5.56 55gr V-Max because I got their last three cases.
  8. I told my wife this and she thought I was crazy, but yeah, it wouldn't surprise me at all. Also for our Little League season to be completely canceled too. Already told my 7th grader not to get his hopes up about finishing track season. We'll throw discus on our own for 9 months and then he'll be that much further ahead for next track season when it finally starts up again.
  9. Question about tests for you medical guys. Is this test similar to others where they test for the presence of antibodies? Specifically, if that is the case, if someone is “asymptotic”, how do we know that they are actually currently “infected” or is all we really know Is that they were exposed to the virus previously and now they are immune for lack of a better term? In other words, what is the difference between being asymptomatic and being immune?
  10. My wife tried to talk to her 71 y.o. dad about keeping our distance and he shut her down with, “I’m a grown man, I’ll make my own decisions.” (yes, earlier today she had said she didn’t care but apparently she changed her mind?)
  11. This is correct. I keep hearing people say, "But nobody here is sick?!?!?!" To which I reply, "Exactly."
  12. I tried to talk to Mrs CL earlier today about not spending time with her parents. She didn't appreciate the question and was insistent that our kids are going to go visit occasionally while they are out of school the next couple of weeks. And in related news, our neighbors are currently having a birthday party for their daughter who just turned 5. There are at least 10 different families there right now with about 15-20 kids total. People just don't get it.
  13. They all sleep with the pigs and chickens inside the house. They have literal herd immunity to all kinds of nasty illnesses.
  14. Exact same reason everyone in Lubbock (and the rest of the state outside of SE Texas) was buying out the gasoline during Harvey two years ago. One stupid MF'er started panicking and next thing you know everyone else is doing the same thing. There were no production shortages and no one driving more than usual, they just started buying it out because everyone else was doing it too and it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. Everyone's worried that the stations are out of gasoline because they're buying it all as soon as it is delivered.
  15. I'm feeling increasingly smug about all of the 45 ACP and 9mm and 5.56 I've got stockpiled. Plenty of guns and plenty of bullets just in case Negan decides to make a move while we are all socially distancing.
  16. Mrs CL went grocery shopping Thursday night and loaded up on lots of non-perishable processed transfat foods to last a few weeks and I swear my two boys aged 12.9 and 10 are going to eat it all by the end of the weekend. They are bottomless pits.
