  1. Thanks. I'd put my experience at "seasoned rookie", ha. I've done ribs, chicken wings, and turkeys. This would be my first venture into a hunk of red meat is why I was asking. Yes, I have temp probes. Ballpark timing to reach "117-120" on an 8-10 lb roast? Big green egg.com says "To approximate the total cooking time, allow about 11 to 12 minutes per pound for rare and 14 to 15 minutes per pound for medium rare."
  2. Anybody have a go-to recipe/instructions for smoking a prime rib in an Egg (technically a Vision)?
  3. I procrastinated and the 5 wt tfo is no longer available. Have to choose 4 or 6. Im leaning toward a 4 based on some light reading. I think the question is which is easiest to learn to cast on?
  4. That grand slam line isn't cheap, but I guess nothing about this hobby is supposed to be. Seems like I'd be better off with the TFO unless you'd recommend changing the line on that too...
  5. Does this one fit the bill? I like the price, but is that because it’s 4 wt? I know nothing if that’s not obvious. https://www.outlandusa.com/p/redington-490-4-crosswater-outfit-wcrosswater-reel-4wt-90-4pc
  6. My FIL asked for a "basic fly rod and reel" for Christmas. I'm sure it's been discussed here, but recommendations for a decent starter package? Preferably on the economical side. He lives in Austin. He grew up in Corpus and has a lot of fishing experience, but I don't know that he's every tried fly fishing so consider him a novice.
  7. I need a new heat deflector for my Vision grill. Previously had the lava stone, but it seems to be out of stock everywhere. Any recs on an alternative?
  8. I haven't been, but I've heard this place is really good: https://www.eatwellatx.com/
  9. How much does it cost to get all that chrome polished? Just curious.
  10. Where was this? We back up to a greenbelt and have a pool. This is a fear of mine. So far I've only seen a rat snake (id'd in this thread) and what I believe to be a ribbon snake (pic below) based on the google.
  11. Do you mind sharing your approximate cost for 4 nights all inclusive?

Revisiting this because we decided to give it another try this past Saturday evening after seeing reviews are trending positive. We got queso and guac to start. Queso had good flavor, and my only complaint was the temperature could've been hotter. The guac tasted nice and fresh, but could've used some spice. We didn't mind because that meant our kids were able to eat it. My wife and I split the taco sampler. The birria and campechano tacos were stand outs. The Al Pastor was good, but not great. Did not like the charro beans we got as the side. Kids' plates looked good, and I ate most of their rice because it was tasty. I wasn't a big fan of my mexican martini because it was heavy on the olives for my taste (couldn't complain because I did order a martini), but enjoyed my wife's platinum margarita. All that to say, we enjoyed our meal overall and would say it's worth a try. Service was very fast and friendly. I think figuring out the right order could take it up a notch. Their breakfast looks good as well. Hoping this place continues to improve given its proximity to us.
  13. I'll be out of town. Thanks for taking the time to offer it up.
  14. Interested. Mind sharing which Tuesday in June?
  15. What is that puff of smoke at the end? The demons leaving his body?
  16. Classic example of a classic that's been discussed so many times. Went to Central Market for dinner/kid's school playdate tonight. They hand us a $5 off any $25 of groceries coupon when we check out at the food counter. Fast forward to us finished eating, and we go inside to buy some flowers for a baby shower she has tomorrow. We ring up $24 and change. I comment that if we add a pack of gum we'll actually save money. She instead looks to the magazines, picks up some big/thick fashion one, looks at the price, and hands it to the cashier. $10.99. She at least acknowledges, and laughs about it. 1/2 price magazine!
  17. You're aware this is because she rage threw it, right? Very nice of you to give her the out by assuming it was the right click issue (which is a valid point imo).

We stuck with Joann's to try it out. I thought it was pretty good. They have happy hour 7 days/week from 5-7, which meant half price apps and some decent $5 margaritas. Queso was good, their ribeye steak fajitas were probably the highlight, and my SIL said she liked her chicken tinga tacos but I didn't try them. We'd heard from a friend their pozole is excellent, but apparently that's a special they do which wasn't available last night.
  19. Thanks for the replies. I don't really have a choice on the timing. My wife and I can't leave until after July 4th for work reasons, and we need to be back a few days ahead of school starting for the boys. Thanks @Orale, I signed up and posted a couple questions to the expat site. Just what I need, another message board in my life, ha! @Napoleon I'll shoot you a PM. I was looking somewhat exclusively at Palermo, but good to know Recoleta may be an option as well. I'd like to have our boys play with other kids rather than a nanny/babysitter situation. I found this place: https://www.clubdeamigos.org.ar/ and have requested information. I understand the schools have their 2 week winter break in the second half of July. I'm hoping that means maybe there are camp type options around then for parents to put their kids in, and not the opposite that everything like that shuts down.

Thoughts on Joann’s fine foods on south congress? Alternatives in the area if the vote is no bueño?
  21. There seem to be 2 Argentina threads, but I'm going with this one as it has the most recent reply. I've got it stuck in my head that I want to take the family down to Argentina for around 5-6 weeks starting in July. Rent an apartment in BA for 3-4 weeks, hire a nanny or put kids in daycare, wife and I work as little as possible to keep our jobs, explore BA, take weekend trips, and then take actual vacation for 1-2 weeks before heading home for the kids to start school. I used to be fluent, but am down to conversational due to inactivity. Hoping this would help. My kids are 3 and 6, both in Spanish immersion programs so the language would be no surprise to them. My wife would need to practice before we go, but would not be nervous about it. I'm aware it's technically winter, but average high/low of 59/47 according to google sounds glorious compared to Austin at that time. We also like to ski, so might fill a weekend with that. Is this a great idea or just ok? Recommended neighborhood (seems to be Palermo)? Think it will be easy to find care for the kids? Any real safety concerns above and beyond travel to any foreign big city? Thoughts on the best weekend trips? Helpful websites? I welcome it all.
  22. We stayed at Meadow Lake Resort & Condos. We had a nice big 2 bedroom Condo (more than we needed for my wife and 2 very young kids). There's a golf course on property, at least 1 restaurant that I recall, and a couple community center type places with pools and hot tubs. It was May for us so the outdoor pools were still too cold, but I think they had indoor too. Certainly not the Ritz or anything, but it was nice enough, close to grocery store and town.
  23. Are you saying a paper calendar at home, or do y'all use an app? An app you or anybody on here likes? Preferably something that can be accessed via mobile and desktop. I'd like to get the shared calendar going, but I can't access personal google stuff from my work computer so it rules out google calendar. I don't like the iphone native calendar for adding events.
  24. Best Texas bourbon, preferably expensive? Wife’s boss is trying to impress somebody, but also wants it to be from Texas.
