    Dallas | Tacos

Went to Revolver Taco on Friday. As stated many times before, it was excellent. We got one of every taco except the veggie. The carnitas and pato were probably my favorites. Definitely interested in their tasting menu. Has anybody on here done it?
  2. Nice. Jealous and hope y'all enjoy. I'm sure the waiter will direct you accordingly, but the Milhojas de Ventresca was a thing of delicious beauty:
  3. Good point on the passport. I think if I get that in the works by early next week we should be fine. Might have to pay the minimum expedite fee.
  4. We will be flying out of New York (after a wedding) on June 10th, and need to be back home in Dallas on June 17 or 18th. This will be our first real trip with our son that will be just over 3 months old. My thought is that we would want easily accessible daytime activities like hiking, walkable town/downtown, and good food and drink is a must. I imagine there's a chance we'll end up hanging out at the hotel for a full day to truly relax, so a nice pool with good service and on site food would be good. Willing to move once, but having the kiddo means we don't want to packing/unpacking too much. Initial thoughts with outdoorsy type options: Lake Louise/Banff/Calgary Bozeman/Big Sky/Yellowstone (I'm a bit wary of Yellowstone because I'm assuming it will be super crowded and quality lodging will be hard to come by) Jackson Hole/Yellowstone/Grand Teton Lake Tahoe City type: Portland/Seattle/Vancouver (I'm aware Portland is not that close to the others and a flight might be involved) Oaxaca As you can see my initial thoughts are focused more in the North and West (aside from Oaxaca) as I haven't spent much time in the region. We're pretty well traveled otherwise. Go to Nola all the time, did Zion/Grand Canyon/Sedona a couple years ago, lived in NYC for 10 years so East Coast is pretty well covered, Texas/New Mexico/Colorado well covered, have been all over California. What say the Surly? Where would you stay?

    Dallas | Italian

Went to Carbone's last night for the first time. Thought it was solid. Got the veal parm and shrimp scampi linguine as entrees. Veal parm was pretty good, but we both thought the shrimp linguine with its simple but tasty sauce was better. Lucia and Nonna are on a different level IMO, but Carbone's does seem like a nice dependable option.
  6. Has Marwin always sucked this hard against breaking balls and sliders? That and fastballs nowhere near the strike zone would be all he'd getting from me these days.
  7. Look forward to reliving that on ESPN. WTF?
  8. Agreed. Pretty difficult to walk through at any time and not be frustrated by the time you get through it. Unfortunately you've got to see it, and it's pretty much impossible to avoid completely if you're going to a show. Going through recruiting many moons ago, Ernst & Young touted their Times Square location as a selling point. I thought the same as a naive Texan on my first visit. I did not go with them, and thank my lucky stars. I can't begin to fathom having to deal with those crowds on daily basis, especially during long ass busy season days/nights.
  9. Do you remember the cost? Edit: The interweb is your friend: "OMAKASE: Chef’s Tasting. Requires 24-48 hours notice. Minimum 4 people. 120 / person. Michelle will personally shop for and design a menu based on your preferences and the freshest produce available. At the Chef’s Table, you watch and enjoy a culinary performance entirely executed by our Executive Chef and Founder. Prepare to be amazed. Wine or sake pairings available for an additional fee."
  10. Thought the leadoff Springer Dinger might have lit a fire last night, but obviously it wasn't enough. The call being upheld on Bregman at first felt like a real dagger to me last night. Little things can spark rallies.
  11. My favorite these days. Aberlour 16. I like the 16 best, 12 second, and 18 third (which is nice for price considerations).
  12. Queso especial starter, Migas & fajitas, and 2 mexican martinis at Trudy's is one of my favorite meals. Don't hate.
  13. Walking from those hotels to your theater will be faster than the subway. You should take the subway when going substantial distances. Walk everywhere you can (comfortably of course). If you need to stop and check your map, step to one side or another.
  14. Not really concerned, I just wish they'd start hitting to make the games more enjoyable to watch.
  15. For anybody wondering, the boil was thoroughly enjoyable. Weather was obviously nice. The boilers were from Katy, TX. Crawfish were good size and seasoned well. Only complaint was they just did one huge batch of sides (corn, sausage, and potatoes) and kept them in a cooler. They tasted good, but they were cold. I'd guess I went through 8 or 9 lbs.
  16. A few mentions in the Steak thread brought this to mind (Eddie V's $1/$2 oysters and Al Biernat's which I haven't been to). What are your favorites? Appreciate both food and drink happy hours. What's the best outdoor/patio place with a great happy hour? Anywhere with live music? Across the street from my work is Tortaco, which has $3 draft beers and $2 off cocktails. Nice patio (for downtown) and good bar service. Free chips and salsa (warm green salsa, but I like it). I'm probably biased because it's so convenient for me. I like the daily deals at Bryan St. Tavern, but only been a couple times when the weather wasn't great. Have heard it's a good place to sit out back.
  17. Anybody gone with a really young kid? (like less than 12 months) If so, how did it go? I think I'd be a little concerned about the air pollution. I only ask because I'm itching to go back, but just had a kid a month ago.
  18. We did not have time for a Napali Coast hike. We did do both a boat cruise (through blue dolphin I think), as well as a helicopter tour that of course included the coast. I thought the views from the water were more awe inspiring. Only referring to the Napali Coast. The helicopter tour was badass, and obviously covered a lot more. Note on the boat cruise though, would probably stay away if you get sea sick. I don't and didn't, but many others did.
  19. Great city with great food, but there's no way my 4 days there could compete with a local. I will submit the Ultimate Coconut Cake at the Peninsula Grill as easily the best piece of cake I've ever had. We had one shipped in for our wedding. We did not eat dinner there, so can't comment on their main menu.
  20. To each their own. I don't notice the "labor" at all. Just go on auto-pilot and murder those delicious buggers. Would also say part of the fun is the social aspect of peeling, eating, and drinking beer with dirty hands at a big long table with other enthusiasts.
  21. This may seem odd, but I think it's also nice have more casual/lower end options when you just one a couple rolls with some beer and sake. On that note I submit Oishii. Rolls are pretty cheap, but you can definitely still rack up a bill if you get into the special rolls and high end sushi/sashimi.
  22. Anybody going to this? Happen to know if the people doing the boiling are good at it? I think I'm going to give it a shot no matter what, but figured I'd ask. https://www.texasexes.org/event/dallas/2897

    Dallas | Burgers

Very much enjoyed the burger I had recently at The Heights Lakewood. We liked everything we had there, including the french onion soup and salmon. I may have been wearing some rose colored glasses because it's quite close to my house and the kitchen is open late so I was very excited to begin with.

    Dallas | Steak

Only been to Nick and Sam's once and was completely underwhelmed by both the food and service. I'm still somewhat new to the city and have more exploring to do, but Bob's on Lemmon is easily the best steakhouse experience I've had so far. I think it obviously depends on what type of scene you're looking for though. Al Biernat's is next on my list based on this thread.
