  1. "Unarmed" is nonsense and you and I both know that. The police definition of "armed" is broad and it's a CYA catch-all. Car? Weapon. Knife in the glovebox 40 yards away from the shooting? Armed. Pocket knife? Armed. Golf clubs in the trunk? Armed. Find me some stats where the person who was shot was brandishing or using the weapon. You won't find them, because the first instinct of police in these incidents is to immediately obfuscate and cover up. There is no way to accurately quantify this, and that's by design. Bottom line is that blacks are killed by police officers at about 2.5x the rate that whites are, and this is in a country where whites own guns at roughly double the rate of blacks.
  2. "Other countries have some bad police too" is reductionist, simpleton bullshit. I'll spare everyone a multiple paragraph self-fellating homage to my own world travels as they've already sat through yours, but I can tell you that I've been around the world enough and talked to enough people to know that minority's fear of police is exponentially worse in America than most places. The US kills people at 30x the rate of Germany. 3.5x the rate of Canada. 4x the rate of Australia, which is a good cultural comparison to the US. It's not naive to think that we can bring those numbers down. The racism will fade to background noise as boomers die off, we become a majority-minority country, and they become marginalized. Once the bigots get pushed to the background, the obstacle will be people like you who sit back, shrug your shoulders and say "lol at people who think we can't do anything about the fact that our police kill people 3000% more often than our counterparts in Western Europe". Look, if you want to continue to be a passive-permissive part of the problem, so be it. But telling people who want to change things that it can't be done or that they're naive is actively and intentionally counterproductive. Find another avenue to make yourself feel like the smartest guy in the room instead of standing in the way of those who would like people of all colors, but especially those of color, to live in a world where they aren't terrified of the people they pay to protect them.
  3. Naw. The vast majority of people with your political views are also just fine with police brutality against minorities. I just play the odds.
  4. Calling it the "Covid Generation" for kids born between 2017 and into the next few years is a bit silly. My two year old and infant have no idea what's going on. My two year old might vaguely remember the masks (which he thinks are funny) but he's not going to associate them with anything. Covid generation would be any kid that's in at least pre-school through high-school, whatever years that ends up being.
  5. Man what the fuck, who hacked Onboard's account?
  6. Have you traveled much overseas? A police force isn't murderous by default. It's murderous when citizens tacitly permit it, if not celebrate it. There are police departments all over the world that manage not to murder minorities and dogs for sport. I don't think it's "pollyanna" to think that we can move in that direction. Your attitude part of the problem. It's not as bad as the racists and the hicks, but "trying to fix it via social pressure lol how naive!" is permissive in its own way.
  7. "Not really. The biggest correlation for police shootings is sex. " This doesn't really mean anything. It's like denying that the NBA is disproportionately black because the most common traits of NBA players are height and jumping ability. Damnit that didn't edit right in tapa but you get the point
  8. Let me preface by saying I don't want businesses to get burned down. I don't care to debate how prevalent that is or who is doing it, but I think a good amount of that is opportunists not associated with BLM up through bad actors looking to frame things a certain way. When I say it's "good" that affluent white people are getting uncomfortable with the situation, I mean that it's good. Police officers, who work for and are payrolled by the citizens, are murdering people of color without cause or restraint right in front of our eyes. And as a society, we have basically said that we are permissive of it based on who we vote for and what we support. I'm not saying this as a partisan thing. Police are murderous thugs in just about every city in the country, regardless of party leadership. But we have generally accepted and passively allowed criminal behavior from our police forever. Because it doesn't affect most of us. As a society, this is our fault. We should be uncomfortable that on a weekly basis in our country white men in positions of power callously murder people of color with very few consequences. Social change doesn't come when people are comfortable. Shit doesn't get fixed when we're sitting around watching Dancing With the Stars and eating pizza.
  9. I'm on the other side of this one. I think that the extra effort to do a Zoom or GoToMeeting weeds out conversations that aren't really that important. I've worked from home for about 8 years and the important stuff always gets taken care off via web meetings and I avoid probably 10+ hours a week of useless meetings that office dwellers have. It probably depends on your industry and profession, though.
  10. DeMar seems to be reverting back to frustrating DeMar from last year as the season wears on. I'm at the point with Patty where I'm irritated every time the play called has him as ball handler. For the life of me I don't understand why DJ doesn't get more run as the primary ball handler. Good things happen when he does.
  11. What if KD lifted weights and didn't look like a national geographic kid all grown up?
  12. Starting to look like something. This is the hard part. Been pretty patiently waiting all winter, but now that it looks like a pool and I'm in the home stretch, it's hard not to count days until we can jump in this mofo. Got a few more days to finish the boulder/water feature (it stacks up higher and goes all the way across the back side including the hot tub facia). Then it's the pool finish, and equipment set. Hoping for early April to jump in.
  13. Is the $3600 per kid stimmy means tested like the rest of it? TIA
  14. The only trait Austinites have diversity in is who or what they like to fuck and what model iPhone they have.
  15. My understanding is that a cuck would be the type of guy that watches another man insult and belittle and humiliate his wife, not do anything about it, and shortly thereafter dedicate significant amounts of time to advance the other man's career and finances.
  16. I chumped out, didn't like the general momentum or feel. In at 70.25, out at 71.25.
  17. Would you do it with or without the Simpsons, if you were to say fuck it and do it?
  18. Alright, I'm in Roblonks for $70.25 with a limit sell at $90 of part of it, keeping some on the table. Let's fuckin go. Do your thing, Reddit.
  19. Stock market is doing enough of that lately. Have you been able to actually buy any yet? Still unavailable on my brokerages.
  20. Structure will be detached but relatively close to the house. I know the concrete is at least 10" thick because I can see it, it's on a hill. Hard to describe, but it's definitely at least that deep. I can run water and electricity where I want it to come into the structure from existing pipe and electrical without burying anything. The previous owner has a PVC spigot right behind where I want it as well as two outlets. We're talking single digit feet. They'll come in the "back" side of the bar which is one of the sides that has a full wall. I'm pretty sure they had the same idea as I do and prepped for it, but never got to it. So that's not really a concern. The TV is all through Roku via WiFi. So given all that, nothing will have to come through the slab. Honestly I think the structure will be heavy enough not to move around with the wind. We're talking 1,200+ lbs of lumber alone. But, best practice seems like it would dictate anchoring it, just trying to figure out if that's going to create risk to the slab itself.
  21. Settle down there Roblox CEO guy, it was a passing joke.
