  1. See. Sensitive. If it makes you feel any better I'm a 40 something data analyst!

    Cuomo

I wonder if we could find 3 examples of different posters lauding Cuomo at any point since 1/1/20. I know I didn't. I'll very rarely have nice things to say about New Yorkers
  3. Sorry, I just know you sales guys are sensitive types, what with your entire perception of self-worth being a quarter-to-quarter journey. Hope your feelings are ok, I know you're stressed out.
  4. FYi - If you want to understand what the American farming industry would look like without the welfare it's given, go to a Farmer's market on any given Saturday and look at the prices.
  5. We can get whatever product you farm cheaper from other countries whether South America or China or whatever. The only reason the American farming industry exists is because the government pays to keep our crop prices down to compete with what it would cost to import them. Those subsidies, which are a nice way of saying welfare, are 100% the opposite of capitalism. I'm not trying to be a dick, but I don't think you really grasp the world "socialism" and its relationship with our country. It wouldn't "be hard". Without the socialist aid we give out to American farmers, the industry wouldn't exist. At least not in any form resembling what it looks like today. It doesn't diminish your job or your hard work at all. But it's textbook socialism.
  6. Farming. You would be unemployed without subsidiaries [sic].
  7. - Man that works in the most heavily socialized and welfare-ized industry in the country
  8. His base is calling him a RINO for refusing to support an attempted coup of our government. It's an appeasement move for the far right part of his base. It's not a huge mystery. He's at risk of getting primaried to his right and he knows it.
  9. We're alone on our no-mask island with the dumbest poorest state in the country that gave us that dumb bastard Brett Favre. Go Texas!
  10. So recently I was made aware that there is a Gorzyzsky middle school in south Austin. Gorzyzsky was my band teacher for the one year I took it in 6th grade. My two random thoughts: - I guess that makes me old as fuck that schools are being named after my old teachers - She was a bitch
  11. Right on. And FWIW ( @Brew ) I prefer this too, just like both of you. My argument was never that a wealth tax is better, and I understand the difficulty in the wealth tax. Or at least conceptually why it's difficult. But I'll take either one, and this is the one on the table now. Let's fix the problem of the super wealthy not contributing now, and we can perfect it later. Guilty Nope Nope
  12. Mask wearers are a lot less likely to shoot the place up because they don't like the policy.
  13. Yeah, I'd prefer that they mandate it too. But I think they understand that it's completely toothless unless they want to actually physically confront maskless folks about it. They're trying to walk the tightrope by "strongly encouraging" and having people in front handing masks out, but I also understand that they don't want to endanger their employees with confrontation. Despite Target saying hey have a mask mandate, I'm pretty confident that if someone walked into most Targets in Texas maskless, the store isn't going to physically confront them. It's all mostly going to end the same - stores doing the best they can to get people to mask up, short of actually physically intervening.
  14. I assume you're including cap gains in income
  15. Great. Then what are you arguing? I've fully conceded your point that a wealth tax has issues and hurdles for the entirety of our discussion. You're saying "it's not easy!" when I never said it was. My point throughout this entire discussion is that whether not it's easy is immaterial to the discussion. Do it anyway. Most important things are difficult.
  16. There's nothing to listen to. He's saying "it'll be difficult to do" and I'm saying "sure it'll be difficult but do it anyway". Like I said originally, I'm not sure what his point is. It's going to be hard and smart people will have to work around some things and figure some methodologies and guidelines out. Nobody is arguing that. What I'm arguing is "so what? do it anyway". The government has lots of existing rules and processes that have levels of subjectivity and arbitrariness (property taxes, the aforementioned estate taxes, etc.) and yet we still manage to implement those. My two arguments are: - Sure it's hard, but it's doable. Do it anyway. - When you have $50mm in assets, it's not really that important that we get your valuation perfect. No matter what you're still going to be in the absolute upper upper echelons of wealth in America. Knowing more than I do about tax code doesn't change either of those two bullets. Perfect is the enemy of good here.
  17. I can't blame HEB for this. The state of Texas completely sold them down the river and left them in a no-win situation where they would be alienating a significant portion of their customer base no matter what they decide. Just a complete abdication of responsibility and courage by our state government.
  18. None of what you said is prohibitive of a wealth tax. I'm sure there will be a cottage valuation optimization industry just like ProTax fights housing appraisals every year. Who gives a shit? Lot of words but I still don't see anything prohibitive. Just gnashing of teeth that because it won't be perfect we shouldn't do it. "It will be difficult and will have some challenges, so let's not do it and just let the rich keep destroying the fabric of our country!"
  19. If you gave 10 lawyers a house they'd come back with 10 different valuations on it too. So what? We've been taxing property value for decades and yet somehow we manage to survive. We'll find a way to make it if we have to put values on other assets too. And frankly, I don't really give a shit if we overvalue someone who is worth $45 million by 10 percent and they have to pay a million bucks. $50 million is high enough that even if you're within a little bit of margin of error on your valuation, you're still rich as fuck and will manage to put food on your table with your remaining $44 million. It's a nonissue. Concern trolling that the 1% has somehow sold to a portion of the 99% that they're bending over the desk and rawdogging. Don't be a mark.
  20. Hahaha. Donald Jr. Trump. These people are so fucking stupid.
  21. Yep. Same thing as in any STEM type field. The ones that understand the science make good money in the lab or at the computer. The ones that kinda understand the concepts and are good with messaging and business are in sales (LOL, not taking a shot at you) The ones that are both own the company.
