  1. Nope. It's a "who cares". Maybe we have to get boosters every year or whatever, but if/when we get to that point, Covid isn't a thing anymore.
  2. For all you know I wasn't even talking about you, but awfully nice of you to go ahead and jump on the hook yourself. Good fish.

    Cuomo

I mostly just skimmed this thread but I think I can recap it pretty well The Surly Trump squad: We care very, very deeply about the sexual safety and autonomy of women. It is basically the single most important thing in the world to us. We are appalled by skeezy men in powerful positions dcar; Obama is a racist!! Every single person on the thread: Cuomo fucking sucks, recall him Surly Trump squad: WHY WON'T DEMOCRATS RENOUNCE CUOMO. SEE, BOTH SIDES ENABLE THEIR BAD POLITICIANS. *drops mic and goes back to watching OANN*
  4. I think we'll be well beyond 1C by the end of March. The three pharmas will be shipping shots to fully vaccinate 70 million people in March. Even if we only get 80% of those into arms that puts us at 80 million or so fully vaccinated (cumulative) by end of month. That's over a third of the US population done with by EOM, and more than a third of those who will actually get the shot. I think we'll see general public availability in most states before end of month. I think the states are sandbagging it and we're going to see 1C in a couple of weeks.
  5. Damn, man. I think all of us realize that Austin does a lot of silly, overly-woke type things and blows money like a drunken Stepford wife. But this is structural incompetence that I figured they were better than. Like surely they have someone competent running the treatment plants for the substance most critical to human life. Pretty terrible.
  6. The great thing about this thread is that sometimes I forget exact usernames for the most racist hicks on surly, but then this pops back into page 1 to remind us all.
  7. Well, around now-ish is where I'd expect to see hospitalizations and death decrease due to the most vulnerable hitting decent vax numbers. We're going to start to lose hospitalizations as an honest indicator of community spread, and will have to start looking at cases and positivity rates, which we all know are flawed. Statistically that sucks, but it's great that it's happening.
  8. Mine drops packages off then makes sure to drive in the grass inside my circle drive as much as possible on his way out.
  9. Between playing whack a mole with variants, kids, and those who won't get vaccinated, I agree that we probably won't see true herd immunity ever. But we will knock it down to a level where it's just something that pops up and takes a few thousand old or compromised people per year. Not that that's a "win". But we as a society have decided that's an acceptable risk level with other viruses like the flu, and a minor endemic seasonal virus will get us back to pre-2020 normal fairly soon.
  10. Is today's Republican electorate the Dumbest in modern history? ...
  11. Yeah. I think early on it was close to 35-40%, but I'm too lazy to look it up. Those are really great numbers. If 70% of people take it, we're going to kick Covid in the dick real soon.
  12. I think the authors of the study would tell you themselves that the study isn't comprehensive enough to figure out the exact threshold at which we should re-open schools. They'd really need to do a 50-state study for that or at least a larger scope than two states, because as they noted, the threshold was different between the two states they looked at. It was and it continues to be a failure of our government throughout this entire pandemic that we aren't spending as much money as necessary to do studies like this but on a larger scale. We should have had this data six months ago. We have the underlying data and the money to do it. And to break it down more granularly by age as you're suggesting. It's a travesty that we haven't done it, but as just this thread alone demonstrates, the anti-science undercurrent in our country is dangerous. What it does tell us is that schools do increase community spread except when virus prevalence is exceptionally low. Which was of course the obvious conclusion all along for anyone not treating this as a partisan or personal issue. The discussion all along should have been "School is hugely important, so how do we protect students and teachers to mitigate as much risk as possible, and how do we get teachers vaccinated as quickly as possible?". Instead, it turned into "hurr durr schools don't spread Covid" idiocy.
  13. "I've been basing my assertion that schools create no virus spread off of my theoretical fantasy land where every child and teenager wears a mask correctly and socially distances properly 100% of the time. This study used real world data based on how people actually behave. It's not fair!!!!"
  14. "I prefer my studies based off of theoretical perfect-world mitigation scenarios, not what's actually happening in the community" - Statsguy Anastasis.
  15. We love our essential workers. Thank you teachers and retail workers, you are our heroes, you kept society running while we sat in our McMansions and Zoomed about synergy and low hanging fruit. Now get to the back of the fucking vaccine line, bitch!
  16. I've never gotten any sort of high or relaxing feeling from Hydrocodone or Tylenol 2. I don't have any bad side effects either, they just do nothing.
  17. I didn't really consider you to be part of #TeamShriek but if you want to be in the club, I'm not stopping you.
  18. Any idea how to sign up for this? Have a family member that wants the vaccine badly because he's in a job that has high contact with the public, but has moral qualms with using my channels to get his shot. This might be a great compromise for him.
  19. Yeah. I agree, this thread is a pretty good example of what happens when a bunch of people do nothing but post tweets and shriek about stuff.
  20. Nevermind. Figured it out. Thanks for nothing.
