  1. @immamac the Discord shit is broken for me. If I click the "Accept as (whatever that username is)", it just takes me back to the home page with a popup at top that says "You are already a member of the discord" or something.
  2. I guess I'll be waiting awhile. For those of you that have the capacity to read past the headline, I'd suggest reading the Calder study where they show that schools being open correlates with an increase in community spread of 30+ percent of one SD.
  3. Recent studies and data from Israel show that the mRNA vaccines are between ~80-90 percent effective at stopping spread. There is still some risk that they could catch it and pass it to you. It's a much smaller risk, but it's not zero risk. That becomes a risk tolerance issue that your family will have to make a decision about.
  4. That's fine, and that's an argument that I think is reasonable. I'm not even saying schools should be closed necessarily. But it's been obvious the whole time that the argument that thousands of teenagers in a building with shared air isn't going to spread some Covid around has been very obviously stupid. If you want to approach the argument from a "the risk is worth the benefit" stance, that's an argument you can make and defend. But it's always been obviously disingenuous when people try to say that schools aren't a vector.
  5. I wonder if anyone from the constantly shrieking about schools being closed crowd will address the data I posted that indicates school does create virus spread or if they'll ignore it for a few days and then resume shrieking.
  6. I dont really either except in scenarios where I'd be being inconsiderate to not wear one. A fairly crowded farmer's market is the only recent example that comes to mind, where just about everyone was masked.

    Cuomo

Man who voted for the most racially divisive president in a century is very concerned about racism.
  8. I'm going to be planting some citrus trees in planters made of bourbon barrels chopped in half this spring. I decided I'm going to put them on casters so I can roll them inside for hard freezes in the future.
  9. This is why making blanket statements based off of your feelings and not science like "schools don't spread Covid!" is risky. https://www.americanscientist.org/blog/macroscope/does-in-person-schooling-contribute-to-covid-19-spread These findings would support normal school once our community spread numbers are low for good. But as most people who do the majority of breathing through our noses already knew, "Covid doesn't spread in schools!" has always been a ridiculous assertion.

    Cuomo

Imagine being a Trump voter and actually thinking anyone is going to take your thoughts on sexual impropriety by elected officials seriously.
  11. This is fine and a reasonable strategy. You and I have discussed messaging in the past and we generally agree that Democrats are terrible at owning and shaping the narrative. But your scenario IS fan fiction. You dont know what maneuvering is taking place or what kind of complications stand in the way. For all you know he already threatened Manchin with that and got told no. If so, your plan is an exercise in puffery and won't do anything except drive a wedge between Manchin and Biden. It's been one month. In a global pandemic. Let the machine work and let's see what comes out. You and hugo are being the Monday morning quarterback guy at the bar, but for things that haven't even happened.
  12. Yes. But so far the only ideas I've seen are to primary Manchin which is idiotic and a bunch of nebulous "put pressure on them!" which is just vague fan fiction.
  13. New Braunfels and Canyon lake have had surprisingly good usage. I only remember maybe 10 people I've seen without masks. Outdoors is a different ball game. Landa Park is exactly zero percent over many visits. I'm personally not bothered by that though. You're not going to get Covid from the playground.
  14. Can you explain to us what a random control sample is? That's above my pay grade so I'll need it broken down into small words.
  15. Biden and Manchin are dem... ohh I see what you did there.
  16. You're better when you post other people's content.

    Cuomo

"Both sides defend their shitty politicians!! It's not just us!!" *posts about shitty liberal politician and gets almost universal rebuke for Cuomo from liberals* "Ah well, nevertheless"
  19. Ah how I've missed "everyone but me is a Republican" b_t. This time with Hugo as the Robin to his Batman! Welcome back! The combination of "everyone loves super liberal policies if you force them to" from bt and "I'm mad about things that haven't even happened yet" from Hugo is quite the one two punch.
  20. Some of my prickly pears look like they made it. No rhyme or reason that I can figure out as to which ones melted into jello and which didn't.
  21. Our sagos are yellow too, but greening up a little bit on the bottom so I'm hopeful they'll make it. I lost a few really nice prickly pears though, which sucks.
  22. I'm pretty offended that Biden hasn't passed ten years worth of progressive policy in one month.
  23. I think its reasonable to wait until everyone who wants a vaccine has had the opportunity to get one. I don't see what the rush there is. I'm fine with blowing away distancing rules and opening restaurants and bars and gyms soon if not now. Having those things closed hurts quality of life. Wearing a mask doesn't. It's a piece of fabric on your face. A couple more months is no big deal.
