  1. Yeah, there should be piping coming in from an exterior spigot that was hard frozen. Was the first one to freeze, I've been worried about it the whole time. So it may be more than that cap, but hopefully not.
  2. Got a leak here. Ended up with a layer of water in my office. Luckily I was in there. Bout 95% sure it's related to the one outdoor spigot I couldn't keep unfrozen. The one I've been worried about the whole time. FML. Shop vacced up maybe 3 gallons and soaked 4 towels finishing it up. So not a ton of volume fortunately. Cut a hole in the drywall where I thought it would be, missed but can feel wet insulation. It's not too bad. Only thing I can see or feel is this. Doesn't connect to anything horizontally but it sure doesn't look right. Anyone recognize this, or just want to make copper dick jokes? If I can get out of this with a minor exterior wall leak that's fixable and I'll consider us lucky as hell. I can half ass the drywall repair because it's in my office closet that stays locked because it has ammo and bourbon.
  3. You got a link for that? Need to bookmark it for some stupid people I know.
  4. This seems unlikely to me. There's going to be a breaking point where people are going to just accept the risks involved and get back to normal. Some people have been there for months, some are getting there now, and most will get there once they have their vaccine. Nothing is going to stem that tide. Besides, while the vaccines aren't quite as effective on the new strains, they do tamp down the severity and deadliness of them. And the mRNA vaccines are going to be able to engineer boosters for the various strains rapidly. There is not going to be a "new normal". Things will be back close to 2019-ish by late summer and the toothpaste isn't going back in the tube.
  5. So what is the supply chain going to look like for the next week or so once we thaw out this weekend? Are things like groceries, PVC pipe, etc. just going to be turbofucked for a few weeks until things catch back up?
  6. Most of us are too smart for government work.
  7. Not that I know of. Maybe just lucky so far. Who knows.
  8. Is it safe to assume at this point that if you haven't lost power at all yet, that you're on a grid that is tied to something considered critical? I can't make any sense of it, and I can't figure out for the life of me what would be near me that would qualify.
  9. Yeah, but you gotta be careful with that stuff. My neighborhood has a lot of successful blue collar types, so there are definitely a good amount of whole home generators here. For all we know the family with the house that looks like a casino has 2,000 gallons of buried propane tanks running a huge generator. The Facebook posts about heating pools, yeah, that would piss me off too. Read the room, guy.
  10. On my neighborhood Facebook the folks without power are now shaming the folks with power. Posting pictures of one house that's lit up like a Christmas tree, and some other lady griping about people's landscape lighting (which in a majority of cases are solar). We're like 12 hours from going full Lord of the Flies here.
  11. At least since we're not in Louisiana he wouldn't actually win.
  12. Septic alarm went off because it wasn't draining due to frozen sprinkler heads. Managed to get them all going with boiling water. Tank is back to normal levels after it cleared itself. On the bright side the first 30 seconds of the spray was a half frozen slurry. So I can cross "witnessing shit snow" off of my bucket list.
  13. I guess we're going to find out pretty quickly whether the bottleneck is supply or distribution now. In theory, assuming we lose all of this week, we should have both this week and next week's allocations available whenever it thaws out. So hopefully we'll just catch up quickly.
  14. I'm not sure where he got those numbers either. Wind running at 4,000 MW out of 6,000 is 23% of a 30,000+ MW shortage?
  15. My Vanguard brokerage account that's nothing but VOO and VTI is basically like the red-headed child that the parents neglect because the other kids are way better. Slow incremental reliable gains? Lame. Just thinking about logging in to that account bores me. Gimme that 30% in a day pink sheet good shit.
  16. This is what I do. Don't have roth but my fuckaround account sits inside my SEP IRA, so there are no tax implications for anything. Everything just happens within the bubble. Can't really withdraw any gainz because of the penalty, but that's probably a good thing.
  17. This motherfucker AMYZF is going to subtract years from my retirement plan at this rate. My entire surly ETF is going apeshit this morning. XMET, FPVD, ALPP, AMYZF, PFMS, UUUU, AJAX all up.
  18. The turbine stuff. IIRC it was twofold. First that wind is actually outperforming the supply projections that ERCOT has for this time of year, and second that it's only a small portion of overall energy. Solar has a small shortfall, but the big under-delivery is NG+Nuclear+whatever else is left (Coal?).
  19. Pretty sure this facebook science was debunked hundreds of posts ago.
  20. Man. I hope that my workplace never instills a culture of mediocrity acceptance like yours clearly has. Most of the time we don't endanger the lives and health of our customers! Participation trophies all around for a job well done.
  21. Remember when this thread was just Trey talking about living in Siberia and us occasionally bitching about 40 degree temps? I member.
